  1. It seems like there are a lot of techie type people on this forum. I was wondering how many photos should an iphone 4 be able to store without a data plan/icloud?
  2. Fishing wasn't high on the priority list this weekend but when my son asked if we could go, the list was modified. For the first time in 3 trips I had the first hook-up, and the second, casting blue/silver cyclops. Both were the littlest of hammer handles. Ryan had the next one casting a perch minnow bait but again lost it at the side of the boat. Need to work on the bassmasters hook-set. We then trolled for a bit and my brother finally got into the action and Ryan had to get right in there and supervise. The second trolled fish was his as well and I was wondering if the bite had switched from the shallower running husky jerks to the deeper diving taildancer that he was running. Just as I was looking for my box of crankbaits Ryan gets a hit on his husky jerk. Still working on his hold on the toothy ones. The husky jerks still produced most of the fish today but the bigger ones did come on the taildancers. Near the end of the day I was on the outside as we trolled a steep edge so I put on a deep diving dancer. Shortly afterwards I marked a fish 25ft down and right on cue as my bait swam through I had a solid hit. I was hoping it was the mother of all eyes but the fight said otherwise and I had a nice pike to finish the day. The pike also finished my taildancer unfortunately. Again Ryan was happy to be bringing home fish but his little sister likes eating it even more than he does.
  3. A good day fishing but a frustrating one as well. Lots of action but a few musky follows that ended in no hook-ups and a group of gar that we couldn't get to bite left more questions and a lot of what ifs. First fish of the day was a smallmouth out of 12 fow on a double 10. Since we've established that the suspending husky jerk works we tried just about everything else in the box. White x-rap Perch crankbait Live target herring
  4. Still found some small ones. This one was on a walleye jigging rod so there was a good fight. Got this bigger one trolling a minnow bait. No eyes again.
  5. I have been out after work in not so ideal times for steelhead on Lake Ontario tribs, but that is when I could get out. As it turns out, it didn't matter, as the fishing was mostly great. I didn't fish opening weekend, or any weekend day for that matter. I made short 3hr trips locally after work. Italo joined me for most of the trips and we had a blast! Apart from the good steelhead fishing, the scenery and spring coming to life is a big part of why I like this type of fishing so much. I really enjoy the beauty that nature offers, and especially relish it so close to home. Although I enjoy the nature and always have, I don't often post photos of what I hold dear to me. This year I was inspired to take photos of not only the typical grab and grin photos, but nature and what makes tributary fishing special for me. When I was younger, I spent most of my time fishing crowds shoulder to shoulder for numbers of steelhead disregarding the amazing nature around me. For the past 20 years or so, I have come to enjoy fishing a bit less pressured waters with fewer fish and fewer anglers and take in the entire experience. I enjoy this far more than trying to worry about racing guys to the next good hole like when I was younger. I just take my time and fish while enjoying the beauty around me. We started the season in high stained water, and over the 2 weeks the water slowly dropped while the water visibility increased. The last two trips were low gin clear water and we had the toughest steelheading as a result. We still managed a bunch of steelhead each and had a blast taking unique underwater photos. Bigger brighter roe bags drifted under floats did the damage in the higher water, and when the water cleared I downsized to 4lb fluorocarbon leaders, size 10 Gammy octopus hooks with a stealthier split shot and smaller float approach. The micro roe bags were tied in peach mesh for the highest success in tougher conditions. Seelhead are still dropping back, and with the forecasted rain this week, they will migrate back to the lake quickly. I may make one more short trip this week, then switch gears to something else for the long weekend. Enjoy some of the photos that we took over the last couple weeks. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as we did taking them! Good fishing! Aaron
  6. I got out a few times this year and after a few bird less days I hit one on each of my last two outings. A patch of tamaracks starting to turn. The photo doesn't do it justice of course.
  7. Trout season ends soon and today was a great day….. to get the kids off for school/daycare and then go…... to work. I did have a little bit of time before I picked up the kids, so I hit the stream just down from our house. No monsters. No interesting tales, or tails for that matter, but a nice couple of hours splashing in some riffles. May get out for some grouse and trout this Friday. Looks fishy Caught another brownie same size as the photo and maybe 4 chub all on flatfishes.
  8. Well the plan was to try Couchinching today in the hopes that some spots might produce some fish that would keep the adults happy while also holding some panfish that would keep Ryan interested. Small issue luanching. The Orillia triathlon was on so the area was much busier then normal but the launh itself was fine and we were quickly on our way. First spot produced a nice fish to start. crankbait bass And as hoped, lots of fish for Ryan. We didn't take too many pan fish photos. The rest of the bass we did find were small but ounce we had them hooked Ryan was on the reel. Ryan is getting better handling fish but they sometimes still end up on the bottom of the boat before they get back in the water. And with a predictable conclusion on the ride home.
