  1. Hey everyone, Just wondering when the Perchin' starts to pick up on Simcoe?
  2. Hello... I'm going to Buffalo on business and I was wondering if there are any good Outdoor stores in the area near the Walden Galleria mall, Rainbow bridge etc?
  3. Is there any room for a "Newbie"??? I want to join in on the fun, but I don't have a boat! I would be willing to pay for gas or something. What other arrangements do I need to make? I've never done this before. Help!
  4. Thanks Misfish! I appreciate it. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
  5. Hello everyone, Does anyone have some suggestions for general areas in the Cook's bay/Gilford area of Simcoe for some Pike/Bass? All expertise is greatly appreciated!!
  6. A big ol' white spinnerbait will do the trick (almost) every time. Although during a cold front, you should slow down your retrieve. A suspending firetiger jerkbait will work in murky waters with cold temps. Good luck!
  7. Thanks guys. I didn't think to use the search function. Anyway, I did a search on this topic and found tons of info. I appreciate your help!
  8. Hi everyone, I have been contemplating using fluoro leaders instead of titanium/steel leaders for some Pike fishing. Can I use this set up for Pickeral fishing too? Or should I tie directly to my lure when fishing for Pickeral? I'm kind of looking for an all around set-up that I don't have to change too often. Pike and Pickeral are the two species I fish for the most. I'm currently using 20# Power Pro for line. There are a couple of reasons why I have not used fluoro leaders yet including my uncertainty for Pickeral. Here they are: 1. I'm not sure what the right # test/brand to use. 2. I don't know how to tie them directly to my line - Or do I use a snap swivel? 3. Do the Fluoro leaders make a difference? I have seen the pre-packaged ones @ BPS. They are 50#+ test with big swivels and snaps that look like they would get caught on weeds quite often, so I decided not to purchase one. Has anyone else seen/used these? All expertise is greatly appreciated as always.
  9. Please let me clarify.....I'm not looking for any "honey holes". Just general areas. I don't live around the Orillia area, so I have no idea where to go?? Any help is greatly appreciated
  10. Hello everyone, Just wondering if anyone can suggest some shore spots for the Orillia Perch festival? Unfortunately my bro-in-law's boat will not be available, but I would still like to catch some supper for the table. Thanks in advance!
  11. Hooksetr, Thanks for the info! I appreciate it. Where are the "narrows"????
  12. I believe it starts on April 22nd.
  13. Okay, so I can't wait until the first weekend in May to get out on the water. So I have decided to particpate in the Orillia Perch festival. It should be a lot of fun!! Can anyone suggest a few general areas to fish from a boat that will provide me with a nice perch dinner???
  14. Thank you for your help guys!
  15. Any indicators for hard baits such as a Taildancer, husky jerk, shad rap etc?
  16. Another question...........Does anyone know the characteristics of a lure that determine the amount/type of wobble a lure will have? I'm thinking this will help in the decision process when buying some lures for a specific species of fish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Walleyes tend to like a lure that has a tighter wobble than Pike. Pike tend to like a lure that have a more emphasized wobble etc. Any idea how I could determine this without buying the lure and testing it myself? Or is the amount/type of wobble even that important??? Once again, all insight and expertise is greatly appreicated!!
  17. Hello everyone, Does anyone know some guidelines on how much weight to add to your lure to get it deeper? I want to try this technique, but I have no idea what will work. If I add a 1/4 oz split shot to my line and I'm fishing a Husky jerk, any idea how deep the lure will run while casting? I realize there are some variables involved.....type of lure, lure weight, size, etc. But I'm hoping ther might be a "basic rule of thumb" for this topic. Any help is greatly appreciated!
  18. Hey everyone, I'm getting very anxious waiting for the first weekend in May. So I'm thinking about heading to BPS and Lebaron to pick up some new lures for my Pike adventures. I have the basics covered.......Red/white Williams wobbler, Half gold/half silver hammered williams wobbler, Yellow five of diamonds, White spinnerbait, perch x-rap etc. I'm sure most of you can relate to my feeling that I can always use more lures! SO my question is.........Can you suggest a few other lures/colours that are effective for Pike? Thanks in advance!
  19. Tomfoolery, What was the weight of the ones you were using?
  20. I saw Pete Maina use it on his show on Red Lake in Minnesota. They were haulin in some beauties and it looked like a lot of fun!
  21. Has anyone had success using this type of set-up? I went to BPS the other day to check out their sales and I found the plastic Shad bodies, great. I looked at their jig selection and I couldn't find a swimming jig to match? They were too small. I went to my local shop and they don't carry them either, but they would special order it for me. Does anyone know who might carry this size (1 oz - 1 1/2 oz)?
  22. Can you be more specific? What's the weight of the sinker? Size/type of hook? Do you have any pics of this set-up? Thanks!
  23. Hello everyone, Just wondering if you can help me out with a panfish drop shot rig? I tried to search the forums for some info and I didn't really find any. Does anyone know how to set it up? What do I need? What works best for you? Thanks in advance!
  24. Wow! A lot of great feedback! Thanks everyone.
