  1. Baptiste has both pike and muskie. I haven't fished Bird Lake (just outside of Birds Creek) for about 10 or 12 years; but it had plenty of pike when I did fish it.

There is an MNR office in Bancroft, they should be able to provide a list of stocked lakes, there are many lakes in the area that are stocked with trout.

I don't believe that walleye are very plentiful in the area. Although both Baptiste and Elephant do have some. There are also plenty of bass lakes if you are interested.

  2. ...What Raf said...

Don't you remember that story of the lady who faked being ill in downtown T.O. to panhandle, and then she would drive away in her BMW?

    Tony

Thats not true at all! . . . she had a chauffer

I do agree that a by-law banning pan handling altogether would a positive step. Those that truly need help can make use of the shelter system where they can be provided with aid that will help them get back on their feet instead of just surviving day to day.

  3. I have seen Largemouth and sunfish caught out of Toogood pond. I believe that there are carp in there as well. In understand that the Milne Resvoir is also contains carp and largemouth, I haven't fished it myself. Most of Markham's trout are migratory and are now back in Lake Ontario.

  4. LOOK at the picture.. If hog is supposed to be 9 feet long- the kid must be 2'6" tall---just another tall tail. Why this is probally the same one Daniel Boone was a chasin wen he wuz a only 3. I got a bridge for sale that crosses Lake Erie. You can makes a lotsa monies a chargin tolls on this beauty... ONLY $19.95 TODAY---Last 1 I got for sale at thisin great price. :clapping::clapping::clapping:

I am a little perplexed by your statement about the kid being 2'6" tall. If you are trying the to estimate the size of the hog by comparing it to the size of the boy; then, the larger the boy the larger the hog and vice versa. A 9'4" hog would be 3.6 longer than a 2'6" person is tall. The same hogs length would be less than double the height of a five foot tall person (a more reasonable height for an 11 year old).

A hog that mad an 11 year appear to only be 2'6" by comparison would have to be much larger than 9'4"; not smaller as your post implies.

  5. I have the opposite situation on my boat. I have a bow mount with the battery in the back.

I replaced the connectors on the motor with a plug in connector from Cabela's designed for electric motors. I ran eight gauge wire outdoor from the battery to a female plug (also from Cabela's) mounted at the bow of the boat. I simply plug the motor in and go. I aslo replaced the gator clips on my battery charger with the same plug as I put on the motor. Then I can unplug the motor and plug in the charger at the end of the day.

In my case I was fortunate that Alumacraft ran a some ABS plastic pipe from the bow to the stern of the boat. This made running the wire a lot cleaner.

The eight gauge wire that I used would be the minimum thickness to use. Six gauge would be better.

This set up has worked well for over ten years now.

  6. Had an argument the other night with a fellow about limits when fishing with kids.

Can a child keep a limit of fish as long as he or she can bring the fish in by themselves or does whatever they catch count towards the adults limit ?

I have read the regs and either missed it or there is no info on this matter?

I think they can have their own limit provided they are old enough to bring the fish in by themselves

    Am I wrong?

What you say is correct about children who are residents of Ontario.

However, in the case of non-residents; a child's catch does count towards the adults limit. It is this rule that causes some of the confusion about children and limits.

  7. In terms of bang for buck, I have been quite happy with the Hancooks on my Aerostar; and I didn't have to break the bank to buy them.

I am happier with them then I have been with the Goodyears and Bridgestone Duellers that I have purchased in the past.

  8. Hey CH,

Ya got the upper rouge that runs right through. The rainbow season should be in full swing in the upper stretches just below milne dam.If ya want some good access points I'll PM ya some spots.

    FHR

Just to be clear, the season for rainbow hasn't opened there yet. There should still be some there when it does. Toogood and the Milne pond have large mouth, carp, and pan fish. The Rouge gets runs of Rainbows and Browns along with Chinook.

  9. Did you charge the battery periodically throughout the winter? It's not good to leave the battery all winter without charging it once in a while.

You also mention storing it off the concrete floor in a heated garage. It is only a myth that storing the battery on concrete will harm them. Also, ther e is not need to store them in a heated garage. In fact, they will last longer when stored in a cold location.

  10. According to studies that I have read; fish do not have the part of the brain that is used to sense pain. According to those studies, fish do not feel pain.

Having said that, fish brains are different than human brains; it is possible that they use a different part there brains than humans use to sense pain. I believe that the fight that they put up when hooked proves that if they do feel pain at all; it is not nearly to the same degree as humans. How much of a fight would you put up if someine was trying to pull you in by a hook in your mouth.

As for the P3TA study with fish rubbing their lips against the side of the aquarium after being injected with bee venom, that only proves that they are aware that there is soming in their lips. It doesn't prove that it causes pain.

  11. The GW has been proven hands down without a doubt now...

Even the UN scientists are not as certain as you about the cause of global warming. I beleive the term they was was "Basically Certain", which translates to 90% certainty. Thus even the scientists who support the human cause of global warming have allowed for a 10% chance that they are wrong, or 10% of doubt that humans are the cause of global warming.

So, no, it has not been proven beyond a doubt. Debate is good, opposing view points should not be silenced. A majority opinion is not proof. It is important that all view points, not just the popular ones, are heard.

  12. I saw this posted on the rogers site today. It contains some interesting opinions on the global warming debate.

NEW ORLEANS - A top hurricane forecaster called

Al Gore "a gross alarmist" Friday for making an Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.

"He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about," Dr. William Gray said in an interview with The Associated Press at the National Hurricane Conference in New Orleans, where he delivered the closing speech.

A spokeswoman said Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C., to Nashville Friday; he did not immediately respond to Gray's comments.

Gray, an emeritus professor at the atmospheric science department at Colorado State University, has long railed against the theory that heat-trapping gases generated by human activity are causing the world to warm.

Over the past 24 years, Gray, 77, has become known as America's most reliable hurricane forecaster; recently, his mentee, Philip Klotzbach, has begun doing the bulk of the forecasting work.

Gray's statements came the same day the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change approved a report that concludes the world will face dire consequences to food and water supplies, along with increased flooding and other dramatic weather events, unless nations adapt to climate change.

Rather than global warming, Gray believes a recent uptick in strong hurricanes is part of a multi-decade trend of alternating busy and slow periods related to ocean circulation patterns. Contrary to mainstream thinking, Gray believes ocean temperatures are going to drop in the next five to 10 years.

Gore's documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," has helped fuel media attention on global warming.

Kerry Emanuel, an MIT professor who had feuded with Gray over global warming, said Gray has wrongly "dug (his) heels in" even though there is ample evidence that the world is getting hotter.

  13. Send your grievances to the Prime Minister's office in Ottawa. The province finished their end of it all long ago. The hold up is at the Federal level. But it is a better idea to wait till '08 at this point. Gives Harper and his crew time to actually read it.

You can't put all of the blame on at the Federal level. The liberals knew, or ought of have known that they would need federal approval and should have taken this into consideration when setting up a time frame for the implentation.

  14. hate to say it bud

but we are living in the world of Gov. downsizing..and I would think that getting into that field at this time will be more then just a little difficult ...check out he chances of getting a job in that field and let see what other guys here have to say about it

    but good luck

The upside is that with few hirings in recent years the MNR will be staffed with an aging workforce with generous pension benefits who are all going to retire at the same time. When this happens, there will be a suplus of jobs available. I am not sure that it will be soon enough for the current crop of students though.

  15. Be very carefull!

I bought the "cool white" bulbs because they seem more like natural light and a 9w of the cool white lights up the same space a 23 w of soft white will.

On the package it said not to dispose of in the garbage as it contained mercury and should be disposed of at a faciltity equipped to deal with mercury"

NICE. So much for "greener" bulbs.

I read an article on the internet about this recently. The CFL do contain small amounts of mercury. But coal contains mercury which is released into the atmosphere when it is burned. According to the article, the CFL's actually reduce the amount of mercury introduced into the environment by reducing the amount of coal required to generate electricity.

  16. Took the words right out of my mouth! and I get out twice a week in the summer! haha

    Good Fishin'

    UF

I am in the same boat. Why spend all that time tracking wind, pressure, solunar tables, etc. only to find out that the best time to go fishing is right in the middle of the meeting with our biggest client :wallbash:

Maybe when I am retired ...

  17. Pressure treated wood used to have arsenic in it and why it was highly frowned upon as dock material. It no longer has arsenic in it and is supposed to be fine now...or at least no worse, or better, than the people that repaint their spruce/fir docks every couple years with paint splashing / dripping in the water as they go.

My understanding is that pressure treated wood is corrosive to Aluminum. Even with carpet that there is a chance that as corner of the bunk could come in contact with the boat; especially as the carpet wears. Some thing to consider when replading the bunks.
