  1. Are you referring to the one north of Elephant & Baptiste?

If so I have fished it a little. I did catch a walleye there once but have generally not had much luck. In addition to walleye it should have SM & LM Bass, pike and muskie. It is a very scenic lake wiht great sandy ares for swimming... you may want to head south down the York River toward Elephant Lake to do your fishing.

  2. Its false, and has been around for over 10 years.

I don't remember the last time I read in the paper about a person getting shot while driving after he flashed somebody, do you???

Another clue is the police resorting to a chain email as opposed to a press release to inform people. That's a common giveaway to an urban myth.

  3. Does anyone know what was the legal outcome of the red-light cameras?

At some point it's been challenged in the higher Courts for the photos being accepted as evidence in Court. It was dealing with the fact that there is only circumstantial evidence that a certain person actually drove the car, since there was presented only a snapshot of the car/license plate.

The cameras are still around, though...

This is no different than a parking ticket. I don't see any difference between ticketing the owner of a car when they don't know who parked it and ticketing the owner for speeding or running a red light without knowing who was driving. It would be different if demerit points were involved.

  4. I'm on Rogers in Pickering, can anyone tell me what the channel is supposed to be.

I see a show called "Rome" on the History channel tomorrow at 9:00.

Looked up and down the channels but couldn't seem to find it.

Looks like a very interesting show though.

I am on Rogers in Scarborough at Port Union Rd. I get the History channel on 54, I would assume that it is the same number in Pickering.

It may also be available on another number in HD if you have a digital box.

  5. Wasn't too long ago, (1990 ish) Bell, was the only game in town.

    They were a telephone monopoly.

    Then they deregulated it.

People switched back and forth between different carriers for awhile, until they discovered there were no "real" savings to be had. Maybe short term, in the way of lower long-distance rates, but not in the long haul, as we see the cost of basic services has skyrocked. I remember back then it cost about $20.00/mth for basic phone. Today it's around $80.00! Sure I get a couple x-tra features, but they make up the money the lose on long-distance, but they take it all back and then some.

You should be getting quite a few extra features for $80 a month. I am with Bell and I am paying around $30 a month with all taxes included.

  6. Well at least they finally got finished,

I would argue that they are not actually finished. If they were finished, they wouldn't require revisions.

I expect that there will be further changes to the regs this year. I know that the limit for Rainbow on lake Ontario is under review. Appearently the MNR has stated that changing the regs after they are printed in not a problem <_<

  7. correct me if I am wrong, isnt Lund & Ranger both under the same "company umbrella"? Or at least they used to be? Genmar i believe was the name...

Used to be is the correct answer.

Genmar sold their Aluminum boat line to Brunswick Co. (owners of Mercury Marine). Lund, Crestliner, and Lowe/Sea Nymth were included in the sale. Princecraft was already owned by Brunswick.

  8. Richard Peddie and Larry Tannenbaum need to go first. No decent general manager will work for them. Turfing JFJ while they are still around is going to help the team.

The general manager should be allowed to decide who coaches the team; so it would make sense to keep Maurice around for now. The new GM can decide his fate later.

It would be nice to trade some of the players fro draft choices; unfortunately, the veterans all seem to have no trade clauses, bloated contracts that no other team will accept, or both. I think it will take a long time to rebuilding the team wants the team actually starts rebuilding. Who knows if and when they will even start.

  9. The only time that it's not good is when you never use it. I had my entire "light engine" replaced just over a year after my factory warranty was up. Basically, the "light engine" was the complete inside of my tv. I bought new, unproven technology when I bought my $2000.00 DLP. So I was comfortable buying the psp. And it paid off.

To say "Never, ever buy PSP" is just wrong. It's an insurance policy. You don't buy house insurance hoping that your house burns down and you can cash in. There's 2 ways at looking at it.

I figure that I have saved several thousand dollars by not buying extended warranties on anything that I buy. I have yet to have to replace or have anything repaired during the period that would have been covered by an extended warranty. Even if I do eventually have to replace one or two items that would have been covered by an extended warranty, I will still be ahead of the game by not having paid for extended warranties on anything that I buy.

The only time that an extended warranty would have come in handy is for my oven. It still works except for the self cleaning feature. I have a wife so not having the self cleaning feature really isn't that important. Certainly not worth the cost of the warranty.

I would say that if you never buy extended warranties will almost certainly come out ahead of the person who does buy them; even if that other person does ending up using them on a couple of purchases. This is especially true of high tech items; you will probably be able to buy something better for less money in the 2-4 year period that the extended warranty would cover.

  10. I had a question this morning about Canada Pension and had to phone them for the answer and was dreading the thought of being bounced from one person to another as is the norm when calling the Federal Government. :wallbash:

I called a phone number on the website, pushed a couple buttons as I was prompted to do untill I got to the appropriate place, and then the phone rang ONE time and was answered by a very friendly person, who gave me an immediate answer to my question, wished me a good day and hung up.

Total time from me dialing the number till I got my answer was ONE MINUTE :thumbsup_anim:

Never heard of before when dealing with a Government agency !!

Some days just start out GOOD :thumbsup_anim::clapping::thumbsup_anim:

Does this mean that the Leafs are going to win the cup?

  11. Its gotta be a small problem with the button & when its pressed down, probably not allways making proper contact underneath? Anyone ever take a sonar apart themselves? What do you suggest I do?

I am not sure if they still build Eagles they way they used to. If they do, then there is no way that you will get it apart without resorting to a sledge hammer... good luck getting back together after that.

It may be different now; but in the past they had a fixed fee to replace your unit as the units were not serviceable (they couldn't get them apart either). Once they ran out of inventory for your unit then you were SOL as far as service was concerned. That happened to me with my Eagle Magna II.

If they have changed the way they are made, and you can get it apart; then fixing it yourself is probably your best option. If not, then send it back for replacement right away; especially if your model is no longer in production. Once they are out of stock then you are out of luck.

  12. OK the Canadian dollar is up on par with the US dollar. Up 40% or so from only a short time ago.

The world crude oil price is in US dollars per barrel. So can anyone here explain why we're still paying the same here in Canada for gasoline and stuff which comes from crude oil? I would think the price per litre here in Canada should drop to like.... $.65 or at least $.75 per litre.

The price of a barrel of oil has increased from about $65 to about $95. The price of a barrel of oil in Canadian dollars has not dropped; thus, no drop in oil prices.

In fact, it is the increase in the price of oil that is driving out dollar up. Canada is an exporter so as the price of oil increases so does our dollar.

  13. Nope...it's dumb.. but it's fact. We have no border "customs" between provinces and if it's shipped out of province the vendor does not have to charge provincial taxes..unless it's an HST province... and why they are pushing to get that HST across the board. Shop in Quebec or Alberta. We/vendors in Ontario can ship to any province without charging PST.

Actually, if you have a business presence in Ontario (three stores would qualify as a presence) then you are required to charge PST on online orders shipped into Ontario from other provinces. This rule applies to most provinces.

I am not sure if LeBaron's has discovered a loophole or just hasn't been caught. Regardless, if you are not charged PST then you would be required to self assess and remit them yourself... I am sure that you will do the right thing :whistling:

  14. Once you're 18 don't get caught fishing without your license on you or very close nearby in your tackle box. The CO's will not accept "It's at home" and will charge you for sure.

Ironically the fine for leaving your license at home is higher than the fine for not having a license at all. Isn't the government wonderful?

  15. Money for the MNR should not be a problem for the MNR if Life time Fishing license were avalable.

    They would make more.

Let's throw a price at it of $499 for a life time fishing license.

If they invest a a good interest rate. 10 % . And we apply the rule of 72 , it should double every 7 years.

    500

    1000 7yr

    2000 14 yr

    4000 21 yr.

    8000 28 yr

    $ 27.58 * 28yr = $ 772

They make more , if they are smart...

And manage it properly of cource...

If you know where you can get a stable 10% return on investment, please, please, do tell. I think 5% would be more realistic.

Also, if they use the interest to fund the MNR the principle will never increase. If they invested $500 now. They will get $25 in the fist year; and in year 28 they will still only get $25. If we assume 3% inflation, then in year 28 an annual license will cost over $60 a year; if they increase them by 5% a year it would be over $100 in year 28.

Plus, I am sure they would find some way to make us more more in the future even if we did all have life time licenses.

  16. The big problem is that if everyone did it, the government of the day would fritter away the money leaving nothing for the future. I don't care who is in power, they will do it.

... and to get around that problem they would come up with additional licences. :(

Your life time license would allow you to go fishing; but you would need a separate license to keep fish, another license to fish lakes that are stocked; I'd better stop before they get any ideas.

I wouldn't want to trust them on a life license either.

  17. Good morning all, well it's getting to be that chilly time of the year, and I'm looking to heat my garage. I leave it open for the dogs so they have full access from the house to the yard while I'm at work, that means the house is a little chilly when I get home <_< . Last year I put up old comforters over the doors to try to stave off some of the cold air, this year I'm thinking I might just heat the thing...a little anyway. I'd prefer to stay away from electric heat, was thinking propane or something along those lines. The trick is finding one I can leave on while I'm not here. Any thoughts? Maybe one of the ones used by icefishers????

    Thanks for your help

    Maureen

Are you saying that would be heating the garage and leaving the doors open for the dogs at the same time? That would be expensive.
