  1. I couldn't see living in ear falls but I could easily spend the rest of my life in Dryden. That city was heaven.

Id prefer dryden too, but i wouldnt call it heaven lol.

Ear falls is too small, beautiful but very gossipy like any small town.

But i havent been back since the mill shut down.

Back when i lived there it was small but everyone had money and great jobs, which is good but that meant lotsa drugs and booze.

Id guess most either moved to red lake or work in red lake. Which is a complete gong show of a town

If you have a chance at a good job in ear falls, call tom at sleepy dog cabins and see if he can hook you up with a place. Its unreal nice and the fishing/scenery is great. And tom is awesome

  2. M2B2

If you mean Village Corner, the entire place burnt up 5 yrs ago & was never rebuilt.

    Yes their food was excellent.

    Awe no way. Thats horrible.

I had a house in fort frances and one in ear falls.

Everytime i travelled through i stopped there. I tried everything on the menu but what i remember most was their chilli, with fresh bread, chips, topped with sour cream. A meal fit for a king and it was like 7 bucks.

Darn that sucks. Always wanted to go back one day

  3. I live in the Vermilion Bay area,Ear Falls is about 1 hr north on Hwy 105.

    Small town,GREAT fishing & hunting.

You will be about 4 1/2 hrs from Winnipeg,so if you need a city fix you can get away for a weekend of city life,Dryden is about 1 1/2 hours,Kenora 2 hrs

I wouldn't consider living anywhere but this area.

Is that restaurant still open at the junction?

They have some good eats, i miss that place

  4.

I hear that. I can't stand the chicken these days at box stores. It barely tastes like chicken. For those that care, there are some really good documentaries out there on this stuff. I know netflix has a few insightful ones.

Great thread though! Some tasty looking dishes. I'm a fan of that cowboy cut rib steak a few posts back!

Our kids watch those documentaries and immediately were in huge favour of real food.

Not that we fed them that junk but grandpas and such did lol.

No more asking for fast foods thats for sure.

And the big box store chicken tasted like water and its tougher then heck lol

A good chicken breast cuts like a hot knife through butter and has a nice flavour. Still prefer partridge though lol

  5. That pasta looks pretty darn good

Years ago my brother who lives just outside Bobcaygeon used to raise is own chickens that were grain fed, and like Rick and Big Cliff mentioned what a difference in flavour. It was like the difference between a store bought plastic like tomato as opposed to eating one fresh from the garden lol

    I like that comparison!

Mmmm fresh tomatoes, one of my favorites. Fresh out the garden with a lil salt and pepper?

  6. 1) Little Cleo

She was a hootchie-kootchie girl who for 43 years had her dancer's image stamped on the back of a fishing lure. A New York City songwriter named Charlie Clark saw Little Cleo perform during the 1930s; when he developed this popular spoon with its wiggling, dancing action in 1953, she became its namesake. In 1996 a female employee of a major retailer took offense at the dancer's image on the lure, and for the sake of newfound political correctness, the image was removed by Acme Tackle of Rhode Island, the current manufacturer. Little Cleo spoons are thick in proportion to their surface area, so they fish relatively deep. This makes them a favorite trout spoon, but in sizes ranging from 1/16 to 11/4 ounce, they're suitable for everything from panfish to steelhead and stripers.
