  1. I have been using Quantum baitcasting and spinning reels for a number of years. I have used them for salmon, musky and bass fishing, they have never let me down.

They were also the last American reel maker to turn production over to Asian manufacturers.

When buying a Baitcasting reel, the final decision is yours and yours alone. Most of all it must feel comfortable in your hand, remember you will be casting with it for hours at a time. The "Code" reel you are looking at appears to be their mid range reel, and reading the specs and features appears to be a good value for the $$.

Rocky's Reel repair, Orillia Ontario is an authorized waranty and parts source for Quantum reels.

  2. Moe, as in the past I will be there manning a spatula/flipper. I agree with Big Cliff, burgers, sausages and hot dogs should be the main fare.

This is also the weekend of the Innisifl Winterfest, and a free family fishing weekend. Shoulf help with turnout.

Let me know what else will be needed.

  3. My condolences to his family, it is such a tragic loss. What I read and heard on the news was that his body was found ON the ICE, a short distance from land. It would appear that the man may have suffered a heart attach, and being in foggy conditions was disoriented. What a sad and tragic way to end life.

  4. I do agree with you GB. The ice is always changing and really is never safe. I have seen 30" of ice and suddenly a new pressure crack form. In these mild temps you can lose ice and if this was late February or March then the temps would have a greater effect. This is due to the amount of daylight hours. Currently we have about 8 hours of daylight and if the high for the day was say 7 degrees and the low was -2 then the day would look something like this. -2 befor daylight then rising to 0 the first two hours then rising to 4 the next two hours then rising to 7 the next two hours and then droping to 0 the next two hours when it turns dark again, and then -2 for the next 16 hours. At this time of the year if you get rain during the day then at night that would turn to ice. Here is the weekend according to Accuweather for Barrie.

Saturday a high of +1 for a 7 hour period

Sunday a high of +5 for a 1 hour period and above zero for a 12 hour period

For me I will fish for Perch Whitefish and Lakers on Saturday where I know the ice is solid.

On Sunday I will fish for Perch and then I won't go on the laker and whitefish grounds until the next cold front after Friday.

Well stated, puts things into a different perspective, thank you for your clarification

  5. Great read Chris, thank you to you and Rick for making this possible.

I was saddened to read the passing of Grant Ferris. He will be truly missed. His generous sharing of fishing information in the Bruce County and Saugeen watershed was quite useful. I had met Grant briefly several years ago while fishing the 'geen.

A truly great sportsman will be greatly missed.

  6. My temp is -20oC, nice and dry cold. Now it is getting cold!!! :blahblah1: However, the winds last night have created quite the drifts in areas off the main road. Just got back a few minutes ago from taking the Mrs to work. The road I use was snow covered and heavy drifts on the north side that I was required to use 4WD

Be safe out there and let the snow plows do their job.

  7. To everyone here at ONFC, I wish you and your families a happy and prosperous new year. I also received this in an e-mail message and thought I would share it with the board

    A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but

    shorter tempers, wider Freeways,

but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but

enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences,

but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but

less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less

    wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little,

drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read

too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too

much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to

life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but

have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We conquered

outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better

    things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom,

but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but

accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more

computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but

    we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small

character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days

of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These

are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night

stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to

quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window

and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter

to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or

    to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going

    to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because

that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the

only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved

ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when

it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will

    not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious

    thoughts in your mind.

    AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments

    that take our breath away.

If you don't send this to at least 8 people....Who cares?

    George Carlin
