Rob,
My deepest Sympathies to you and your family. Words fail me now, I know the hurt you and your family are feeling. The hardest is to bury your child, it is not supposed to happen that way. Earlier words have said what I was thinking.

New Angler.
Here is a chart for wind speeds. Called the Beaufort Wind Scale. This gives you the speed, in Knots and Kms, also a desrciption of what the seas would look like.

Lew, Garmin all the way. I have the Nuvi 250 widescreen, and it does everything you want and more.
Garmin and Rockwell developed the GPS system for the US military first, then Garmin was instrumental in selling the first primitive handheld units. (still have and use mine)
For your own peace of mind giet one for your wife and daughter.

Yeah, JR -- that is a new one to me as well, and now my favourite -- it's nice to have the exact location pinned down But here's a question: Do these times account for daylight savings time, or not?
johnnyb, I just received a reply to my e=mail to the webmaster: here it is:
Greetings John,
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, the tables do take into account Daylight Savings times if the selected
area observes it and my data is correct.
Best regards,
Webmaster

Thanks for the link JR. I hadn't seen that one. It looks good.
Roy, do you think it is possible, for the benefit of all OFC members could it be arrange to have a permanent link to this site established here?

http://www.solunarforecast.com/solunarcalendar.aspx
Try this web site,
I have been fooling around with this site, putting in my home postal code, then a postal code for the area I will be fishing on Wednesday, works very well, gives you moon and sun rises and moon and sun sets. Major feeding and Minor feeding, plus phase of moon. The difference between the two postal codes was 3 minutes for each phase. Pretty impressive and the site is FREE!!

I agree with Raf, Buy the best you can afford. It only hurts once.
It is a matter of personal comfort in the long run.
I have been using Ambassadeur 5500's, 6500's and 7000's C3 models for over 40 years, and still use them today. These reels have caught their share of bass, pike, musky and salomonids over the years.
You have been given very good advice, but take your time to choose what you want. Go into a shop, ask to have the reel put on the rod you will be using, it it is comfortable in your hand then you are set. But don't rush, just because someone on the net says reel X is great, it may not suit you. It is your money and investment take your time.

Ameteurs and pros alike use the Curado. There's great reason for that.
The pros are sponsored by the reel makers, and strictly from a marketing stand point this draws in the customers.

If roads aren't a mess ( Towing with FWD van WITH snow tires) and someone promises to pull me out of the launch count me in .

Dave, I'd be interested in sharing the boat with you. I can tow your boat with my pick up.

Why don't you stop by JB's on Ronson Dr. in Etobicoke (Kipling and the 401 area) Store carries several brands in various $$$ ranges.
You can then compare them at you leisure, what works for one person, may not work for you.
Smart shopping will give you two rods, one for casting and one for trolling.
BPS carries a 'catfish' rod 9' great trolling rod, under (90$) This is a graphite/glass compound with a fast tip and a stout heavy butt section.(you will find it in thesalmon or musky rod section of the store)
For trolling, I would definitely up size the reel. I like the Okuma convector line counter series, two of my buddies use Shimano Tekota line counters.
Remember that for trolling musky size baits, you will need at the least 100# test braid, and a minimum of 80# fluoro leaders. Large musky baits are very hard on your tackle.
What it comes down to is what you are comfortable with and $$$s and how strong you interest in musky hunting ( you will become addicted)
good luck

I am planning on upgrading my 2mp Kodak point and shoot camera I've been using since 2004. It has been bounced around the boat, and is starting to cause grief.
AT the present, I can only find cameras 8 mps and up to 12 mps in the point & shoot category. Most of my photos are for the net, e-mails to families and friends and print 4 X 6 prints
What is the difference in the number of pixels, and to what benefit to the higher numbers. Brand names that you have had good results or are comfortable using, would be great to narrow my research.
Thanks

Might get this, my other tackle box is a little heavy and this would be a lot easier to carry around.
It is the Plano Softsided Tackle Bag, Large $39.99 at Canadian Tire
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_...fromSearch=true
Go for it. I've been using Plano soft sides for a number of years now. I also continue to buy their 3700 series of boxes.
Just take what you think you will need for the day.

Roger, as always you go above and beyond. As I read the story and viewed the images, I felt my eyes starting to fog over (damn allergies )
What a wonderful experience for Jacob. I know that BPS likes to stay below the radar, and this renews my faith in big business .
Thank you for sharing

Glad you made it back. I'm told you had a great holiday in the Dryden, Lac Seul area.
Have a safe trip on Geo. Bay, but please check with Enviroment Canada's webpage to give you Geo Bay weather and WIND conditions.
Maybe we can get out for a day during the next few weeks.

Boat Seats

I replaced the standard seats on my legend with this model. I also have two of the models you are preparing to buy, on my rear casting and front casting platforms.
Both are very comfortable seats.
