  1. Thanks guys. I'll be comparing the fuel economies in the small 8cyls over the 6s to see if it is really worth it. I like this Ford, but I wouldn't buy one. Again the power and economy are night and day poorer than the chevy was. I used to go a week and a half on one tank, now its virtually 1 week bang on. And we are comparing apples to apples here. This truck has to be a combination of work and play so real operating costs need to be weighed out carefully. Does anyone other than Dodge offer variable valve timing?
  2. Thanks folks. The Tacoma is a sweet truck, but I'm worried the 5' box (No long box available) will be too short to be effective. I hadn't considered full sized trucks that had the variable valves (like the Hemi Dodge)...I'll look into that one. I'm driving a newer F-150 work truck now and just got out of a full sized Silverado. The fuel consumption in the ford is 30% worse...its terrible!! Both base model trucks but the power and economy with the chevy was night and day. Makes me wonder if these fuel ratings are nonsense to begin with...
  3. Hey everyone, I'm looking for advice from experienced 4x4 owners here. I'm looking at a mid sized truck with the capacity to haul/tow on occasion. 8 cylinders are out of the question as this truck will be seeing a ton of highway miles. so far the only definates I'm looking to meet are; -crew cab, -towing capacity - 4000-5000lbs -true 4x4 with hi-low range -6' box (Hauling a sled, ATV, Building supplies etc...5' box is too short(?) -Fuel effieciency during normal everyday driving So far the only thing that looks close is the Nissan Frontier. I know there is the GMC /Chev Canyon/Colorado but the Nissan is sitting better with me with the 1' longer box and higher quality rating. I haven't looked at Toyota yet and I'm not sure I want to get into a Durango. Is there anything I'm missing? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, C2F
  4. I'm a firm believer of "what goes around comes around", "you get what you give" and the "pay it forward" ideology. Glad to hear it all smoothed out in the end and that the damage was minimal.
  5. Welcome to Guelph, Ray at H.L & S is a great guy with a really nice shop.
  6. My wife never leaves home without it. I bought it for the farm & coy-dogs that run around here.
  7. Update: Opp & MNR tried unsuccessfully to trap it and ended up making the decision to destroy it. It was reportedly sighted very close to Salem Public school so I'm guessing this was the reason they made the call. Funny how everyone around hear just bugs out when there's a sighting. I do agree with the schools keeping the kids indoors during the investigation though. This was once Black bear territory as well as the Eastern Mountain Lion or Puma, which I understand is on a bit of a comeback.
  8. Sure you pay more up front but in the end you get way more for your money IMO. (This of course is if you drive them forever...not a 3 year lease) I may never buy another US make again. Time for our automakers to wake up.
  9. What a shame people have to be that way. Perhaps they are lucky you were so cool headed. If a guy tried to punch me though an open window, I would likely lose it right there...suicide or not.
  10. no problem, good luck. Also, if I'm guessing you don't have wheels, you can take the bus across town and walk to Guelph lake from there. It might be sort of cheating, but you can access the lake several places without paying at the main gate...PM me if you want directions.
  11. Try the ponds on York road east of Victoria. (Pike, crappie, perch & carp) The Eramosa flows past at the back of the ponds. (Bass & pike) and there is lots of access to the Eramosa between victoria and downtown. All within a walk or bike ride from the U of G. Cheers, C2F
  12. Hey folks. I'm hoping to break away for a day or two later this month to try my luck on the Grand in Fergus/Elora or Saugeen near Hanover using Fly gear. Can anyone offer some tips on techniques at this time of year? I'm still pretty green (especially with fly gear) and would like to increase my odds on catching a larger fish this time around as I don't get the chance often. So far I've only managed smaller fish in the 6" range. The Saugeen doesn't have the strict regs, so I wouldn't be opposed to casting/drifting tips if I get up that way... Thanks in advance C2F
  13. As Nemo posted: www.ontariopuma.ca I don't know if Eastern Cougars can have the odd black offspring or not...wolves do, so why not. Is it me or is there a lot of people who refuse to believe that Cougars could be on the comeback? Everytime I google the subject, it seems the MNR say they believe they are extinct or have inconclusive evidence... Escaped pet? Yeah, like every city or town near a reported sighting could have that many escaped (and illegal) pets...
  14. Wow...thats a tough one, sorry for your loss. Perhaps he was trying ease your anguish for doing what you had to do as I'm sure he could feel your emotions. I've been told that a dog will bear enormous amounts of suffering to keep living for his "people". You did the right thing by being humane and being there for him in the last moments. I wouldn't do it any other way myself.
