  1. Daplumma I was just through your neck of the woods yesterday and in one hour on the interstate at 70mph we counted 12 deer on the side of the road. This was around 1pm. I don't think I have ever seen an area with more deer. It was a great thing to see.

  2. I am heading to Florida later this year with my sisters family. We will be driving two vehicles and I was thinking of buying a couple hand held CB radios to communicate with. I already have 2 ways but the range can be poor and I find the battery life is starting to fall off. I can get a 12 volt adapter for the CB's, which would be much easier. Is there any thing I should look for or stay away from in a hand held. I was looking at a pair of GE 3-5980A radios for a pretty reasonable price, does any one have any experience with these?

  3. I would like to know what the price of Cannon down rigger swivel bases is normally. Any body know off hand, I took a quick look on BP and Cabelas web sites and did not see the style I have. Mine are about a 4 inch square block single handle on side to allow swivel with four detente positions (I think). Thanks for the help.

  4. Go with the most power you can afford. You may not need it most of the time but that one day when the fishing is fantastic and you cant stay where you want because your smaller motor can not fight the wind you will be glad you did. Also it is always easier to sell the larger motors if you ever decide to.

  5. Sounds to me like the river may be your best bet. If you decide to venture a bit further Harrington can be a lot of fun. I haven't fished Lakeside in years there were a ton of bass and some perch and pan fish but last I heard the owner was not allowing fishing. A little South of where you are staying( 5 miles) is the South branch of the Thames, you can find some descent bass and Pike all along this river. Hope this helps.

  6. I can't personally verify this but was told a group of Americans were on the main channel of the French river a week ago and not having much luck. The water level is still very high and fishing has been tough. They landed very few fish during their stay but did manage a 52 lb. musky. There are pictures of it and if I can get my hands on them I will post them. Just thought some here that frequent the area may be interested.

  7. I agree with Wayne 3/8 ths. Quarter can be a killer on your hands. Also If you can, spend the extra couple bucks and get a better quality rope that is soft. Don't opt for the cheap yellow polypropylene it does not hold knots very well and is tough on your hands. Lastly get a 4-6 foot length of chain to ad to the anchor end of your rope.

  8. I love the auto pilot feature. I find it steers very nicely, not jerky at all. Only time I have had any issues at all is on Lake Erie in large waves it can get confused the odd time, you just need to stop it face it in the right direction and turn it back on.

  9. You can use a standard "T" but some marine mechanics recomend you use a splitter type valve that you turn to your main or kicker depending on what you are running. The main reason is that it is possible when using a "T" and running one motor to create a vacuum in the other motors fuel line resulting in a vapor lock. i know several people that did not use the valve and have not had any problem but when I did mine I aired on the side of caution. I don't want to be in the middle of the lake and not be able to start the main motor. By the way I bought all I needed at Bass Pro.

  10. I'm sorry guys but I have to disagree with a few of you. You can limit out on walleye on a regular basis in June. You just have to go to the West end. Any one here that has been to Colchester in May or June can tell you this. I have been on three charters out of Colchester over the years and always caught our limit. It was a ton of fun and with the right captain he will show you every thing you need to duplicate the success for your self. Send me a pm if interested and I can get you in contact with a great charter operator.

  11. I too was thinking of buying the co-pilot when I bought my Power drive, that is until the local dealer told me I was nuts for spending the cash. the power drive comes with a fairly long cord and on my 18 foot bow rider reaches the back very nicely. So if your boat is not more than 18 feet just run the foot pedal to the back and use it. I set it on the seat and even adjust it with my hand, works great.

  12. I have a Polarkraft but it has the same cover system that Wayne is talking about and you cannot compare it to a generic cover. You can put it on in torrential down pour and go down the highway at 110 km?h and when you get to the lake take it off and every thing inside is bone dry. while all this is happening you are not taking the paint off the side of your boat from the flapping excess material. They also make a great overnight cover in bad weather at the dock.

  13. Beertech the vehicles you have listed have all been great to me for longevity. The Canyon is 3 years old now and the only thing we have done was a evap sensor under warranty. The Silverado I am selling has just over 200k on it and other than brakes I have not had to touch it. No matter what you buy they can all have their problems butin my experience these are pretty solid trucks.

  14. I am just in the process of getting rid of my 2000 Silverado with a 5.3, i am replacing it with an 05 Silverado with a 4.8. If was up to me I would have stayed with the 5.3 for the extra power when towing. The 4.8 is slightly better on fuel when empty but put the trailer on and they are almost the same. As for the Canyon/Colorado my wife has had an 06 since new and although it is a nice truck the 4.8 in the Silverado will be pretty much the same and when towing probably better. If fuel mileage is what your after I would stick to GM out of the big 3. Unless your looking at going brand new, then the new Fords are pretty impressive, but the new GM's are a lot better than the older ones as well.

  15. Daniel I used the Scotty's all last year with no problems what so ever. I was told just make sure when you insert the rod holder into the base give it a smack straight down with your hand. My dealer said the most of the problems they see are due to the holder not being fully seated in the base and then turning.
