  1. Wormdunker, I have been sponsored by both Vexilar and Lowrance and always had the latest unit on the hard water with me. I now have a ICE 55 and absolutely love it. You can zoom anywhere on the water column and it also has a dual beam transducer... you can also change the colour spectrum to better see fish laying on bottom in deep water.... awesome unit and for the price and quality you can't go wrong. Greg.
  2. CrappiePerchhunter... well spoken and I appreciate your reply as well. Non of us our guaranteed tomorrow and fishing with family or a friend is priceless for sure. I also love Perch (more then Crappie lol!) and will be out on the weekend with some folks from the U.S. chasing them on Simcoe. No offense taken in anyway and have a great hard water season my friend!.... Greg.
  3. Hi Nick, Good luck getting your uncle to bite on selling his Argo... awesome safe vehicles for ice fishing for sure.. when I put the tracks on I can always go anywhere no matter how much snow or slush. That hard top was designed and built by a aircraft builder in Manitoba and a "one of".... so light and I even have a aircraft spot light on the back.... its heated and very comfortable taking out 4 guys. Kipawa Jim, Ice is slow making this year and lots of big crack's opened up and even some open water in a couple of spots... I was in the central N.E. side of the lake and had between 6 and 8" of solid ice under us. After this cold weekend most of those spots will have tightened up good but you always need to check conditions on your way out and never assume its good ice all over.... if I see dark patch's or discoloration from other area's I always stop before it and check the ice. I always wear of floater suit and carry ice pic's when walking out... I gave mine to my son and stayed near my Argo cause it floats and have gear and good winch to get out of anything.... Bottom line... never take chances out there and always be safe... Greg.
  4. Hey Crappie Hunter, I have fished Scugog for over 35yrs and yes... certainly not the fishery it was years ago but the same for all the Kawartha lakes. That said, its still loaded with Walleye's and in fact usually still have no problem catching a limit of 4 each now under stable condition's. Scaling down in size and slowing down jigging cadence was key in even getting a bite Sat.... I got mine fish at high noon! Fish were so negative and off with that brutal front and N. winds... case in point one of my good friends that knows the lake like the back of his hand and lives in Port Perry went out Sat. evening with 2 other buddies... w x3 minnow's rigs down and x3 rods jigging all they got was a Muskie and few perch during the prime bite.. Walleye were there just off... can see them laying on bottom with the camera but just sulking! lol. Don't give up on the 'Bog'...still loaded with Walleye's... try to new spots and down size baits as it still has ton's of Walleye's. Good luck to all and be safe out there.... Greg.
  5. When my son came over Friday night and wanted to go out for a ice fish for Walleye Saturday I thought great! That is til I woke up it the morning to nearly -30 Wind chill temps!!!!---Burr. Screaming north winds under sunny cold front conditions made me want to stay in bed but after a quick Bacon and Egg breakfast and some coffee off we went. Thank goodness for the hardtop on the Argo. I was able to totally block the wind and fish on the calm side with the sun shining on our faces. The fish were really negative so I dropped down to lighter line and we worked minnow tipped jigs slowly right on bottom. We focused on deep edges off weedflats in approx 9-10ft. Afterabout 30mins into the game I felt a light 'thump' and iced this 19" beauty ... After no other action other then a couple of small perch we moved to a different GPS spot and within minutes had another clone fish on the ice... it was so cold the fish froze in less then a minute. Here is a pic of my son holding up a couple nice ones while I froze my fingers for a quick picture.. Even though the conditions were brutally cold and windy we enjoyed another great Father and Son time on the hard water! Take care and be safe out there.. Greg.
  6. For family reason's I was not able to fish the Phenix Open/Casey Cup this opener on Simcoe for the first time in over 15 years (won it with 26.91 4yrs ago). I did get out on the opener and got a number of 4 and 5lb fish and yesterday took my Daughter and her boyfriend out on Simcoe and we nailed a number of 5 and 6lb fish and would have weighted a 5fish bag in excess of 26lbs. Drop shots rigs and jerkbaits in 5 to 12ft of water was the ticket working off some good chunk rock clusters on big flats.. also missed some pigs!.. ended the day catching perch in 40ft and diving off the boat to cool off!.. awesome day on the water! Get out and drag some tubes, dropshots and throw some jerkbaits cause the big girls are going right now!! Take care and good fish'n.... Greg.
  7. Thanks guys.... its was a awesome day and not one soon forgotten for sure! Fishing was really slow on Sat... we did get a 7lb Whitefish and another just under 4lbs.... lots of fish coming up to look at the lures then moving away again... saw that happen dozens of times. The bugs (nats) were horrendous again! Take care and Good Fish' n... Greg.
  8. Wow!!!... The weather may have been a little rainy and overcast today and surprized not to see another boat fishing today but the action was awesome! Had some clients out today and we got into some really nice fish including a couple of pigs! Whities and Lakers came on large Rapala jiggn Raps and small white tubes and all fish caught in 65 - 72' of water. Attached a pic of a 16 plus and another Laker pushing 20lbs! Have a another full day trip booked for tomorrow and can't wait to get out! Be safe and Good Fish'n.... Greg.
  9. A couple of weeks ago I made a trip into some of my fav. Northern Haliburton Brookie and Rainbow Lakes and could not into 8 of them we tired because they were still iced over!! Made a day trip this weekend to one of the Rainbow lakes and because the water was still cold I found the fishing a little tough but did manage to get into some nice fish and lost a few along the way! I tried everything (gang trolls with a woolybugger and worm or just worm... spinners and worms... but they only hit small crank baits on a fast troll. Here is a cool pic of a brilliant coloured male and a nice female also. I just thawed some winter Simcoe Whities and lakers and will have the Bradley smoker going tomorrow!... fridge is full full brined trout right now and can't wait till tomorrow night!!.. yummy! Be safe and Good Fish'n .... Greg.
  10. But Phil.... you only own 2 rods?.... good advise though buddy! .. G
  11. K... check out this YouTube video I created for one of the Laker's taken that day!!... kinda cool for sure!.. Greg. http://www.youtube.com/user/Slayingm#p/a/u/0/GSjSA-g2Mz4
  12. Just finished my last ice fishing trip a few days ago for one of my fav's... Spec's!! Was N.W of Ottawa and we had to ATV in approx 25km's from the cottage we stayed at...enjoyed awesome weather, amazing shorelunch, wildlife including a Moose on the trail coming out.... oh ya.. and a few nice Specs too! All fish were taken in 3 to 7' of water with worm tipped spoons and just a worm and split shot rig. Looking forward to getting back up in the next 2-3 weeks for a softwater trip Be safe and Good Fish'n!... Greg.
  13. Cudz... you got that right... and the best part was we were like 1.5 km's from the closest person!... We are lucky to be on and enjoy the world-class fishery Simcoe provides in our own backyards! See ya on the water.... G.
  14. Great info provided re: the Black wooly bugger and small spinners... don't rule out trying some really small cranks like the Cricket or Grasshopper... they also work awesome!.. just finished my last ice Brookie trip a few days ago and can't wait to get out on the soft water!
  15. The fish are still suspending off the deeper drops for the most part yet.... Big Cliff has the temps bang on and we need some warmer consistent weather to heat up the North ends and canals... won't be long:thumbsup_anim:
  16. For various reasons I was unable to post this a couple of weeks ago but better late then never! Enjoyed another spectacular season on Simcoe this winter from Jumbo perch, consistent White fish limits but the lakers were the real treat! Most of my trips for consistent Laker/Whitie action was approx 20km out into the main lake with the Argo from Beaverton. But the last couple day of the season we really dialed the fish in... ton's of only lakers with thick schools of smelt moving through all day. We had a triple header and 3 double headers one day with Lakers which was fun for sure. Fish were all taken in 60 to 65 FOW on Flash spoons, darter heads with Gulp smelt minnows and tubes. Here is a sample of some of the fish we took (most released) on Mar 14th....We caught a number of fish in the 10 to 20lb class that day... Got 2 love Simcoe! Take care and Good Fish'n... Greg.

  19. Johnny Bass... wtg man!!... good to see you getting into some great action... well done and keep it up!....G.
  20. Wow.... besides the amazing weather over the long weekend the fishing action was equally hot!! I had folks out on the Severn River and Sparrow Lake on Sat and we got into a number of Pike and Walleye. Sunday's trip on Rice Lake though was something else!!! I have fished that lake including Walleye tournaments for many years and never experienced action like this before! I had a father and son out for the day on Sunday who recently purchased property on the lake and wanted to get to know the lake better. We headed out from a launch on the N. side of the lake at 8am and each of the 6 stops for the day produced Walleye. In fact some of the GPS spots I have fished for years were so hot we had mutilple double headers of Walleye on and all on artificial baits. We stopped fishing at approx. 3:30pm and had boated 50 Walleye's and lost others. I have never seen the action so hot on this lake in 28 years fishing it. We kept our limit of 4 fish each in the slot and had a blast. The most productive pattern's were working deep weedine points on main lake weed flats. Bucktail jigs and smoke and white grubs accounted for all the fish. Beautiful day on the water with the amazing weather made the experience unforgetable. Attached a couple of pics of some of the fish in the slot kept for a great fish fry! Take care and Good Fish'n.... Greg.
  21. Gee thanks Dirk... I will be fishing x2 CSFL's events on Rice Lake in July and hopefully can win another $10,000- again like last year!!!.... need a little luck though. See you on the water... Greg.
  22. LucG - That Perch was 14.25" long and weighted in at 1.38lbs. OldPhart: Missed you out there this year and look foward to next. $10K guaranteed payout should see more teams in 2011! Stan: Good to hear from you man and good luck on the water this year! Cudz: Funny guy... ya.. hardtop Argo in the winter and 21' Stratos Walleye boat on the soft water... included pics of both. http://profishntangl...es/100_0488.jpg http://profishntangl...com/MyPictures/Gregs New Argo2.jpg Take care and good luck all.... Greg.
  23. Hi All, It was a amazing season ice fishing on Simcoe gain this year...... ton's of Laker's and WF and Jumbo's. Here is a last ice pic of of some monster Jumbo's on the last week of March when I had my son out on Simcoe.... 1 month later we fished the Georgina Fishing Series Perch Attach on Simcoe this past Sat. and won 'Big Fish' for the overall biggest perch brought in and 3rd place for the heaviest bag of 15 Perch that won us $1,800.00 cash for the day .... great day on the water fishing with my son! Take care and good fish'n... Greg.
  24. Hey Fish3Eyes, You are exactly right!!....personlly I would never of kept the fish myself but rather opt for a replica.... although I encouraged David to do the same he really wanted to get a original skin mount and had to respect that as he was licenced and had every right todo so..... Greg.
  25. Well, This is truly incredible. I have fished Rice for over 25yrs including 20yrs of Professional Bass tournaments on that lake and the very best I have every done was a 6.03lb smallie that won me Big Fish award in a tournament one year. I just had one of my last guide trips of the year on Rice and one of my clients nailed a 7.05lb Smallmouth on a black bucktail jig while fishing for walleye along a deep weedline adjacent to a hard botton in approx. 10' of water. We had already taken a nice walleye along this break when David yelped out 'Fishon'!. When I 1st saw the fish clear the water my jaw must have nearly dropped to the bottom of the boat as I new this fish was incredibly huge. After a long fight in the wind I finally slid the net upder the fish and into the boat... the 4 of us could not believe what we were looking at! On the scale the fished weighted 7.05lbs (and usually weights a little light) and was over 24" long and had a 16.5" girth. What a spectacular fish for a Kawartha lake. David new he had a trophy of a live time and after quick deliberation decided to keep the fish as he wanted a actual skin mount vs a replica. David is a big guy at 6' 2" and here is a pic of his monster smallie: Also, here is a pic of one of the nice Walleye taken.... Great way to end the soft water season for another year. Looking foward to a little break now todo some bow hunting with my son before the hardwater ice fishing season starts. Take care and good fish'n.... Greg.
