  1. Great report Simon, love the pics of the little guy,my little guys are in their 30,s,soon they will be leading me around by the hand.LOL.

I was out yesterday with my GF,small remote lake,we brought home a limit of pan sized walleyes, didn't catch anything near the size of those Lac Seul monsters, but we did watch a cow moose swim down the lake.Yes it is great to live in this North country,I know I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

    Thx again for the report

  2. If you have moose ribs, then you probably have moose steak & roast in your freezer too.Do yourself & your friends a favour, cook the steak or roast.I have tried moose ribs, ever since they go out to the landfill with the hide & bones.I have sampled others efforts at moose ribs & found them inedible as well.TOUGH.

There maybe others on here with better results, but that is MHO.

  3. Hey Blue, thanks for the post!

I wasn't implying that people should only want labs, huskies etc.

I didn't mean you were implying anything,BassMan,sorry if you took my comments that way.I was referring to the dog owners who believe they have to have a special registered breed of dog & all others are (only mutts)

For curiosity sake, what is the difference between a humane society, an animal shelter, and a rescue north? Or are they generally all the same concept?

    Ryan

I believe they are pretty much the same concept

  4. Both my GF & I have adopted dogs from OSPCA,around here they are called Rescue North,my current dog was abandoned at a few weeks of age in a remote First Nations land fill, winter before last. She & 1 male survived out of the litter because a reserve cop noticed them in the dump.

When I got her she was frost bitten & starving. She has turned out to be a great companion.

My GF adopted her guy about 6 yrs ago, apparently he was a stray wandering the streets.

    Best dog she ever had.

Never discount a dog from an animal rescue shelter,I realize they may not be Labs,Goldens or all that trendy, but they can & do make very good family members.

Simon I am not a really big fan of trout, lots of work to do around the place  But can hardly wait for walleye opener.

  6. Very pleased that your daughter is OK.I put "Deer Whistles" on my pick-up & GF's car about 5 yrs ago.I got to say,I'm a believer in these inexpensive devises.

We live in NWO,lots of deer & moose. My GF drives about 130 kms 1 way to Sioux Lookout 4 work & that Hwy has lots of deer & moose as well as bear.

Since I put on the whistles we have had very few close calls.B4 we had lots.

You still see the animals but they seem to know you are coming.

  7. I use ground moose or venison, mixed up with seasoning cures from Cabelas or Shore Lunch.I have a jerky canon.Dehydrater works best, but I have used the oven as well. The finished product has a nice chewy texture, you would never know it was ground meat.

  8. my kids are the same age and they both have spincast. for the 6-year old get one of the zebco's and you won't have a problem.

Taught both my boys on spincasts(Zebcos),as they grew older they switched to spinning outfits.Spincast are easier to use.The point should be to teach them the joys of fishing. The simpler the better,IMHO

Also use something to tie the rod to the boat, lost a couple overboard before I learned that trick. :wallbash:

  9. While I am definitely not new to fishing, been fishing 50+ yrs,I am thinking I would like to try flyfishing. The lake I live on has a lot of Smallmouth & I thought that maybe it would be a great way to catch them on those calm mornings when they are feeding on the surface.Any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

  10. 4-6 hours is crap. I have a DEKA MARINE MASTER that I used for the same purpose, fishing on a small boat. It lasts a good 16-18 hours on a full charge with 2 people in the boat.

I'm not saying it won't last longer than 4-6 hrs, thats about how long it is used between charges.I charge it up when I get home after every trip.

  11. my opinion would be the charger from ctc.

its the only one of the 3 that has

•Reverses sulphate build-up on battery plates while monitoring battery voltage to detect potential battery defects

+1,being able to de-sulfanate a deep cell will give it a whole new life,I've seen guys write off batteries that only needed de-sulfanating.

  12. I keep a 12ft stashed on a small lake & I only use my electric to fish there.Easy in & out with my quad carrying motor & battery.I've used a gr27 Energizer from Wallmart for 3 yrs now,I have a cheap automatic charger from CTC.

I put battery on charger everytime I get back from fishing.Never had any problems.Make sure your battery is fully charged when you put it away for the winter.I always store my boat batteries indoors above freezing temps.
