  1. Thanx guys for your input. I do have a Garmin 72 hand held Gps, with the Navionics on my iphone, I think I'm good to go. As I am of the older generation I like to ask the the experts - usually the younger folks. If it's new & worthwhile U younger guys have the edge! I was looking to get a newer GPS but $500 bux is not in the budget at this time. Feel free to offer advice, cause I don't know the newer modern electronics. Thanx

  2. I purchased an iphone in June still learning all the ins & outs. I recently bought the navionics app which cost $15.00. Works great. If U were to purchase the navionics chip for a chartplotter the cost is $300.00, other maps R $170.00. Over the week end I saw Italo advertising a GPS app that is free. Go to ufindfish.com Looks good. I haven't loaded the app yet. Does any one have experiences with ufindfish.com? Please comment. Thanx

  3. I'm new in Sudbury, never fished Nipissing until this winter. I've been out 5 times to explore Nipissing coming home with little to no fish. Not knowing which area to target I just stopped the Atv near 2 other huts. I augered 3 holes, got set up & almost instantly the bite was on. I didn't move all afternoon, at times I could only manage 1 rod, cause the other rod was basically feeding the fish! I fished from 1:00 - 5:30. I was fortunate enough to land a limit of wallys, 30 perch, of which 4 were 12". The other perch were 8-10". Also landed a Cisco (lake herring) approximately 2 1/2 lbs. I was advised by a fellow fisher that Ciscoes on Nipissing are full of worms so I released it. I recently purchased the new Humminbird Ice 55. Amazing how the flasher showed the Cisco coming up from the bottom to chase down my bait. Twice during the day I caught 2 walleye that were shown to be suspended at 24 fow. I was in 40 fow. I raised my bait to 24 fow WHAM, fish on! I have never used electronics during the hard water season until recently. Without the flasher I would not have seen those fish up in the water column. Really exciting.

  4. My new Polaris 500 with a 3500 lb winch was $6500.00, Marsh's Marine in Waubashene same price, Sturgess cycle in Hamilton $6,200.00 no winch. So for $12,000.00 you can almost get 2 & the 500 is ideal for me as I am an older, gentle rider, I don't use it for mud bogging. I mainly use mine to get on & off the ice & some trail riding while hunting partridge in the fall. 30 MPH across the ice is plenty fast for me. Hope this helps with your decision.

  5. Loomis IMX 7' with Shimano Spirex 1000, 8lb Trilene XL for walleye. Been using this unit for the smaller walleye for 10 years. Love it. I also use an older Browning 6' Cardinal 3 spooled with 8lb XL. This unit is 20 years old. I can't give it up - it has caught me more fish than I can remember. For the "hog" walleye on Erie I use a 7' Shimano Clarus with Ambassadeur 6500 spooled with 30 power pro, & 5' flouro leader. I really like the Clarus rod, so I purchased a spinning version as well, mounted a Penn 4500 on this baby! I love them all - now which one do I use???

  6. Hey Skip thanx for the info. Please show us how u make the minnow trap. Nice looking shop, can I come & PLAY!! U must be my twin. I do ALL my work myself, forever tinkering in my garage. Right now I'm putting the finishing touches on my portable fish hut that folds out in less than 30 seconds (ready to fish)! It even has retractable wheels for running down a dry road. When I get to the ice in less than 1 minute the wheels R retracted, the hut is now on skis WOO HOO!

  7. Well I'll run my ethanol free fuel thru everything I have, and you run your corn gas thru your stuff, and we'll all be happy.

I'd rather not have to worry about it, thanks.

Most premium fuel still has ethanol folks. The only fuel I can find with NO ethanol is Shell V-power. I run it in everything.
