  1. curently there is a bit of gap around door (not closed) we havn't cut a vent yet as it is easy to cut holes hard to fill them so we want to make sure things are right before getting carried away with holes how much vent you think is needed???
  2. the smoker is gas my bro let the chips soak over night he put them in cabinet and watched for 2hr and no smoke cabinet temp reached 180 easily in that time after aprox 2 hr he lit the chips with a torch to get them going and I think things were ok from then how long should it take for smoke to start I'm wondering if the flame is to large causing it to heat fast and stop thus not putting chips in heat long enough I also think he mover the chip tray closer to flame several times it maybe sitting on top of flame guard now
  3. it seems the heat is not enough to make the chips smoke. I spoke to my brother he soaked the chips for the night and put them in damp
  4. my Brother was the guy that did the test run I will ask him if he did is it something like soak for an hour and then put them in the tray wet
  5. Ok so as per my other post My brother and I built a smoker looks nice but not working very well. Issue was it wasn't creating smoke. we put the tray of chips in above the flame area but they didn't start to give off smoke until we actually lit the chips to burn. and the flame unit just kept the heat. I always thoght the flame would make the chips smolder. any of this sound familure to anyone out there that smokes. looking for more info/how it works in yours
  6. oh man the part was on that page but that is more than what I paid for all the units I bought going to have to look into this maybe fabricate one
  7. ok was out last night fishing with Rich. well out banging against stumps in the pond we managed to break the mount on my trolling motor. we made it back in by tieing the motor up with rope (pic's to come). so anyway this is a Johnson Trolling motor I purchased a small pile of these a while back . What is broke is the clamp part for holding the trolling motor. I'm just not sure where to go looking for parts for this unit.
  8. I saw a boat with bright green Led's down the side like navigation lights I'm sure it helped out
  9. it shouldn't hurt anything do not do it if your soon going for etest only because it is oil in the fuel it could mess up the readings I do it all the time
  10. i was pretty sure it was i just didn't find that part in regs
  11. good point need to find my regs
  12. I was talking to a friend of my Dads he is from Texas. He was saying they use a under water green light to fish with. They go out at night to fish rather than during the day due to the heat. He says the green light is just off bottom and attracts small fish that attract the bigger ones. I'm just wondering if these methods are legal in Ontario as I always thought fishing with a light directly on the water was wrong
  13. these ones I'm waiting for are on a friends property. I have permision to fish the area. I'm waiting for thier return just not sure when that will be
  14. ok so in the spring i got out to the rivers in the area and found some steelheads even caught one but that was different spot and about 3 to 4 weeks after opening. I found a spot that there was quite a few swiming but would not take. I was told they hadn't sawned yet so they won't . well They did the job I guess and headed back. My question is when should I be watching for the return and the chance to get one on my hook.
  15. we have already located a digital control and thermocouple so we should be able to narrow the swing alot. we also have to swap the door hinge side as a hind site it's hard to hold for pilot to lite due to the swing on door
  16. well way back in the spring I asked questions on building smoke house. My brother and I have it ready to go sort of . this house is gas fired and we tried to use a pot switch that topped out at 180 but we have found the swing to be to great. the house will go up to 240 or so inside before the pot shuts off the burrner then it will almost drop off the thermometer before starting. we have a few other options in the works but here is some pictures
  17. Hey looks like my son and I missed you guys out there. we Launched from Post marine about same time as Frank and Julie. But then headed out to find another friend to find out he moved on. So we just hung out with the crowd of boats. we managed to hook about dozen keepers. Hung around abit then saw Frank and Julie (but wasn't sure it was them ) fished there area a bit then headed back in to toss some pink worms (my son is in search of a big fish but won't keep line in water). Saw Frank and Julie getting ready to pull the boat out and finally said hi.Then went and pulled mine just in time to meet up with Dan to find out we missed out on the on the water gathering . To bad for us but still great day. My boy wants to go today too
  18. the 40 hp is a 66 but looks the same as my 61 spare I have too the 80 hp will be prob a test run and sell I'm thinking or maybe it will be saved for a new hull (in my dreams) the story I got on the 80 is that the bottom end was removed to do impeller and a bolt got broke so it never got put back together i ckecked and it has a new impeller. Still havn't found the broken bolt (haven't looked much) the power head turns over. pulled the plugs and loaded it full of 2stroke oil (no real clue as to how long it sat). She will smoke alot when she starts but been there before. I keep this up and I'm going to look like a outboard shop curently have 59 gale 12hp (needs coils) 12hp elto (parts motor for gale) 18hp Nissian (for sale) 62 9.8 merc (needs check valves for fuel pump ) 61 evenude 40 man shift (just got running needs carb clean) 66 rude 40 electric shift (incurent use on boat) 80hp merc in basket now
  19. any motor can be a tiller you just need to add a handel
  20. the merc weights less than the old evinrude that I have hanging of it now (yes I checked it) So the weight issue sould be ok. just toying with the idea maybe it will be only to test out the 80
  21. it does work good but this is newer motor merc 80hp so yes lots bigger I know but like i said no need to go to full out i was thinking it being lighter would be better too
  22. ok I have a 16ft starcraft tiler i have been runing a old heavy 40hp this is the max size the hull is rated for.I just aquired another motor (needs work) but it's a larger hp rating . the bigger motor is lighter than the old one. i'm thinking of runing the bigger motor cause i don't have to run full out. what issues might I encounter
  23. I would love to take the kids to see Dave and the others again . I have to work so I can't do it (only sort of complaining) At least I'm working again
