  1. Its an unwritten rule in Canada that the government is there to protect us from ourselves.

Its a rule that you need one to get back. If they let you back without one, thats fine with me.

Happened to my friend, he forgot his passport when he was in NYC.

Canada obviously let him in without looking at his ID or anything...I mean its the Canadian border.

He had a little hassle getting back to the US but he did have his military ID and birth certificate! I think the rule only applies if your not American hahaha.

  2. I do not own a boat.

I always rent a boat which has all the necessary safety gear required by law.

So does this mean I don't need the boaters card???

Just give me the facts straight up.

Thanks Rick for the info but why are there a mix of opinions?

    Laz

Its a new process, we are discussing off topic but almost on topic! hahaha!

I believe someone said you don't need to get one when renting a boat. I haven't looked that up.

That website will be able to answer all your questions!

  3. Looks like they doubled the price now.

Here's the course providers database. http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/4/pcoc-ccep/search.asp

For those trying to get the card, beware of testing centers that are charging more than $30 unless they also teach a course before the test or they have a excellent reason why to charge more, ie advertised and group testing many people at the same time.

I called one place they were charging $50 when their website says they charge $30 at most.

    http://www.tc.gc.ca/marinesafety/debs/obs/...s/pcoc/menu.htm

That link tells you who offers the courses & card.

    - No one offers just the card because you are supposed to pass a test, and how are you supposed to pass a "test" if there was no course/training.

    - Companies that offer online tests at hire price give you the ability to print the card out and get it immediately.

    - While the ones that are cost effective chances are you'll be waiting for the card from the ministry.

My in-law's paid $50 dollars each at the boat show, but the testing process was...give me 50 bucks, heres the test & a study guide! Please don't cheat ;) ;)

  4. We bought our boat off of Kijiji. The best part was, they were from Barrie aswell.Just up the street.

The whole point of Kijiji is to avoid the scams of online purchases by buying locally and meeting up with the person to exchange products/payments.

    Off the Kijiji rules :

"When buying or selling, you should meet in-person to see the product and exchange funds. Kijiji is all about local transactions."

This goes back to the facebook thread, people just use things/assume things are a certain way without reading the rules.

If you knew what Kijiji was really about before using it, you would know 100% that anything that involves an online payment is a scam!!

That is how its supposed to be done!

  5. i bought the boat in the picture with 4 hours on it from a nice fella in michigan, thru ebay. when i showed up to pick up the boat, and hand over my cheque, we both breathed a huge sigh of relief. "we were'nt being scammed!"

there are no authorities to report these guys to. in the countries they originate from it is legal and even considered a respectful occupation to scam north americans by turning their own greed against them. kijiji, ebay and the trader really cant verify all of their postings. offer your prospective seller escrow on a large dollar item if you're serious.

Kijiji you aren't supposed to be exchanging anything via mail or the internet.

Ebay there is the risk because the premise of the site is to make these transactions online, but if you follow the Ebay RULES you will not get scammed as there is insurance/protection for the Ebay client.

Its when people ignore the rules of Ebay (or aren't aware of them) and use a money order or some other type of transfer thats not part of ebay to complete the sale...There is then NO recourse for the person who got scammed because they didn't get scammed on ebay....they got scammed sending a random stranger money who they MET on ebay but did not actually do a transaction via ebay!

  7. Do you see Chrome as better than Firefox, or useful alongside of Firefox?

And how so, if you don't mind giving a little detail.

At work I use Chrome and at home I use Firefox. No real reason, sadly this is how I spice it up a bit ;). Boy is it exciting being a computer technician!

When it comes down to it I'd say its all preference, and if this were a computer forum I'm sure we could get some heated debates if someone suggests one browser is superior to another! lol.

  8. I guess that is one way of getting a person to use Internet Explorer. I am not a big user of facebook and seldom even log in. I use firefox and have never had a problem of accessing anything on facebook until now. Must be one of those IE fixes.

    Tom

(I do not use facebook nor do I use IE)

I took those screen shots in Chrome.

Its all in the code! Maybe you need to update your Firefox manually?

***Just checked my home PC (where I'm typing this) and its Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.13) Gecko/2009073022 Firefox/3.0.13, worked just like the SS.

(same post, just added the image for the non-believers, I just logged into my wifes account and used paint to make a screen shot)

    Here is how:

Click on SETTINGS up at the top where you see the Log out link.

Select PRIVACY. Then select NEWSFEEDS and WALL.

Select the tab that reads FACEBOOK ADS.

There is a drop down box, select NO ONE. Then SAVE your changes

  10. I find it more true in electronic business these days that the customer isn't always right, and this is generally due to a lack of research.

Thus why clicking "I agree" without reading isn't always the best idea.

Ignorance is not a defense when you have already agreed to the terms that you are having issues with.
