  1. I was riding some mountain bike trails for the first time in a bush on the shores of lake Simcoe. I had never ridden these trails before, but was pretty sure there was a nice little area that i could get to with a view of the lake. After about 30 minutes of bombing around the trails, I pop out right on the shore of lake Simcoe. Figure it's a good place to stop and have a drink of water.

That's when I hear the roar of a float plane taking off. Cool, a nice little extra peace of scenery right!.

I couldn't see the plane because of the trees. Once the plane came out from behind the trees, and realized that there was TWO planes, which where both flying low. One was taking off, and the other was just flying low. Both where about 300 meters up.

I thought these guys where stunt pilots or something, working on a routine. But the reality was, they didn't even know one and other where there.

The two planes crashed in mid air right in front of me. One plane was able to land safely. However, the other nose dived straight in to the water, killing both occupants on impact.

I swear had 911 on the phone before the plane hit the water. The sound of the plane hitting the water was like a bomb going off.

The sad thing is, the plane which crashed hard, was taking off from a family cottage. They had their family in a chase boat buzzing along behind them, getting a good view of the take off. They where first on scene, and where able to dive in and pull their family members (Grandfather and father) out of the plane before it sunk..

Horrible thing to watch, and something that I will never forget.

  2. I use 8 lb fireline on my spinning setup, never had any trouble with that.

x2 on my walleye spinning set up.

I run 30 lb 832 on my bait casters, and have never had a problem.

The same thing you talked about happened to my uncle a few weeks back, also with 30 lb PP on a spinner. Had to cut off a bunch of line.

  3. Man,what a back yard you have. :whistling:

The shots are from the "back yard" at the cottage. A few thousand acres of crown land chaulked full of furry critters. :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim:

    Fall is for fishing lol

I really hope to get out fishing a few times this fall too. We'll see though. Not likely.

  4. EDIT. I added some more photos further down in this thread. Check em out :thumbsup_anim:

Is anyone else getting pumped for the upcoming hunting season.

Goose opens Sept 4st. Bear Sept 4th. Deer Oct 1st. Baby due Sept 3. Duck Sept 8th.

Just finished the controlled deer hunt application.

Did the Doe tag application a few weeks back, still waiting to here the results.

My hunting partner got a doe tag in a great area, and a bull moose tag. So far so good!

Might do a little skeet shotting this weekend.

My season is going to be scattered for sure with the baby coming right at the start of the season. But I still hope to get out a few times.

Here's a few pics from the Bear bait. There's a few coming around during legal shooting time. No real tanks though.

  5. you are happy with the performance of the crimps NAW? it sounds like a good solution to those of us that have trouble tying knots due to stubby fingers, eyesight issues or tendonitis, arthritis issues.

if you used them with longer leaders would they spool OK? im really not familiar with them...

My longest leader is about 18". The crimps work great, and it's very easy to make leaders using them. Far easier then trying to tie knots with heavy flouro leader material. I was having trouble getting the knots to sinch down tight. That's why I started using the crimps.

They are not ment for spooling on to a reel, atleast not with the crimps that I use. (link below)

  6. There has been many discusions on this forum about what type/weight of line to use as a leader. I would suggest using the seach function, and do some reading. There is some very very good infomation packed in to the search function on this forum. To me, it's like the google of fishing.

I use 50lb flouro. The cheap stuff you get a Basspro.

I make my own leaders with the little crimp connectors, also from bass pro. Never had one fail, but I've also never caught a pike bigger that about 32" yet on my home made leaders.. :wallbash:

  7. If you won't need a trailer to launch, then that means you don't a launch ramp in most cases. Just park where it's free, and throw your boat in anywhere along the shoreline.. No??

I definitally feel that the lot should be for vehicles with trailers only. But I feel for the guys who come with the two seater pick up trucks and lauch their big boats, but the rest of the family/friends come in a van, or car with no trailer. Now they have to park away from the launch, and walk there.
