  1. Thanks again for the replies guys!

I looked at all of the places you recommended. And a few that my wife found while doing some research.

We have it narrowed down to three. But if you answer a few more questions, then I will have my final answer.

What kind of fish can I find in the lake. And how hard are they to catch!

There are so many Lake Manitou's out there, it's tough to find confident answers.

It appears to hold Trout, bass and perch... But I would love a pickerel dinner!

If there are some lakes that hold Walleye, I would be more inclined to camp there!

Thanks again for the advice so far. Any additional help would be really great.

    Nick

  2. The hideaway lodge is nice, with nice owners. ...but its on the big lake.. so.....

With the wee man, I think I should stick to the small lakes! Thanks for the info though :thumbsup_anim:

Take them to Lake Manitou and your son will forever be proud to say: When I was a kid, my dad took me to the largest fresh water lake on an island in freshwater in the world. The lake trout fishing is decent too.

Sounds like a blast! I've have to look into that a little more. Thanks Roy!

I have a question, how did you get your wife to agree to camp with a 10mos old?

We both love camping, and want to get the boy in to it at a very young age. Actually, I'm surprised we've waited this long before taking him out. It's just been a very bust summer that all!

..and if you do take Roy's advise... you can stay at my sister-in-laws where you can get a camp site, or a cabin, as well as that boat rental. www.manitoulinresort.com

That sounds prefect Wayne!! Is there an OFC discount :whistling::blahblah1:

    Thanks!

  3. I am planning a trip to Manitoulin Island in for later this summer.

It will be my wife, and 10 month old son.

We're looking for a place to camp, rent a boat and fish an interior lake.

Does anyone have any suggestions to camp sites, or lakes that I should check out?

Any suggestions on "must see" attractions on the island would be good to!

    Thanks in advanced!

    Nick

Edit.. Small report added to the end!

  4. That's wild! I can definitely say I have never heard of anything like that before.

My good friend was biking in Inisfill on a side road a few years. When a farm dog came roaring down a long driveway, and took a serous chunk out of his bottom side. Had to get surgery to fix it, got infected, and really really messed him up... But nothing like this!!

  5. Thanks for the replies folks.. Been out of the country for a few day. I expected to see this one on page 2!

Gunna head out again Saturday morning with Alex. Hopefully tie into a few. It will be my first time taking Alex in the boat. He's 10 months. So I might not do much fishing!!!!

Jay, if you read this, let me know what your doing Saturday morning. Your boat would be perfect for Alex to crawl around in. And it's still clean!!!

  6. It's been a very busy year for my family. So far, I've only been out fishing twice, and only for short periods of time.

So when I see fellow OFC'rs name pop up on my caller ID, I got a little excited.

Livinisfishin put his newly renovated boat in the water, and was out on the lake.

The boss gave me her approval to bail on father duties for an hour.! :worthy:

I actually felt a little gitty! My boat has been sitting ready to rock for months... But hasn't hit the water yet.

We meet up at my neighbours dock, because I am across the street from the lake.

So I loaded up my bike, and shot over to the launch. 5 minutes from the time I hung up the phone, to the time my feet where on the dock. I had taken Alex for a ride last week, so the baby seat was still attached to my bike. Things fit just right!

I think I got some weird looks riding down the road to my neighbours.

He rebuilt this boat from the ground up. And it is a perfect little fishing boat. Wide open in the back. Nice and clean. He did a really good job on it. Just gotta mount the electronics and trolling motor!

We hit spot number one. Make maybe a dozen cases.

    IMG_0560_zps63fb9e5e.jpg

Then the rain started up across the lake. Time to header in.

Looked a little harmless at first. But boy, did it ever come down hard. Jay made the run back across the lake in torrential downpour. He made it safe and sound, and notified me when he got back.

So that was one failed fishing trip, and really not worth a report on OFC..

But to be honest with you, I was just really happy to get out on the water for 15 minutes. Take a few casts with some good company.

I've been joanzing to type up a fishing report for OFC! So I thought I'd try to make something out of nothing!

  7. When someone pays you to use your land, they will treat it like your own..

And most people are looking for a long term plot they can work on. A lot of effort for one season of hunting. And IMO definitely not worth the $500...

If they know they are only there for a year, they may not treat it very well.

I don't want to throw to much bias opinion in to this, but if I had a bush lot, it would be me hunting exclusively.

  8. I didn't know people leased land for hunting in ontario.

I have over 1000 acres of private land I can hunt on with written permission, and all it costs me a few cases of bear a year. And some elbow grease if the farmers need a hand with anything....

I am curious to see what the going rate for leasing is.

Are you thinking of leasing yours out?

  9. St Marie among the Hurons is in midland only 15-20 minute detour from hwy 400. I remember great times there as a child.

Victoria harbour / port mcnicol has an old cruise ship in port. Might be cool to check out from the boat.

I also second White's Falls. It's a great place to swim, and you can fish from shore, if there aren't to many people swimming! Just make sure you go visit Paul White at White's Marina and buy an ice cream cone!! Support the locals...

  10. You did what you thought was right. And I commend you for taking action on something like this.

I think I would have just let it play out, but that's just me.

I would assume that if the loon doesn't find a new lake, he is just going to get his :asshat: beat down again....

  11. Where's the pics??!

It sounds like you guys had a real good time. It's really nice to see good reports from that part of the French. I've been skunked on walleye there...

Lesson leared about the trailer lug nuts. I'm gunna go check mine tomorrow. I always just assumed they where the same size as my car.
