Check the palomar knot for tying to swivels and rings, and the uni knot for tying to a mono leader, most important.

Wire leader for pike, mono for carp, good snap swivel for the salmon spoon. Go get em.

Roy and Jeanne always are the consummate hosts, they sure know how to make their guests welcome. I can`t believe the whole fish thingy tho. Surprise to me.

We still use a couple of those setups in my family. I remember the satisfying thump thump of the spoon as the rod was brought forward while trolling. The spring at the rod tip is there to reduce the work hardening of the steel line. Another tip is to let a few inches of line move through your rod every coupla minutes so that you aren't continually bending the line at the same point.

He does fish, Glen, he just doesn't talk about it much.

Glen, thought that too about the braid, shoulda backed off the drag a bit due to the lack of stretch, but I still lost another with the fleaflicker line, which has to be the goofiest stretchiest crap out there. Drag was firm but not tight, like I said, around 6 lbs which puts a perfect arc to my fenwick.

Then again, I know how to set drag on my Abus. Honest. I do it just like you do. Steelhead are incredible.

Fished out of Port Hope yesterday. We had two riggers down with fleaflicker line, and I thought I'd put out a deep diving crankbait on the flat line, and chose a big Rapala TailDancer. 20 lb pp on that rod.

Almost immediately I get a huge hit on the Rap that bends the rod over, then nothing. Two minutes later, another monster hit, then nothing. After 15 minutes of more nothing, I check my lure to find that both trebles have been straightened.

I replaced the hooks with #2 heavies, up from the stock #4s. Then my rigger with a husky jerk went nuts. Nice heavy fish, easily pulling drag. The 12-15 lb bow came up and danced for us twice and then shook off. Checked the bait and found another straightened treble.

I couldn't believe I had just gotten 3 straightened trebles. I didn't think I had my drag set tighter than 6 or 7 lbs on both reels, but I guess that it was too tight. Do other Lake Ontario fishers strip and replace stock hooks on Raps?

It's not just for fishing, Tony. I had it lead me thru Winnipeg from the airport to the TransCanada. The turn by turn directions were flawless. At first, my passengers who had been to Winnipeg before were giving me other instructions, but after a while they shut up.

I'm sure that they all do this, but still very kewl.

Lovin the 76CSX, Goran. I think that mail order out of Alberta is the cheapest price around at http://www.gpscity.ca/ and no PST. Still not much change from your $500 bill, and around twice the price of the 76.

Apart from the colour screen, the big advantage of the CSX is the expandable memory feature. Memory is very cheap these days, so I put a 2 gb memory chip in mine, much better than the limited 8 mb that comes with the 76.

It's still a good chunk of change, but you won't regret getting it.

Power pro, or some other Spectra Fiber gel spun braid has almost no stretch and connects you very directly with your fish.

Spectra is a Honeywell product.

That Wolf River rig is a three way rig, tied using a (wait for it) three way swivel.
