I liked the shot of the pristine lake almost as much as the group shot of dinner. That work paid off.

I think sometimes the fish get beat up being pulled from the hole, and whitefish have fragile mouths, so that might explain the colour on the ice when they are landed.

Mr. Spaulding, I was being gentle with you, after all, you are new around here. I will do that again, because we all lose if one of us loses. No hard feelings, but you should know that fighting stays at the dojo, we don't do that here. It pisses off the advertisers, and if they go away, so does this. I don't want that to happen.

Most of the members here use this resource to share questions, plans, ask for ideas, and encourage others. We all enjoy if one of us has a great trip, and we feel the pain when something goes wrong. We have learned to use computers, cameras, lans, gps, and boats motors and fishing gear too. We have also talked about personal losses, with great honesty and sincerity. I have met with 93 board members over the last 6 years, and without exception have enjoyed every single conversation.

I am nobody around here, and I welcome other nobodies at any time, for what that is worth. I value this community, and work for it, and respect those that earn that respect.

CaptainSpaulding, I don't know anything about you, so judging you would just make me look silly. I didn't make any remarks about you at all, but I did comment on what you said - there is a big difference. I just wondered if that was the best way to make an introduction.

Captain, maybe it's just me, but when I try something new, with new folks, I just sorta lay back and try to get the lay of the land so to speak. First impressions are lasting, and I always try to help out where I can, I want to leave a good impression so I get invited back.

Fresh roasted troll

1 medium sized troll

1 cup minced garlic

1/3 cup olive oil

Mix the oil and garlic. Rub the mixture over the troll. Roast over an open flame until crispy brown. Serve immediately. (serves 4-6)

I think that is the same suit marketed as Nautilus 1000. It has neoprene cuffs at the sleeve, hand warmer pockets right where they should be, and SUSPENDERS. If so, that is a great piece of gear.

I'm with you, JoeyTier. Emil can do it, but walking 2 kms through deep snow in a float suit is a younger man's game. Some fine looking perch too.

Coat the guides with some sorta heavy grease, like vaseline, or mink oil or something that will stop the water from wetting your gear. No water, no ice.

Point A: Remove the snow from your roof, at least from the south and west facing slopes, at least two feet above your eavestroughs. I taped a snow shovel to a long pole, and pulled it down. This lets the melt water to flow into the eaves and away. That got rid of the icicles hanging from the eaves, a recipe for disaster. Google 'ice dam' for more info.

Point #2: We had a plumbing leak that soaked the living room floor, carpet etc. I paid a plumber on Saturday to replace the worn piping. You ever hear that 'tick tick tick' as the pipes expand when you run hot water, and tick tick tick again as they cool? For me, that was two pipes laid at right angles in tight contact. After 20 years there was a groove half an inch long in each of them, caused by the expanding and shrinking pipes as they heated and cooled. Eventually there was a pinhole in one of the pipes, and we know how that goes.

Insurance was on the job immediately, Servicemaster showed up in two hours, hogged out carpet and underlay, and set fans and dehumidifiers to work.

We paid for the plumber's work, but our home insurance paid to fix the drywall where he got access, painted two rooms, and replaced two rooms of carpeting which we parleyed into a partial payment for 3/4 in maple hardwood instead.

So, push your insurance agent. You paid money to have this fixed many times over, your turn now.

I can see that running your own power source for your house can seriously injure a worker. It seems that you must provide power from your generator directly to the appliance, not using any existing household wiring, unless you have a means to isolate your home power from the utility.

Put the Dubbin or mink oil or your favourite wax/oil sealer right to the leather, saturate the seams. My 40 yr old sorels still don't leak. What kind of a product is that? Way to lose a customer.
