  1. I installed carpet for year with my old man.

Always put down the underpad directly on the concrete and used glue on the seams and edges.

I think the plastic would trap moisture from the concrete and cause problems.

It is a real pain to put carpet in a basement on concrete. We used to use "smooth edge" around the outside perimeter and then stretch the carpet in place with kickers. It was a real pain driving the concrete nails in to get the smooth edge to hold.

You may want to consider direct glue down carpet and forget about the pad, but to each their own.

  2. Don't be in a hurry just because you want a boat NOW!

If you are anxious, it leads to bad decisions. NEVER buy without first taking it out on the water.

If you are in doubt about the motor at all, do a compression check. Make sure the transom is sound.

  3. Good for cruising around, but probably not the best for fishing except on super calm wind-free days.

Those things sit up so high in the water with those flat sides, they are like a big sail, you'll get blown all over the lake in pretty much any amount of wind.

If you were putting a TM on it, you'd need a heck of a lot of thrust to move it around in the wind.

  4. Looking to get out to a few dealers to see some boats on display.

Mainly looking at Lunds, Sylvans, Crestliners in aluminums and Triton, Nitro and Stratos in glass boats.

Have looked at a number of pictures on-line, but it doesn't give you the real picture of climbing up in and moving around in one. I've gone to a few local places, but they only have 1-2 boats on display.

Any dealers between Peterborough and BPS that would have a few different models on display to get an idea about set-ups?

Anyone seen any local boats for sale that are in good shape - Looking at Kijiji hour after hour is starting to wear on me, especially after missing out on a few boats so far.

Ideally, I would go to the boat show - but my time machine is broke.....

    Thanks for the info.

  5. Got out on Chemong for the first time this year in search of some 'eyes. day was reallllyyyy slow, but this nice one hit a pumpkinseed powergrub in about 10 fow above some recent weed growth. This thing hit like a mac truck, hard and fast!

I'm going to call it 22" and it had a nice 13" girth - I estimate it at somewhere between 5 and 6 pounds. A PB for me, modest at best, but still a PB. It is shaping up to be a good walleye year.

  6. Nailed this nice 'eye in about 3 feet of water on a white gulp minnow over some rocks just after dark.

Brought it in to show the better half and the reply was simply Mmmmmm Yuuuuummmmmyyyyy. We only had walleye once last year and she remembers back to that amazing taste these fish have.

Nice, chunky 21" fish - can't wait until dinner tomorrow night. Maybe some surf and turf Kawarthas sytle!

  7. Anyone buy a boat in the states lately?

I'm just wondering if I should start looking, but with the exchange rate being where it is, about $1.20 and adding on the 13% at the border, just wondering if anyone else still thinks it's worth it. That adds about 30%+ to the posted price of the boat as well as the gas to go down and get it.

Probably more selection in the States than there is around here though.

    What you all think?

  8. Would be fishing almost always inland lakes - tri-lakes for example. Maybe get out on Quinte or Simcoe once or twice a year.

I like to get from spot to spot somewhere between 40-50 mph. 50 seems really, really fast to me and I don't think I would feel comfortable going much over that.

Can you beach a glass boat without too much damage to the keel/bottom? Some of the launches I uses are not in the best shape and don't have docks. Pretty tough to launch and park yourself without beaching it.

  9. What type of hull do you like on the boat you fish from:

    1) Deep V aluminum

    2) Modified V aluminum

    3) Glass - bass boat style

What are the pros and cons in your opinion?

Why did you choose the hull you did?

If you don't have a boat and were buying, what would you be looking for?

I'll start - bought an aluminum "bass boat" style boat for the fact it was my first boat and I knew it may get scratched up a bit as I learned the ropes. I couldn't stand it if I scratched up a gel coat, but a nick in the paint can be fixed easier. Not too many of these types of boats sold now - only the Tracker Tournament V18 has a hull like mine, but I wish there was more choice. I like the ride, cuts through chop pretty good and is stable for fishing.

I read the ride in a mod-v is a bit rough in larger 2-3 footers, but I don't get into that much around here.

As I said, I just prefer aluminum as it's more fogiving IMO than glas and rides a bit better. Not ruling out a future glass boat though.

  10. Thanks for the comments guys, unfortunately boat sold to a Sudbury resident, dealer of all people, according to the seller.

Apparently I was third in line and #2 took it.

Really kicking myself now as it was a fantastic boat at a very, very competitve price. Just goes to show you have to act fast. Well, there may be another one out there someday.....

  11. Is this a fair price:
