  1. Hey everyone

I have an opportunity to head up to Port Severn the last weekend of September. I'm debating weather to make the trip or not. Anyone willing to talk me into it ?? lol !!!! whats the fishing like in the area at that time ?

I can't help but notice that its about an hour from Simcoe. Would the big fall smallies and perch be hitting hard at that time on Simcoe ?

PLEASE..... talk me into this trip . haha

  2. geez, why do people insist on making me aware of these nice toys :D

seeing as we're pretty sure there's a bun in the oven ( :):D:good::canadian::clapping::thumbsup_anim:) and the money tree is a bit strained, how about some free/cheap solutions?

haha Sorry, I just had to do it. This is my first year with mine and trolling with the I-pilot is awesome !

BUT .... I think an addition to the family trumps the addition to the boat any day ! Hopefully the "pretty sure" turns into a FORSURE ! Good luck with your up coming journey ! Its a wild/scary/amazing ride... I just did it March 27th !

  3. 101 lb Minn kota Terrova with I pilot..... set the "auto pilot" heading/speed.... problem solved :thumbsup_anim:

now, if you DON'T have an extra $1750 bucks laying around.... I would think maybe slowing the troll down / face the wind to get set up ... once set, get comfy and set trolling speed ??? Im not much help though, I dont troll often.

  4. thanks again everyone... lots of good ideas.

It sucks because the hall we are having it in wont allow outside alcohol bottles to be brought it. So the "toonie toss" has to be done with an empty bottle... doesn't change the game, but ya know :blahblah1: and I want to do a wheel barrow of booze... but again, we either need to make cardboard cut outs , or find a bunch of empty bottles haha

  5. So Im the best man in a wedding this fall. My best friend of 22yrs is getting hitched.

We are getting together tonight to plan the stag and doe and I was wondering if anyone had any cool game ideas ?

Everyone has the same stuff around here... hammer the nail in a block of wood, toonie toss, raffle, etc.

Im looking for some un-ordinary games that would be cool to have

Or any ideas for a stag and doe in general.

    Thanks for any tips

  6. For the best pounds of fish per effort......SEPTEMBER for Lake Erie PERCH.

Sounds tempting after seeing the mules you were catching but I don't think perch made his wish list.

Lake Erie was on his list so I thought it was worth mentioning... :)

If the perch are anything like the ones you are catchin BB.... Ill be all over it. I have a grandpa that I said I would get out for some perch fishing this year and the usual spots around this side of lake Erie ARENT producing didely squat !!!

I would love to get into a school of jumbos ! haha

  7. Im thinking about taking a few days this fall to do some fishing.

I want to hit up Simcoe forsure for some trophy smallies. Then possibly Quinte for some Eyes.

Of course I will be hitting the home waters of LSC and hopefully Erie.

If you had ONE WEEK of vacation to take between now and the end of September or October... when would you take it ?

    Thanks

  8. Mostly Lake St.Clair.... but I want to make a few weekend trips to quinte/simcoe/nipissing.

Im thinking a good 4x4 ATV is what I am after.... it can be used YEAR round and they are a little more my style. We dont get much snow for sledding around here so a skidoo wouldn't get nearly the same amount of use.

  9. Hey everyone

I know Im starting early, but I want to get my gear lined up for ice fishing.

I got the bug last year when we made a few trips to Simcoe. Im after a trophy perch this year.

Im looking at getting a 4 wheeler and a small clam style shanty.

What would be the best 4 wheeler for the job ? I have been told a smaller 2wd is the best so if you get stuck, its easy to move out.

But I think a 4wd would be the best option, no ?

  10. It probably is your transducer placement. I hope not. Make sure there are no rivets ,strakes or anything inb front of it. Clean water flow usaully eliminates alot of surface clutter. make sur your transducer is 1/8th to 1/4 inch below the centerline of it , below the true bottom of your boat. use a ruler or other straight edge. if you have already done this then use the shallow water clutter option to claean it up.

    I hope this helps.

    darren

I installed the ducer as to Lowrance directions. I lined the center line of the transducer with the bottom edge of the boat with a straight edge. and I made sure to mount the ducer level as well. I think it just has to do with settings. I have to turn the sensitivity down as well !

Oh ya, and I mounted it in a spot where the water flow "should" be clear and smooth. no rivets, strakes

  11. Hey guys ... I was out perch fishing today and I had a lot of noise/clutter on the screen. I was fishing anywhere from 5 to 30 fow and the image was pretty well the same . I tried adjusting the angle on the transducer and it improved the clutter , but only while moving !

Is this an issue with the angle of transducer? Will I have to either have a clear iimage while moving and a clustered image while fishing or is there a way to get best of both worlds ?

I also turned off auto sensitivity and set it @ 60% .... It's set to shallow water also ! Which helped the image a bit

  12. I just picked up another Saros reel, and I was curious what you guys do as an initial tear down/ cleaning of the packing grease and what not.

This saros feels a little "stiff" compared to the others. Not in a bad way... I just think if I give it a good cleaning and rid it of any thick grease, it might get a bit smoother. I have "hot sauce" to lube it with after wards.

Shimano reels have the "maintenance port" .... what good is that ? Would it be good enough to just give a bit of lube in there from time to time ? or should I break the reel right down and give it a proper cleaning ?

    Thanks

  13. I have group 27 batteries for my 24V system.

    Specs:

    850 MCA

    676CCA

    105 RC Minutes.

What type of charger should I be using ? I have a chargers from Crappy tire, and it charges my starting motor fine. But it seems to take quite a while to charge the big deep cycles. 7-8 hours

It has will go up to 12 amps. What should you charge these batteries at ?

    thanks

  14. do not transport them as you may be introducing the rusty crayfish to waters its not yet invaded !!!!!! grrrr and its illegal to posses them,so will you know for sure any of them wont be a rusty if you have a dozen or so in the bucket !!!!!! ......... :wallbash::devil:

So if I catch them on the body of water I'm fishing them on..... and I happen upon one of these "rusty crayfish" .... wouldn't they already be established in the habitat ?

My catching and using them for bait isn't adding to the problem at that point.

  15. Hey guys

Im at work right now... odly enough the MNR wedsite is blocked, and not OFC :thumbsup_anim:

haha I wanted to check the regs to see if it is legal to use crayfish as live bait ?

Im fishing lake st.clair ..... we were planning on trying to trap a few and see how the smallie fishing is with them ?

If I CAN do it..... whats the best way to trap crays ?

    thanks
