bingo!, in the dialogue they mentioned Deseronto, not all people with a status card look native

With N95 masks in limited supply worldwide, Sunnybrook is developing and testing an alternative form of the personal protective equipment using a modified full-face snorkel mask, should the need arise.

“This is an unprecedented time that is highlighting the need for innovative solutions to the challenges health-care workers are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Dr. Brian Courtney, a cardiologist, engineer and scientist at Sunnybrook.

Dr. Courtney is working with engineer and interventional cardiologist fellow at Sunnybrook, Dr. Brian Li. Both are leading teams of engineers, entrepreneurs and physicians in developing and testing the N95 alternative, as well as tie-back surgical masks that can be made in-house.

The masks will only be used if their safety and effectiveness can be ensured through aggressive testing and only in the event that our supply runs out.

These projects were also made possible thanks to a community of generous donors, including Canadian Tire and its Product Development Team for their support and gift of 1,100 full-face snorkel masks.

Chris Brock a little late to the party I'd say, Canada already moved all their masks to china, then bought all they could back at 30x the cost when the pandemic they welcomed in started to propagate

      • Geoff Warwick But Chris, what I see here is a new tech that Sunnybrook is trying to create and use for current and future needs.

"Dr. Courtney is working with engineer and interventional cardiologist fellow at Sunnybrook, Dr. Brian Li. • Geoff Warwick So Chris, we all (from OFC/OFC) have mutual friends and I really think guys like Youngone aka Will Chen who was born and raised in China and loves Canada more than most born here. His family runs a resort catered to fishing and family fun. Others like Kevin too might take offense had you said these things on the fishing site. Take a moment, put the phone down and re-think some of your comments please.

  3. I think it's going to be a disaster Rob. Lots of outfitters will get screwed and lose their shirt.

Things were booming before this virus. I know 1 up and coming outfitter that just went all in and paid a lot of money to buy some solid camps, bad timing, I hope they can make it through this.

I've got friends that own a Water Depot in Oakville, they're basically screwed unless the gov't introduces something new, something that us taxpayers will eventually pay for...

    it's just an ugly mess

    Hey guys, two things:

Thing #1:  I was communicating with Mike Borger when his son got kicked out of the river on Saturday.  Mike instant messaged me on Monday to say that the cops finally called him back on the phone, and informed him that the riverbed is owned by the GRCA, which is closed.  Mike deleted the post from Facebook, which was mostly supportive, but of course had posts by the usual vocal minority "haters"

My interpretation:  The cop was likely correct to the letter of the law, even if he didn't know it at the time. I bet they searched a long time to find the excuse.  Most likely Brandon was standing in the river opposite a closed park, and I bet the cop thought he entered there, rather than having waded upstream a mile from the Legion. Rivers are navigable waterways, so if Brandon had been fishing from a canoe, he might have been [legally] OK, at least if he weren't anchored to the riverbed or tied up to a tree in the river!  Ha!  The cops won that round, by luck.

Thing #2:  Has ANYONE HERE been tooled by the cops for fishing  or driving up north to go fishing?  Tooled = stopped on the highway, turned around, issued a citation, hassled in any away or prevented from fishing?  Not looking for hearsay, I want personal experience.  if so, why and what happened?  This is a Fishing forum, and I want to go fishing next week!  And yes, a photo of the ticket by buddy's buddy above will work!

Thing #3:  OK, I lied....    Has anyone here had personal communication with any cops for any reason regarding fishing now?  A phone call, text, conversation with a cop?  Not hearsay, but personal conversation? I've had two so far.

My interpretation:  Non-essential travel is "not recommended". They are "asking" us to stay at home, municipalities up north are "requesting" we don't go up there fishing. So far as I can understand, there is no LAW saying we can't travel to go fishing. There is NO non-essential travel BAN in Ontario so far as I can tell.  Even Premier Doug Ford says we can go fishing. Crown Land is closed to camping, and campfires are banned everywhere in Ontario.

The OPP has the video up on Facebook - linked a few pages upstream of here, upside-down but like the audio still sounds OK, eh? - which specifically addresses misinformation on social media - they are not tooling drivers.

I spoke to two OPP cops on ATV's on Saturday afternoon riding along right beside the Grand River in Brantford - moments before I messaged Mike, and only a few miles upstream of Brandon's episode! - and they said absolutely I could go fishing, here or anywhere.  I could drive up north with my canoe on my car, and I wouldn't be hassled or stopped or anything.  I queried them at length. They were unambiguous. They said that there were tons of false rumours on social media, in particular Facebook, that were simply not true. Go fishing, the cops told me!

On an unrelated matter [don't ask, sheesh], I asked a different OPP cop via phone and text the same question today.   He texted me something along the lines of, "I would consider fishing non-essential travel and I would write you a ticket" or words to that effect.  I deleted the text, you know, just in case...  Ahem.

I do intend to go fishing next week up north of the Soo, although it is mostly a climbing trip. I figure I will be bear bait with a canoe on top of my vehicle.  It just so happens that I am a financial advisor who sells funds, RRSPs and life insurance - considered essential - so I think I will throw a few Canada Life segregated fund apps into my briefcase, along with some business cards, you know, to make it look like I am actually working. Which everyone who knows me I never do.

If they write me a ticket, I will fight it, for sure.

Next week should be an adventure, it always is with me.  I'll report back here.  I'd love to hear yous guys' replies to the above.

    Cheers, eh?
    Pete

P.S. to any "haters" - really?  There can't be any haters in this forum, can there?  ;) I verily believe I can socially isolate a helluva lot better up north while climbing and fishing on a deserted cliff or lake, than I can in any routine visit to the grocery or beer store. You may disagree.  I will not need a rescue, with any luck. I have cheated death high above and deep beneath the earth for over 40 years without ever having been rescued, though I have nearly died quite a few times. [I confess my prideful sin, sorry]  And if I were to get sick, I would turn around and drive to the hospital in Hamilton, I wouldn't be going to any little hospital in northern Ontario, like the northern municipalities continually fear might happen. Like, seriously - who would? Think about it....

I don't post stuff I don't believe to be true.

If you want a picture of a ticket, bet me a case of beer I can't get a picture of a ticket?

The cops have been picking off cottagers and non essential travelers, but your odds of getting stopped are slim. I just went back to the city for a night and coming back up the 400 today it was busy, guys towing boats, ATVs, enclosed trailers, utility trailers with lumber, it's obvious these guys aren't essential travelers but the hwy was loaded with them this afternoon

  5. I listened to a radio interview today with the mayor of Algonquin Highlands

a couple interesting things- boat launches are open, it sounded like partly because they don't have the resources to sign, block off and enforce, but they're open

-marinas are deemed non essential and must stay closed, 1 marina has requested police presence for this weekend because some of the owners of the stored boats there are getting ornery and making threats, lol

  6. 23 hours ago, Woodsman said:

And the ticket would only say it was for violate an order under the current laws.

And I should believe you because "he talked to them" when the OPP are stating otherwise?

IIRC you've been the one telling everyone to stay at home but somehow justifying why your at your cottage.

    I don't write stuff I don't believe is true.

If you're confident I'm full of crap, bet a $100 and I'll do the leg work and try to get a picture of a ticket?

I heard more of the story today- 3 groups of cottagers who knew each other, headed to the same  place, driving in separate cars, the cop pulled over 1 of the cars and the other 2 cars also stopped, the cop nailed the 2 drivers who refused to return to their primary residence

you don't recall correctly, I'm not telling anyone anything, I'll say it again, I'm at my cottage for the last 6 weeks because I feel it's safer and more enjoyable for my family and I, and my family is far more important than what incompetent politicians like doug ford say

How you knew they were flying squirrels is beyond me Chris.

I didn't know what the little pink things I was looking at were OI, my wife noticed skin from the arms to the legs and figured it out, the mom looks like a short, fat red squirrel, more brown than red with big black eyes and a bushy dark tail, I've seen them gliding down to bird feeders at night

I probably stuffed this whole thing up too, but at least we tried and put in some effort, I think it shows an appreciation for nature and life

  8. 11 hours ago, Woodsman said:

Sounds like another "I was told by a buddy who was told by a buddy" story especially since the OPP have stated they are not doing this.

no, he talked to each of them directly, he runs a small marina/ boat storage operation thing

if you want to back up your opinion with a wager, $100 or whatever, I'll post a picture in a week of a $750 ticket from hwy 35 from one of these cottagers?

Also how In the hell did she getting inside the cowling?!

I looked closer, at the top and back of the the cowl, where you would put your hand to pull up and tilt the motor or take the cowl off, it's not a direct passage but it's not sealed off

easy access for critters who can squeeze through small gaps

mine's a Yammi too, maybe check your V Max Akri too when you go to store it

I am trying to paint a target on a system that failed to protect people who can't protect themselves. Not the workers themselves. But in my opinion, the only way to prevent, or at least lessen the impact of another pandemic, is to limit travel.

That's my opinion too. From the WHO right on down, federal, provincial, and all the so called expert advisors, total incompetence, resulting in thousands of lives needlessly lost

I talked to, from a distance, a busy body guy who lives up here in Haliburton and knows a lot of cottagers, he's heard of 3 incidents of cops pulling over cottager's cars on hwy 35 and telling them to go home, 2 refused and got $750 tickets

update? what did you end up doing Chris?

    Akri, I'll nutshell it, lol

-built a birdhouse with a hinged roof from materials laying around

-took the cowl off, momma blasted out to the closest tree

-I put the nest and Wuhan etc into the birdhouse and tacked it to a nearby tree, 15' up

-I watched from a social distance, momma came back, sniffed around the outboard, then just sat there frozen, for a long time, not moving and didn't seem to notice the house that was close by

-I moved back in, she scared off, I took down the house and bungied it to the out board and watched from a social distance

-she came back, sniffed around, then went into the house, I left

-the next day I wanted to see if she was tending Wuhan and Huawei etc or had abandoned the whole thing, I opened the roof but couldn't see or hear anything coming from inside because of all the dried grass and crap for the nest, I used a stick to open the nest and she rocketed out, bounced off me and went somewhere

-I moved the house from the outboard to the closest tree, 8' up

-the next day I checked the house and again she was in there and exploded out

now I'm done and won't check it anymore

Do some of you feel that there are true "naturals" in the sport of fishing or do you feel hard work will always take precedence?

I do feel there are some true naturals, I've known a few, and for some guys, even with hard work, fishing will always be just drowning worms, that's fine though, this is a hobby for enjoyment, not a competition

there are also guys who don't post much, if anything online, that can smoke those true naturals who post stuff

  13. I talked to a cottage neighbor, from a distance,

he got pulled over on the 400, the cop asked where you headed?, it was obvious the way the car was packed and the kids in the back, he said going to the cottage

the cop said no, turn around, head back home

he said, we have all our supplies, there's no travel ban, sorry but I'm going

the cop said here's a $750 ticket, have a good weekend, lol
