  1. I need to get a lifejacket for an infant (3 month old less than 20lbs). Does anyone have a suggestion? I was looking at getting a Naya one, but can't find anywhere that they are in stock. Thanks for your help.
  2. Deer Creek will not let you on the water with a gas motor on your boat. I know this first hand.
  3. Thank you. I figured as much.
  4. When I bought my boat from the US, it came with life jackets. They say that they are approved by the US Coast Guard. Am I able to use them in Canadian waters? Or do I need ones approved my Canadian Coast Guard? I have some of both, but just want to know if I should give them away to some family members in the USA or keep them on my boat. Thanks!
  5. I picked up the boat for $8500 US ($9100 Canadian w/ converting). I paid $1100 taxes at the border for boat and trailer and then another $50 taxes at the motor vehicle office. You have to pay $250 to get your trailer inspected at Canadian tire. And probably $100 for gas to get to Michigan and back. All in I probably spent about $10,500. Not cheap, but a heck of a lot cheaper than I could get a similar one in Canada. I could probably sell my boat right now in Canada for about 13,000+.
  6. Hi there. I am not sure if my boat (05' Alumacraft Navigator CS) requires a ladder or not, but I don't want to risk it. I think it will be close to the 1' 8" limit once it is in the water (Have yet to get it out). Does anyone know where I can get a fold up ladder that goes over the side of the boat around the Hamilton or Welland area. I know Canadian Tire has one, but it looks like a cheapie and is 69.99, which isn't too cheap. I want something decent, but don't want to spend a lot on it because it won't get used a lot. Thanks!
  7. Just picked up a boat from the USA. It is a 2005 Alumacraft Navigator 165CS w/ a 2005 75HP Evinrude E-tec. The boat is a 16' 7" side console wide body. I have completed all the necessary paper work and the boat is "official". Now I am looking at getting it insured. I'm just curious as to what others pay for a similiar boat to get insured. I called my current car/house insurance company and they quoted me around $300 for the year w/ a $200 deductible. Does this seem reasonable? I will call a few places (any recommendations?) to get some comparative quotes. Thanks for any help.
  8. I bought a boat from the US. I paid for all of my taxes, got the trailer inspected... Everything is good to go, however I have not had the boat ownership transferred over at a service Canada centre and have not officially picked up plates for my trailer yet (I am going to do it first thing in the morning). Right now there is a Michigan plate on the trailer. 2 Questions: Can I transfer the plates from my old boat/trailer on to the new boat/trailer? Also, can I take the boat out without going to a service canada centre and getting my canadian numbers? I am hoping to take my son out tomorrow morning and don't want to ruin our day. Thanks a lot for your help.
  9. Not sure of that spot, but I think I know of it. I like to fish by the bridges, specifically the last bridge that crosses to a park (I think).
  10. When I worked at Wildwood, I would fish the St. Marys area every now and again. If you hit it at the right time, the pike are dynamite there. Hook on a spinner and hold on. There are some slammers in there, but they get fished out real fast once the word gets out. I've seen a few nice bass caught in the "pike" pool as well. I never really walked the river much, but I bet if you did some searching you could find some real killer spots from St. Marys to Stratford on the Thames.
  11. I enjoyed my stay there when I was there 2 years ago. I caught a lot of fish... If you want to destroy fish (bass, pike, and BIG perch just go to the reeds in quiet bays and use yellow grubs). The perch will probably have worms in them, but you will catch some monsters. You will catch fish all day long, but lots of pike. If you want walleye or bass, then that isn't the place to stay. Very shallow, so be careful in the boat. Although I enjoyed my stay, I doubt I would go back. It is not very kid friendly. Lots and lots of bugs...
  12. Can someone give me a heads up on approximately how much a 14' fibreglass boat with a 35 HP Mercury on a homemade trailer would fetch? I bought a new boat and want to get rid of it quickly, but am not going to give it away. Just a general idea would be fine... The motor is an older model Merc, but it runs fine. All it needs is a water pump, which was ordered, and it will run fine. Everything works fine on the boat, but it could probably use some minor cosmetic work. If pictures will give a better idea, then I can take a few pictures. Thanks!
  13. That place looks familiar. Looks like a prime smallie area. Is in a town with 2 names near Stratford?
  14. Fight should have been called. They called one earlier in the card that wasn't even as bad as that.... Carwin got robbed. When Brock got up, I knew it was over. Carwin was gassed and Lesnar looked normal.
  15. I do like the Princecraft for sale, but it is a 7 year old boat and motor which makes me leery. It looks well maintained, but it is still 7 years old and the motor is a 50 HP 2 stroke... I've seen a few packages online for a little bit more that come with newer motors with more HP. I saw a nice special for a Mirrocraft w/ a 60HP E-Tec for around 14k excluding extras. The problem with that is that it says limited quantities, so I am sure no one has one. I've thought about the US route. Why wait until the fall? Also, any suggestions on where to look for US boats for sale? I don't mind going to NY or PA since I have family in PA and live close to NY. Thanks for all the tips guys. I am leaning towards used since I can get more bang for my buck, however I don't get a warranty.
  16. I am looking in to buying a boat. I am not sure if I should be looking in to a new boat or if I should look at buying a used boat. I am looking at possibly getting a 2010 Legend 151 Angler or Legend 16 Xcite. Any suggestions? I would only be getting a 20 or 25 HP motor with those packages, which I would like something a little bigger to go on some of the bigger waters (Erie). Also, is it worth it to buy the premium packages? Or I might consider the 16 XGS if it is a lot better of a deal (it comes with a 50 HP). I am looking at spending around 12,000 (financing of course - or PLC, but if the deal is good enough, then I would spend more). I am hoping to get a complete package (fish finder, bow mount trolling motor, etc...) Any suggestions on where to look? I have tried Ebay and Kijiji and haven't seen a ton of good deals. There is a 2004 Princecraft Starfish on sale at Hully Gullys which looks good, but is it a deal for 8,790? I am not too sure. If anyone could give me some advice on making my boat purchase, please help me out. I am hoping to pick one up asap so I can avoid the HST. Thanks!
  17. I'm just wondering if maybe someone with a little motor knowledge could give me a little help. I made a mistake and overestimated my memory when taking apart my Mercontrol unit. Now I can't remember exactly what goes where. I have an idea, but maybe someone can shed a little more light on this so I don't go throwing things in reverse. The motor is a 1965 Mercury 350 35HP. I think I have determined that this piece attaches to the throttle cable. The little black lever is used for cold starting. That lever moves that thing in the middle when everything is connected. What I am wondering is what position it is currently in? Is the throttle activated when that screw with the little black cap is up against the unit, or is it not? This piece goes in the middle of the control box. This piece is for the shifting cable. I was wondering if there is any way to tell where neutral is either from this piece, or some other way. I can manually pull the cables out which control the shifting mechanism, so it isn't hard to set it. When I attach everthing and pull the lever, it moves this piece. I am assuming this controls forward, neutral, and reverse. Now I attempted to manually pull the cable and see if i can determine where neutral was. Would pulling it all the way out be considered max forward? Or am I way off base here. I think I am close to figuring out what goes where, but need to determine where my neutral is and where my cold start needs to be when fully down. Thanks for any help. If you need any more info, please don't hesitate to ask.
  18. Where can I pick this stuff up from around the Dunnville area? (I tried Partsource, Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, and Princess Auto in the Hamilton area all without luck today). I hear Napa sells the stuff. Can anyone confirm where it is definitely located? Thanks!
  19. I'm hoping to take my boat out Monday to Long Point for some bass fishing weather permitting. Anyone want to give me some advice on where to head out to and launch? I am coming from Dunnville and currently have to rely on my 55lb MinnKota as my motor until my 35HP Merc gets fixed. So, I don't want to go anywhere where it will take a long time to get to with my motor. I'll be bringing my wife and son, so I hope to be able to get into some fish for them. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  20. Looking to get my outboard serviced. I am located in Dunnville, but Riverside said that they have a bit of a back log for fixing motors (plus they don't really like doing the older models). Can anyone recommend someone around the Niagara or Hamilton area? Thanks!
  21. Looking to pick up a trolling motor for my 14' fibreglass. I can pick up a Minn Kota Endura Transom Mount - Endura 55 36" for $230 ($292 after taxes and shipping). How hard is this motor on batteries? I'm thinking of picking up a Deep Cycle battery from either Costco or Wal-Mart. Should I just go with a 30 or 40 lb thrust Endura from Canadian Tire? The 40 is about the same price as the 55, with the 30 being about $80 cheaper. Opinions??? Or should I pick up a kicker motor? I have a co-worker who said he'd sell me a 9.9HP Viking for $150. Is that a good deal? Thanks guys! Also, I forgot to ask if anyone knows of the fellow in Port Colborne who services motors? I went to the Riverside Marina in Dunnville, but they have a long wait, so I want to explore my other options. They had mentioned someone in Port Colborne who works out of this garage. Thanks!
  22. Do you need it installed? Or are you doing it yourself?
  23. Definitely the back box. If I use a test light on the 4-wire plug from the jeep, even with it turned off, it produces power. I touched the ground to the white wire and the light to the green (Light). I touch the ground to the green and the light to the white (Light). It seems like the ground and green have become the same wire. I've blown 2 fuses so far with this harness. I'm going to contact the place I bought it from and see what they say. I just might end up contacting Chrysler and getting the one they offer. Thanks for all your help guys. It's appreciated.
