  1. Yup, same stuff goin' on up here GCD with the rain and warm temps that have melted tons of snow, the rivers are pretty gruesome right now. A lot of us are hunkered down and waiting for 'em to clear. Oh well, at least we can live vicariously through posts like yours! Nice job!

But you failed to give us the obligatory 'supper' shot! lol

  2. Original is my absolute favorite. So easy and simple, just coat wet fillets with it and you're done.

Now for DEEP frying, I'd encourage anyone to try the Beer Batter. Again, really simple, just the product mixed with a little beer and it's done. When deep frying, remember to pat the fillets as dry as possible first and that way the batter sticks to the fillets. Oil has to be nice and hot too.

    Mmmmmmmmmm

  3. I too would like to thank everyone for their reviews. I saw it a couple days ago displayed at Canadian Tire and thought it would be a good purchase because it could fit in my small car truck and looked perfect for a solo ice angler.

Sounds like it's a good design concept but executed with poor materials. I'll pass.

  4. Well it ain't hog callin' GCD!

    lol

Yup, besides opening up presents, the World Juniors is my favorite part of the season too, Misfish. I remember watching years ago when the Canadians were never favoured. Man, have times changed.

Too bad we have to endure Pierre Maguire throughout. His ramblings are pretty annoying.

  5. For years, I'd pack my 8-inch auger when heading up to Lake Simcoe for perch. But as the icefishing season draws on and the ice gets thicker, man, did my back ever start to complain. lol

Now, with a 6-inch auger, I move around more and drill more holes cuz it's waaaaay easier.

If I was fishing in laker and whitefish water, ya I'd want an 8-inch, but 6-inch is just fine for perch.

Just be carefull when you get 'em close to the hole though. I slow down my retrieve a bit so I can make sure the fish doesn't head away from the hole cuz the lure hooks can catch onto the edge of the ice hole on the way up. I loose more perch that way!

  6. I know this is an old post but I missed it first time 'round and wanted to give you my 2-cents, John.

First, I loved your scenery shots. Nice composition and some nice looking water that makes me wish I was there!

I have the same problem you do since I do most of my river fishing alone and am limited to the type of shots I can take of my fish.

I do like you do; lip the fish for the "open mouth shot." What you can do too( if the fish co-operates )is to hold it in your palm and take a broad body pic before your release it. Just gives ya another 'look.'

The scenery shots are great because they help you remember your day and EVERYone, especially your non-fishing friends, will enjoy natural scenery.

I have a cheaper Canon powershot that I don't mind stuffing in my fishing vest or tackle box. If it gets a bit beat-up or slimy from my fingers after handling a fish, it's ok. Or if the unthinkable happens and it falls in the drink, I won't be TOO angry cuz it won't cost me TOO much to replace.

If you have a photoshop program with your camera that's good because you don't have to worry too much about framing your shot perfectly as you're taking the pic, since you can always crop it nicely later. And you can enhance some colours and the brightness, too, if you choose.

Anyhoo, keep at it cuz I hear they like pictures here...

    lol

  7. I can actually relate to your experience JMahon. Last winter on Simcoe I was jigging a little #2 Jiggin' Rap with 3 1/2 pound test and hooked into a pike. Man, when that reel starts to peel, you really hold your breath, eh! Everything has to work out just right.

So what was the size of the hole you drilled? 6-inch? That usually becomes a bit of a trick too!

  8. I'm setting aside some time later on at home too just to enjoy fully your tales and pics, Moosebunk. I guess that's why I don't buy fishing mags anymore. lol

Tremendous advertures, Moosebunk, and I just wonder how you're able to get it all in!

Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. Wow!

  9. Like him or not, Sean Avery is a valuable player to any team in the league, idiot or not.

The Dallas Stars owner doesn't think he's that valuable. He agrees with the suspension and said if the league DIDN'T suspend him, the team would have! Most sports bundents I've been listening too say they'd be suprised if Avery plays another game for the Stars.
