  1. Where can I find a canoe like that? I used to have a 12' cedar/canvass with a Minn Kota variable speed on it. Problem is I can't remember the model or the thrust rating on it. Whatever I get will definitely be a variable speed and I always have the paddles for backup. I have never been up a creek without a (spare) paddle.
  2. I plan on using the canoe when I tow my camper. Can't tow the boat at the same time. I plan on using the battery from the camper during the day and the camper can charge it at night, so weight of the battery is not much of an issue for me.
  3. I'm curious myself. I have a 14ft square stern that I was going to buy a motor for in the spring.
  4. I've never had much luck ice fishing Ramsey. CPR bay is supposed to be a hot spot. I think there are too many people that live close to town that can't fish except for where they can take the bus. I did good for a few years in a row fishing in front of Science North before the boardwalk went in. Fished from about 9:30 till midnight. Got limits most days for a few weeks until the bite slowed down in mid June. If you are planning to hit Nepawhin, don't plan on eating any of the fish. Check out the MOE Guide to Eating Sportfish for details.
  5. I tried 50# Berkeley Vanish a few years ago when I was fishing a lot of pike. Never had one bite off., Never lost a leader to a snag. I was also using 50# Power Pro braided line. Usually I would either pull out the tie ring or straighten out the hook(s). I stopped using it on a regular basis because the lake I have been fishing the last two years is filled with hammerhandles and eater walleyes with the odd smallmouth thrown in. I use 20# uncoated sevenstrand wire leaders now that are brown in colour. With the stained water and many weeds, the fish don't seem to notice the leader. I liked using the flouro leaders at the time, because they were more flexible and less visible than wire. I just tied them to the snap and swivel using the Trilene knot.
  6. I,ve got the same outboard, but a '99. My pump failed and filled the carbs with oil over the winter. I ran a hose between the inlet and outlet of the pump so it recirculates inside itself. I then bought a hose connector from Crappy Tire and hooked the two fuel lines together. I have been running 100:1 pre-mix for the last two years with no probs yet. I also left the oil tank half full so I don't get the low-oil alarm.
