Is florocarbon leader REALLY better than mono leader?
Bernie66 replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
It all depends on the type of presentation and water clarity. If you are presenting a horizontal moving lure going for a reaction strike then fluoro isn't necessary. But if you are drifting under a float in frog water and the water clarity is more then a foot then it can make all the difference in the world. When the guy next to you using a fluoro leader outfishes you 5-1 then you will learn. -
Crappy Tire with 1000 yds Trilene XL on sale??? SURE!!! They probably have 2 spools per store, one 4lb and the other 20lb. They are always out of stock on the things you want. BIG SCAM IMO!!! P.S. I am still waiting for a call back on my raincheck for an ice-sled. I wonder when hell is going to freeze over.

Just ask youself if the fish have time to detect your line. If it is a horizontal presentation to ilicit a split second reaction strike from the fish then fluoro isn't necessary. i.e. ripping cranks threw weeds for bass, spinners or spoons in river for trout. If it is a slower presentation and the fish has time to examine you lure then fluoro is absolutely a must. i.e. worming for bass on a weedline or float fishing for steelies. Water clarity is a factor but only secondary to the way you are fishing.

I only use it when I connect my leader to my main line (back to back Uni Knot). Just a dab with a toothpick and any dollar store superglue will do. When you tie directly to a hook or a lure, you don't really need glue. Just learn to tie a proper knot. (palomar, trilene, uni etc.)

They do sell crappies in the Chinese markets. That's how you know they are running heavy in Rice and Simcoe and they sell for $8.99 a pound, $10.99 for the live ones.

Those bass are most likely from a fish farm. They hardly ever vary in size, always between 1-2lbs. You see them in almost every Chinese supermarkets and restaurants in the GTA. If you don't believe me, go check it out yourself. I asked a guy at the counter once and he told me they were all from some fish farm down in the states. If you think about it, where would they get so many bass in the middle of winter and all in the same size slot???

Hey BigGuy. Come to think of it, there is a good review on Fluoro-clear on tackletour.com. Just go to their line section. There are reviews on many brandname lines including braids, plus a fantastic write up on the full spectrum of fluorocarbons available including scientific test result. (Not personal opinions Ha! Ha!) Good Luck.

The nerve of those evil tackle companies. Braid has been out since the late 80s and they are still trying to sell us those plastic lines after all these years. And those hicks on the pro bass tour, I heard some still uses fibreglass rods and stretchy monos lines for their crankbaits. What about those guy on the PWT, they still use monos for their live bait rods. Finally there are fishing legends like Al Linder, he still suggests using mono for jigs when fishing for walleyes, he must be going senile. LOL. Seriously, specific applications needs specific lines. I have nothing against braids. I use them when I need long distance hook sets, for cutting threw weeds and deep water applications. To suggest using superbraid for a newbie is just nasty. I know I won't change Garry's opinion and that is fine. To each his own. To the newbies who decide to go superbraid without getting your basic knowledge down first. Remember Garry when: -you try to free that stubborn snag by yanking on the rod and the bail of your reel breaks off or the rod literally explodes in your hand. -better yet explaining to the doctor in the ER how you sliced you hand open by pulling on your line to free that same snag. -or finding a piece of the lips of that lunker on your hook after losing it at boat side because your drag was set too tight. Trust me all of the above can and does happen regularly, that is why almost all the pros at the seminars suggest monos for beginner because it is a more forgiving line. Well, this has been fun. No hard feelings and good fishing everyone.

WOW! Telling a novice all he need is braid and a fluoro leader is some great advice. A newbie probably wouldn't even know how to connect the two properly. There is a time and a place for everything. Braids are great for some applications but by no means the magic line for everything. If that was the case, there wouldn't be any monos hanging on the store shelves. Why would any company spend millions each year to produce a product that is obsolete to their customers.

Thanx, smbhunter. I double checked with them, the sale in T.O. starts March 6. My Bad.

P-line is a good line, like most of the other premium lines on the market. It is a matter of personel preference. There is no magic bullet. Most brands give you a choice of a limp line i.e. Trilene XL, Sufix Elite, and an abrasion resistance line i.e Trilene XT, Sufix Siege. In general the limp line has less memory and handles better on spinning reels. The abrasion resistance lines has a protective coating, giving it more memory and handles better on baitcasting reels. Memory also depends on the age of the line and the temperature at which it is used. When the temp is close to zero, everyline out there has bad memory. You can spray it down with some of the silicone conditioner out on the market, they really help. Another thing that people complain about is line-twist. No line is immune to it. It is inherent to the reel you use and the lures you have on the end of the line. Spinning reels twist your line everytime you retrieve and each time line is pulled off against the drag. Floatreels will give you line twist if you side cast. Spinners and spoons will twist your line when you use them without a good swivel. So no one line on the market twist less than another. Just make sure when you put new line on your reel you do it properly. I am amazed at how many people who fished for many years still don't know how to spool lines. Finally if someone find that magic bullet, please PM me. (And don't tell me it's braid, that is another topic altogether)

Float Fishing Main Line- You opinion one more time!
Bernie66 replied to baironhorse's topic in General Discussion
Sufix, Siglon ,Gamma ,P-line, etc are all good lines. Break strength is always higher than what is on the spool. Typically 8lb test will break between 12-15lb strength and your lighter fluoro leader should break way before that. -
The BPS sale starts on FEB 27 and goes for 3 wks. Go to their site for more details. They do this every year to get a head start on the Sportsman Show so you can dump your money there instead of the show.

C.T. sold that Plano softsided tackle bag for 10 bucks last year. I think it was the Canada day sale??? You really have to be carefull, the same stuff gets put on sale over and over again, some times at a different price. Another example is that cordless screw driver they have on sale from time to time. I've seen it range from a low of $9.99 to 14.99, exact same product code.
-
Its typical C.T. Bull. There is absolutely nothing decent on sale in the fishing department. A couple of crap combos that I wouldn"t even give to my 7 year old to use. I did end up buying a good frying pan for $12, 70% off. LOL.

I posted a similar comlaint on another board. I got to the store at 7:30am Saturday, just as it opened. There were none in stock. They checked their computer and there was ONE sled in stock for all of their twenty some odd stores in all of the GTA. When I ask for a raincheck they said they might not even get anymore in because it is a SEASONAL product. My question is, what the hell kind of season do they think we are in? Winter has only just started. I phoned customer relations at their head office this morning and it was like talking to wall. I guess CRAPPY TIRES will be CRAPPY TIRES. No wonder they are losing out to the big American chain stores. I want to shop canadian but C.T. should learn to treat their customers with more respect. Here is a good example, if you go to BEST BUY to purchase a TV that they had advertised and it is not in stock, they give you a 10% discount plus free delivery to you door.

What special boxing deal did you get?
Bernie66 replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
The Simms wader is a good deal at BP for $150. I got home, searched online and they are going for around $250US on average. For those of you that froze your a$$ waiting outside for the store to open, next time wait at their mall entrance where it is nice and warm. They actually opened the mall entrance before they opened their front entrance today.
