Will you put more CO's out there in the field protecting our resources? Will you make sure they have gas in their trucks to do their jobs? (incase you did not know... They can not afford gas for regular patrols)

Never mind that, she, as the Minister of Transport, would like to have all comercial vehicles restricted to a maximum of 105 kph. Does that mean the gold and brown MNR company trucks carrying the CO's can only do 105 to chase down poachers???

So far since I've moved to my new place in London about 2 1/2 yrs ago Theres been the typical urban wildlife which I've spied in my back yard. Critters like the skunk family I had to evict from under my shed about 2 weeks after we moved in, plenty of squirrels, bunnies, one old possum, a few raccoons from time to time, a coyote(not technically in my yard but I almost ran it down late one night less than a block away) One chipmunk seen only twice on the same day. Countless types of birds including a red tail hawk.

What we saw out there yesterday totally blew us away...

Peregrine Falcon!!!!!!!

Couldn't believe my eyes. I watched it land on my canoe, with a small critter(half of one anyway), I went to the other room to get my camera when I came back, It had moved to a large rock on my fire pit. It must have seen us in the window because it took off from there into the neigbours tree, while the camera was powering on. We watched it through a pair of binoculars for about 5 mins while it picked at its meal before it left.

Who would have thunk it smack in the middle of a city of 360,000 people (and this late in the year for that matter.)

An honest 18 /20 But I have had most of the bait fish types in an aquaruim at one time or another. If I had my native species of Ontario book with me I could have cheated!

best part is, out of all the years we've done this, I don't think a single musky has been caught by anyone. Someone will be a hero one of these times.

D'oh! He just turned 6 2 weeks ago and has been doing it since he was 3! Hmmm, 24-6= 18 more years, then again the daughter is still only 4 months old so I bet I can still outfish her for a few more years.

Here's some pics of our summer vacation out north of Kingston this past August. Had some issues with my camera so I ended up bringing most of the fish back to the beach in the livewell for a quick photo after which they were all released (alive!)

I seem to recall that a 500-600lber washed up dead on the New York side of the Niagara River a year or two ago.

Ok here's the story, I'm away on vacation and have a tube dropped to the bottom for bass, I happen to look down in the water and see this floating by

So I scoop it up in a bucket and bring it back to the cottage, transfer it to a cleaned out spaghetti sauce jar and plan to bring it by the university when I get home a few days later. Watched it eat a few mosquito larvae in the meantime (really cool) Ended up talking to a friend who is in charge of the Invading Species Hotline. She was able to identify it for me and said it was very rare but not unheard of in Ontario, just a handfull of reported sightings, and a native species to boot! Kinda neat to capture a very rare thing!

I'll try and post a pic of it when I get some free time. My brother sent me this wikapedia entry he found on it.

Went out to Port Glasgow this morning with the neighbour across the street who has a big boat that can handle the waves that my little one can't. The wind was Ok on the trip out but picked up for about 2 hours and then died right out later on just before a light shower rolled in. We were trolling by about 8:30am in about 55fow 30'-40' down. Ended up out as far as 67fow. We started out with small spoons and ended up switching to larger ones after some slow action. purple, orange and watermelon were the best producing colours. We went 6 for 7 on walleye and 1 for 2 on rainbows. The big bow we lost jumped about 15 times after it snapped the line trying to get the hook out. (kinda cool to see!) Only got one sheephead and also about 6 silver bass. All done by about noon.

My neigbour and I made the drive down to Port Weller from London this morning to do some near shore trolling. After a couple of Timmies stops and a quick bathroom break we were on the water by 9am. Once we finally got the boat in the water at the municipal launch (a lot of pushing was involved) we reversed away from the ramp and proceeded to crunch the only underwater rock within miles with the prop. All 3 blades were bent but it didn't seem to affect the running of the boat but definetly must be changed (didn't notice the damage until later) Out to about 80' we headed and dropped the riggers and dipseys down between 35 and 55 feet.

After about an hour of no action and picking fleas and a few tangles out of our lines we finally got somewhat of a system going. Drop down dipsey #1, drop rigger #1, drop dipsey #2, drop rigger #2, trip and reel dipsey#1 and clean fleas off the line, trip and reel rigger#1 and clean fleas off the line, trip and reel dipsey#2 and clean fleas off the line, trip and reel dipsey#2 and clean fleas off the line. Repeat constantly! ( I need flea flicker line!)

First fish came in about 59fow, 49' down and on a blue NK behind a chrome flasher.

The next was just a small king about 2lbs (no pic) on the exact same setup but it hit after we had tripped the release to clean the line. About 65fow and 55' down.

We tried this spot because when I was out there about 3 weeks ago I managed one 30" laker

and had four breakoffs in the 2 hours I was out last time.

Once we got back to the launch it was a circus, jet skis everywhere and there was this guy who launched a catamaran and then proceeded to walk it about a quarter mile down the beach while his minivan and trailer blocked the ramp. At least there was some nice scenery on the beach to keep us ocuppied during the wait.(sorry no pics of that!)

Second lake you come to after Proulx L.( I don't have my map nearby) The frist stretch btween Proulx and big Crow is shallow and winding and not gnerally worth your time to fish, same as the narrows between big and little Crow. I agree with SoloPaddler, the further you get into the system the better the fishing gets. Try trolling spoons, spinners or jigging black, Purple or smoke coloured tubes or twister tails for best results.

Camp at the site just north of the rivermouth on Little Crow and paddle down to the first portage. There are lots of brookies near the logjam. Also try out the campsite as you round the point on Proulx Lake. Haven't been there in a number of years but they always seemed to have fish in those spots.

Tried to get him into a carp but that didn't work. He's always happy when he goes fishing. He did his senior kindergarten speech on fishing last month when other kids did theirs on Barbies, puppies or Spiderman.

He's had his own spinning rod(not a spincast) since he was 2 and can cast it on his own.

Favorite thing in the world is to go fishing.

Had new steering cable installed on an older Minnkota last month and was wondering if they need to be adjusted or tightened or lubed or greased or anything.... The motor seems to want to turn only one way when it's in the water. I can push the pedal forward and turn it but there seems to be nothing there when I push back(or the other way around sometimes). If I dry run it I get nearly a 360deg rotation. Always had a transom mount so I'm just not used to the ins and outs of that foot pedal. Am I doing something wrong or is it just a loose dohickey????
