  1. Hey Irishfield

This guy is a very close friend and I know he has been complaining about this engine for some time now.

Because he has been complaining about the noise, I am of the impression that they are assuming he has done it.

Nothing to my knowledge has been found specifically pointing at him

They removed the whole cab because that is how they re and re these engines.

All this is just coming third hand from my buddy.

He showed me pics on his phone of the cab hanging above the chassis, motor and drivetrain.

The plough wiring and receiver components were installed a couple of months ago and the truck has yet to lift it.

Western told him that the Ford Super Duty was the only truck they would recommend for this plough due to the truck

being able to handle the extra weight.

By the way, the cost to replace this motor is about $30,000. ouuuuuuch!!

  2. I have a close friend that purchased a $70,000 Super Duty with a 6.4 Turbo Diesel in it.

About a month or so ago he went into the dealership complaining that the engine was very loud, they told him it was normal for that engine.

He recorded the sound that the engine was making because he was pretty sure it was not right.

About two weeks ago, lo and behold the motor started to make a lot of really not nice noises and he brought it in right away.

They pulled the whole cab off the chassis and checked the engine. The final result is that the turbo blew apart and sent parts down into the engine which is now totally toast!!!

The final say from Ford is that they will not honour the warranty because they are saying it was purposely done, can you believe that.

This guy has trouble getting the hood open let alone finding a spot to put something into the turbo charger to do the engine in. I know that he

wouldn't even realize that you could do that to a motor and he is not the type to do that in any case.

This truck has 70,000 km on it and is barely broken in.

He doesn't know what to do, he owns a plowing and landscaping business and just had the truck outfitted with a $10,000 Western plough which has yet to be used.

Has anyone gone through this type of thing and what recourse does he have.

Hope someone here has some insight into this problem.

  3. Hey swordfish, congratulations on your new shotgun.

It must be driving you nuts to try it out.

I go to the Oshawa Gun Club and shoot traps or slugs.

You can also shoot high powered rifles at up to 300 yds at their rifle range.

You just have to tell them you are interested in joining and would like

    to shoot.

    Check this out http://www.ontarioskeet.com/clubs/Oshawa.html

Hopefully it's not too far for you to travel.

I used to go to the Cold Creek Gun Club but it has been shut down like so

    many others.

Be safe, have fun and good luck.

  4. Actually, it's one of the first things you should do with any floatsuit or PFD for that matter. Get yourself to an indoor pool somewhere (or outdoor pool or lake in warmer temps) and find out how it floats. The peace of mind is worth it. Don't forget, you could be unconscious when you hit the water.

I have to admit Roy that you make a very good point there.

I just don't see myself jumping into the water in my brand new suit just yet!!

Maybe when the novelty wears off a little. lol

  5. I was looking at the Helly Hansen also but I did find them heavier and more difficult to move in.

I bought the pricey Mustang Integrity also worst mistake I ever made was buying a yellow suit.

It is a comfortable suit. When you walk a far distance in the winter you will find out quickly how warm these suits are.

The board members have come up with many names for me ever since.

We expect many fishing reports now that you will be safer.

    MTP

Hirk's in Courtice had a HH but it was 2XL, a little too big for me.

When I held it up, it weighed about 50 percent more than the Mustang Integrity so I know you're right about that.

I don't know if heavier means warmer but there was a big difference in the two for sure.

I paid almost $500.00 for my suit and for that money I would hope it does more than just keep me warm.

Maybe it has magic fingers in the right area or something, I can only hope...

and by the way, I bought mine in red and black, just figured there was enough pumpkins on the ice last year. lol

  6. hopefully you never have to expect it to work....cant help ya out with the comfort level as im a HH kinda guy....oh and let me be the first to say ...bahhh humbug...but merry christmas anyways...lol...46 days will go by fast

...and a bahhh humbug to you too. lol

I was originally looking for a HH but couldn't get my hands on my size, there doesn't seem to be too many local places with stock.

I don't plan on using the keep dry feature either haha, I mostly got it for warmth.

  7. Well the wife asked me what I wanted for Xmas this year and I told her I wanted a survival suit for ice fishing.

After a lot of hunting and some help from the members here, we finally made a decision and bought one.

An early Xmas gift that I won't get to try for a while yet, I hope!!

She bought me a Mustang HX Integrity from Gagnon Sports. It was pretty expensive but I got to try it on and then she

put it away and said I can't see it again until Dec 25, bummer.

Anyone here have an HX that can tell me what to expect.

  8. Well, summer's over and winter is on it's way. I've decided to go into camp tomorrow and close it down for the year. I'll be up this winter on the sleds, but I like to take all my canned goods and anything else I don't want freezing out. Also I have to take my motors home and winterize the big generator. There's a few other odds and ends to clear up aswell. I hate this job so much...it's not that the job itself is hard or a pain in the neck...its just what it represents. I don't even want to think about how many weeks it will be between now and the next time I'll be throwing top-waters for chunky smallies. I wish I could hibernate until the 4th weekend in June. I keep thinking about a particular late morning this past August when I stopped fishing in the middle of a really hot bite because I was hungry and wanted to go back to camp to chow down. What a waste! I'd starve myself for a week if it meant I could be back there right now.

Ice fishing is fun...but let's face it, it doesn't compare to the heart pounding action of a really good top-water bite under a shinning sun. I feel like a crack addict facing months of rehab.

    I feel your pain.

I feel the same way every Sunday afternoon in the summer when I have to leave the cottage to come home. It really does suck!

  9. Congrats on the deer. Everyone thinks that hunting is like it is on the TV shows and thats bull crap. Not every deer is standing perfect broadside and a perfect shot made. In the real world there is running/ bounding/ un optimal shots but they can also get the job done. NICE BUCK :thumbsup_anim:

I guess it's a matter of who you are and how ethical you are when you hunt.

I personally would never shoot at a "running/bounding" deer.

Those shots are for the rednecks that are all about getting a deer on the meat pole no matter what the cost to the animal.

All my hunting partners pride themselves in the one shot one kill rule and none of them would ever make an "un optimal" shot as you call it.

  10. Just a question!

Where do you shoot a deer that is heading away from you?

Three shots, I have never shot a deer that took more than one shot and it was always in the mortal wound area.

If it took the deer two hours to expire, I would have to say that the shot should have been re-thought or passed on completely.

Looking at the pics tells me that the deer was shot somewhere in the haunch area and suffered a long and painful death.

Sorry to put a damper on your buck but I am surprised more hunters on this site have not spoken up already.

Firing a few shots at a paced off tree at up to 80 or 90 yds prior to the hunt would help this immensely IMHO.

Not trying to start a war, just think that hunters should try for the one well placed shot, one kill scenario.

  11. Correct me if i'm wrong but I think that demerit points are added onto your license not taken away and when you reach 9 you get a written warning.

At 15 you have to go and see someone who will whack your pee pee hard!

Also, if the cop gave out a bunch of tickets that same day, he has to show up to court to be present for all those tickets.

The chances of him not showing nowadays is pretty slim. IMHO

I don't go any more than 20 over and haven't had a ticket in 15 years. (touch wood)

    Good Luck all the same.

  12. I couldn't agree more. Goggle a phrase like "Wal-mart is evil" and spend a couple of minutes learning about the utter disregard Wal-mart has for everyone that stands in its way of making greater and greater profits. They stick it to everyone they come in contact with from their employees to their suppliers. Those low prices come at a high cost...and don't forget that once they've successfully undermined enough of their competition those competitive prices will give way to monopoly imposed gouging. Make no mistake, that is their ultimate goal.

Wal-mart is the perfect example of how corporations can generally not break any laws but still demonstrate how completely and utterly ammoral they truly are.

Moral highground aside, I've seen the fishing section and the walmart in Sudbury and it's a freaking joke. Pretty much all kid's stuff.

I feel exactly the same way about the Tim Hortons Monopoly, they knocked out all the Ma and Pa coffee places and now you can't go a block without running into a Timmies.

Watch the price increases fly, in fact didn't we just get hit another 10c a cup recently?

Monopolies like that cut down on our options as consumers and allows them to set the price wherever they like.

Sorry about Hi-Jacking your thread Hometownhandyman!!

Had to get it off my chest...

  13. Haha

    The wife is amazed.

She complained to me about not being able to find one of these suits and I told her "no worries honey, I'll just check with the members on OFC"

All the info and answers needed in about twenty minutes.

Where else can you get info on anything that quick. LOL

    Only here at OFC!!

Thanks guys for all your help.

  14. I did some work at Labatts about five years ago, we replaced the rails on the conveyors where the bottles are moving along with a product called Nylatron. I also installed it on an automation line that had 18 pound pallets banging against Nylatron blocks about 1 1/2" x 2" in size every five seconds and the stuff was incredibly robust. It just never wore out.

If the stuff can stand up to the amount of wear and tear these lines were giving it, I really think it would be the way to go for you.

I think the last place I purchased it was called Peckovers just South of Hwy 7 around Jane I think. They sell all different sizes and shapes

I have been thinking of doing something similar for my sled that I pull all my gear out with but just haven't had the time.

If you do try it, let us know how it works out and I will do the same.

    Good Luck

  15. After reading all the raves about the Helly Hansen Alpha floater suit, I told my wife I wanted one for xmas.

She has been looking for a couple of weeks now and can't find one anywhere.

Does anyone know where she can get one and how much it is.

I was hoping to stay warm this year ice fishing.

I almost had a two man clam off our classifieds but at the last minute the guy backed out and left me

hanging. I think he got a better offer... people can be soooooo rude!! lol

    Thanks guys.

  16. You think thjats bad... try getting through to an actual person at bell canada... theres a 1/2 hour of my life ill never get back this morning.

And the biggest problem is usually I am calling them monthly to fix billing issues and other nonsense that they created in the first place.

I find that if you don't watch what they are doing, they will add things and your bill will go up.

They do that to all of us and most don't bother to call because of the hassle on the phone.

Sorry for the rant and Hi Jacking your thread Tybo I feel better now!!

  17. Very nice truck!

I just traded my 02 Silverado Crew HD for a Nissan Maxima SE 3.5 and love it.

I do miss my truck though.

It was a $53,000 truck new and I had absolutely 0 problems with it.

I was only able to get $7500 for it when I bought the Nissan.

With all that was going on with GM when I was ready to buy, I figured why not try

an import for a change and so far, so good.

Doesn't that truck come with the 3.5 VQ motor?

Good Luck with your new ride.

  18. My bud who I do the odd tournament with has a Nitro with a 225 Optimax on it and for the last two years has had a de-lamination problem with his hull on five (5) count em five, separate occasions. He is now looking at taking them to court to do the repair properly.

Apparently they have been re-glassing without actually replacing the stringer (shortcut fix) and the fix has been half assed.

He also had them repair a lot of spider cracks all over the boat after two years of service.

If I were looking to purchase something with a price tag that high I would be looking at Ranger or Princecraft, IMHO.
