  1. Many boats fishing the Bluffers yet??? I thought the hot action was up Oakville way... I like the Bluffers nice launch and you do not need to go out real far to find fish. How many feet of water were you working and how many feet down?? Thanks. PS This is a Coho
  2. Get used to the heat, do you think this years massive snow fall was a fluke?? Get real!!! Hotter summer= warmer water Ie the great lakes = more significant snow fall!!!! We are going to have more and more days like this every year. Global Warming is real folks maybe not for the reason's Al Gore is filling theaters with but it is getting hotter... Buy a fan, and about October start getting your snow blower ready, when the snow flies this year it will be more than last years record dumps... Oh ya don't expect lots of rain either, but when it does rain expect a lot!!!
  3. There is a ton of local reports for the London and South western area of the province @ skunked.ca I find you need to use several boards to find good data before you load up the truck and boat to head out. With the price of Gas I use this board skuked,ca and spoon pullers and am usually not dissapointed when I fish a new area. People who use all of the boards I belong to are mostly selfless adn do their best to help you out.
  4. Lots of good info here: http://skunked.ca/viewtopic.php?t=3545&start=15 Concensus is the Loki is top notch!
  5. Is this one of those Guerrilla Marketing Things Again?? If it is I will plug my Friend Georges' Woodie Baits. They are hand made in Belle river Ontario right on the shores of Lake St. Clair which I feel has Ontario's best Muskie Fishing Bar none and feel that the next Ontario Record fish is waiting to be Caught Photoed and Released. Just my $.02
  6. .... Uhm... ER.... What Jen said.....
  7. There are lots of good products besides down riggers.... I like the torpedo divers as an option they are inexpensve and get you down fast! another good resource for Lake O and Lake Erie is skunked.ca In another 2 weeks the Bluffers should be hot, it has a nice launch and you do not need to go very far from shore to catch big kings in 150' of water or so. Good luck.
  8. Snubbers.... Types of snubbers, line diver size, conditions, species... Wow this could be a big answer... I generally use snubbers all the time, I use the braided clear snubber opposed to the surgical tubing type, they are slightly more rigid. Shock absorber would be a good way to describe what they do I also find they help stall your spoon and give it just a little more action on turns or when running a zig zag. I will go as far to say that we caught a larger percentage of fish last year and this spring on divers with snubbers than any other means. Diver size plays into it as well, I use the Walker Divers and the range in size from very small 65mm to ridicules. On the smaller divers the snubber is not necessary especially if river fishing for walleye, however If I am using a 65mm on 0 straight off the back of the boat 205' back trolling for Rainbow I would use the snubber. I do not think we have lost a fish because of a snubber but at the same time I feel it especially important to keep your line tight and tip way up when landing a fish while using one. You also need to consider a leader length including the snubber and rod length that will allow you to safely and swiftly land your fish on your boat. IE too much leader and you may not be able to get the net to your boat. Rob I think you are from my neck of the woods if you want to come out with us to Lake Erie send me a message we will likely be starting regular trips in the very near future as it looks like the weather is going to finally warm up.
  9. The OPP are looking for the operater of a small cabin cruiser between 22-28' for questioning or anyone whos has information. They are not looking for the Great Lakes Fleet.
  10. It seems that there are more and more new fishing shows on TV every day. The one that always grabs my attention is Fins and Skins with Henry Waszczuk I like to golf ans fish so it makes sense + I find Henry pretty entertaining.
  11. Check these guys out. The salmon Express hits Lake Ontario Hard!! Mike Snow is one of Lake Ontario's premier charter hands. I get my info from him before I load up to fish Kings. here are the details! http://www.salmonexpress.com/
  12. Here are some RJT sickle hook jigs made by a friend of mine they are all the rage on the Detroit river and Lake St. Clair.
  13. Stop at the DUTY FREE SHOP BEFORE YOU CROSS!!!!!!!!!!! They will tell you what you can buy and bring into Canada and are open 24 hours a day, they alos have the very best prices on beer wine and liquor.
  14. I know the man who survived, the story as printed in the Windsor Star is inaccurate the boat was a 19' Apollo center console with an 85 Johnson. He had only had the boat a short while and this has devastated not only his family but a community. Belle river is a small tight knit town everyone knows one another and has some connection to Lake St. Clair. Please remember when reading and commenting on boating tragedies that those involved are Fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, children, friends, and relatives of someone. Please place these people and those grieving they're loss in your prayers.
  15. May I be as bold as to suggest trying a sickle hook when making your jigs? The hook up with a sickle hook is far better than any other hook I have used. $.02 added.
  16. Aside from the temp crash during the early hours today and the cooler weather expected tonight things should stabilize by the weekend. The perch and more importantly the bait fish are already showing up in numbers from Port Stanley to Erieau. 53-57f is ideal perch fishing temps. The fish being caught in Port Glasgow are all along the pier look for the people fishing and pick a spot.
  17. Here are 2 more great tools for planning a fantastic fishing trip on Lake Erie. Lake Erie Suface Temps http://www.landbigfish.com/watertemps/erie2.cfm?ID=2 http://www.landbigfish.com/watertemps/erie2.cfm?ID=1
  18. The surface temps are finally warming up and my favorite fishing hole is already showing some spotty catches of Rain Bow Trout and Walleye. The pier at port Glasgow has started to produce good catches of perch as well. Here is some photos of what to expect when fishing lake Erie out of port Glasgow. All of these fish were caught on Nitro Spoons Last July. Most days we produced good catches like the ones in the photo. I like to check the Port Stanley Buoy before planning a trip the. the Surface temp is up 7f the last 2 days. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?...5132&unit=E
  19. What speeds were you trolling and was there a thermocline visible on your sonar??
  20. It is a good haul to head up that way what are the best and worst wind conditions to launch from Bronte in?? I have turned into a Fair weather Fisherman lately with the price of gas I'd sooner stay home than get bounced around in big surf. Thanks!
  21. On a calm day your 17' will be plenty of boat on Lake Erie, those Nitro Spoons are available at the General Store right in Erieau or were 2 weeks ago when we were up there. Tons 'O Tackle in St. Thomas has them and I have seen a few at Angling Outfitters in Woodstock. I don't think the have caught on in lots of places yet but man the finish is double tough!!! I hate buying spoon after spoon when the fish wear off the finish!! I used to keep a full set of sharpies on the boat to touch up my spoons when trolling on Lake Erie.. The walleye absolutely wipe the finish off spoons I have had some wiped out in just a couple outings! August btw is one of the best months to fish Lake Erie the bows are in thick and the walleye bite is red hot. Try Orange Slurpee down deep 44' and Muffin Man up about 30' and use sliders. Blacks, purples, orange, and spoons with copper backs are deadly in that area! Good Luck.
  22. Oh yeah I almost forgot this has been the Coho winner this year so far it is a Nitro 2800 Watoosie
  23. I am a troller by nature. I have so far this year been riggin salmon on Lake Huron and plan to hit lake Erie for Bows this Sunday, I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck fishing Kings out of Bronte on Lake Ontario?? Also I have discovered a new spoon at my local tackle shop. It is similar to a Northern King but the finish is entirely powder coated. So far I have caught lots of coho, lake trout, and kings on them and there is not one mark in the finish. I am very impressed the are called Nitro spoons and I hope to use them for walleye on Lake Erie as well and hope the finish stands up to the razor sharp teeth, if they do I will spend a ton less replacing spoons this summer. I think they have a web site Nitrospoons.ca Any way some info on Lake O Kings would be great. Thanks .
