  1. Sorry but this whole thing about the north pier south pier is confusing lol but Ie figured it out. Now where is this steel wall lol? is it the right side of the north pier facing the river?
  2. the more I look, it seems like the most peaceful and accessible place is the pier in port elgin where the Saugeen river connects. Looks like there is a lighthouse there so the kids should have fun. If there any reason Is should avoid this place, let me know. Looks like I will be camping out at inverhuron PP. Thanks.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions. I am going before bass season and though of going to the river, but based on what I see at the local rivers, there are definitely bass in there which I would like to stay away from until the season opens. I think the pier would a better option for variety of In season fish. I am not set on Point Farms PP yet as I would like to see inverhuron PP as well which is an hour north of Goderich, and I believe the pier on the Saugeen is an option as well, although I have never been there. BTW what is ben miller? is it the inn?
  4. Did some more searching and it seems like Bayfield pier might be a better choice. I'm not sure if there are any restrictions there or not. If anyone has any info, please PM me. Thanks
  5. Planning a camping trip in 2 weeks at Point farms PP in goderich and want to spend some time fishing with the family. I know the North Harbour is pretty restricted due to Sifto. Looking for some place where the family would be comfortable whether on the river or pier. Will be out there on a Thursday so hoping there is not much of a crowd. Of course hoping for any fish that is in season and just some family time with decent fishing. Thanks
  6. Thanks for the info. I will add that page to my favourites. yes definitely would not like to donate my tackle or myself and family for that matter lol.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I have never canoed before but would love to try it out. I am just afraid of flipping over although I know it won't unless I do something crazy. How stable are canoes for fishing suppose I do hook into something big? Are there lakes where they allow motorized boats or rent them out? I will continue to search and really appreciate all the help here .
  8. I know this is a long shot, but is there any decent brook trout fishing along Hwy 60 in Algonquin? I know the lakes in the middle of nowhere north of hwy have very good fishing, but with the family and a older car, I would like to stay as close as possible to the main road. Other fish I don't mind going after are lake trout and walleye. BTW I am asking about shore fishing early in June. Thanks
  9. yes. Thanks!
  10. Wondering where I can buy one of these for cheap or if you guys know any place that rents these out so that I don't have to buy one. I need one to cut exhaust pipe from a car at the scrap yard. Would like to go prepared in case there is not enough clearance to use a hacksaw. Thanks
  11. Planning on renting a pontoon boat at Simcoe. How far off shore do I need to be to hook into perch? How about lake trout and whitefish?
  12. Thanks for replies and the heads up about posting OOS fish. I was always a little intimidated by the guys at the park who come with their gear and stuff to fish and me being a newbie to fishing might have gotten a little too excited after my first catch. I never thought it would be of concern if it was released. But there are always those who say one thing and do something else, but I am not one of those. Truth is that I was quite disappointed when I got home that the only fish caught was OOS. the mistake I probably made was that my leader line was Mono and probably visible to the fish because the water was very clear. I will be investing in some Maxima ultragreen as I heard that stuff is good. The bows were pretty much facing upstream and just sitting still. On occasion a few of them were swimming around and some even leaping at what I'm guessing were flies.
  13. Some of you may remember my last thread about fishing the credit river, and I followed those instructions as best as I could. I may have arrived later than I should have to catch rainbows since there was literally a whole school of them sitting in a hole right in front of me. However they were not interested in anything. 2 hours into fishing and I felt something coming after my simple worm and hook setup and instinctively I yanked on the rod to set the hook. It fought pretty good but I was able to get it up to the rock I was sitting on no problems. My first ever smallmouth and it was a good sized one! I was fishing alone, so I could not get the measurements as it was flopping around on the rock and I did not want it to hurt itself. That is why I was only able to get a photo of it in the net. My estimate is that is was a good 14 incher and probably weighed 2 lbs, maybe slighly heavier. Prior to this, I only caught a few 6 inch perch so this is my biggest so far! I obviously released the smallmouth knowing the season does not start til end of June. And as mentioned before, I went for the trout. Can't control what attacks the bait. I am pretty happy with the results but darn those rainbows. they disregarded anything I presented to them Perhaps the rule of fishing them at dawn and dusk is what I should try .
  14. Since I am pretty new fishing, I don't have much in my tackle box yet. I do have some 1/4 ounce jig heads and some fake gulp worms as well as some of those plastic neon yellow worms with the curly tails. I have a rapala rattling lure, a northland buckshot lure, a northland bucktail jig, as well as a few spinners. I think I have enough to get some bites and hopefully some caught. Most of what I have is meant to be jigged and I'm assuming that is the method I should be using. I would be surprised if I don't get anything, but when should I resort to float & hook method or is that not needed? If I were to use what I have, which one should I try first considering I am fishing from the pier? I know I am overthinking here, but honestly anything I catch is fine but mainly would like to target perch and if I get lucky and get a walleye (of course on the lake side) would be a bonus.
  15. How about Friday evening (hour and half before sunset) as far as gong show is concerned? I'm trying to avoid weekends and at the same time trying to get in to Rock Point on opening day which is this Friday. Hopefully Friday evening has less of a crowd.
  16. Good point on the lake side and channel side having different seasons. I guess I will focus on the lake side for the most since its all open on that side. I will be going to Byng on Victoria day. Just trying to take advantage of the warm weather and get out for a picnic with the family once a week, so thought I'd hit up Rock point and Maitland this weekend. Ontario! Yours to Discover!
  17. I plan to visit Rock Point Provincial Park this Friday. Supposedly there is fishing at the park off the limestone rock on the shores of Lake Erie, but if I don't have any luck there, on the way back I plan to stop by Port Maitland Pier to do fishing. What should I expect to catch at this time of the year? Also what type of lure should I should use? Anything I catch at this point is a good catch! Actually anything besides Carp would be great! Thanks
  18. Looking at the map, it might be Bellevie marina, but like I said it all looks different. I will be staying at the sleep Inn close to the water and close to the Art Gallery of Algoma. is fishing along the waters behind the art gallery allowed? I believe there is a trail that runs along the river. Thanks
  19. I use to go fishing with my granduncle back in the days (20 years or so ago) when I was a little boy. He lived in sault ste marie at that time and I remember leaving home before sunrise and fishing from a pier or something like that. It was so long a go that I don't remember when I look it up on google maps as things have changed since then. The spot was a public spot where and there is a proper parking place and people fished from the pier and from shore alongside the pier. I would love to go visit this spot when I visit the area in July. I remember my dad caught something every time he cast from that spot.
  20. Thanks for the replies. I will be shore fishing and I think I found my favourite bucktail jig that I will try since I can launch that pretty far in case there is nothing close to the bank. Although the ones I picked up are a little heavy, I will have to pick up some that are smaller. can a bucktail jig be used for most fish as in keep it as my go to lure? I like the feel of it while in the water and the fact that it is good for weeds.
  21. Thanks Again! FloatnFly, those instructions are perfect.
  22. Thaks for the replies. I did fish the only hole I found which was a good 3-4 feet deep and it was right at the bank of the river. I also did see one bigger size fish swim by in the same vicinity. Considering it was swimming near the bottom,do I place the float like so that the hook is right near the floor of the river? If so, then wouldnt I have to place the float 2.5 -3 feet from the hook if I was fishing a 4 foot deep hole? Sorry if these seem to be newb questions. Thanks
  23. I think if I had pulled a little harder (which I should have) I could have gotten it out, but I guess being the first time and a few onlookers, I kind of gave up . I will look into the fluoro leader and moving the float closer.
  24. I went fishing at credit river in erindale park for the first time today. I went to test out the new braided line I put on my reel as well as testing the waters lol. the water level was quite low compared to what I have seen before, but being the first time fishing there, I place my float at around 18 inches from the hook with a fake worm on it and it got stuck in something under the water. I eventually had to cut the line and bid farewell to 10 feet of brand new braid and my only float. I think I have to get used to that and keep some more floats in stock lol. Just wondering what is the ideal distance from the hook that the float should be put on? The fake worm sure attracted a lot of the little baby fish, some whitish color and others dark (not sure what type of fish they were) who were literally going after it even though it was as big as them. who knows, the big fish may like it as well! I obviously didn't catch anything and neither did the others 4-5 guys while I was there, but then again I was only there for an hour around 10:30 am. Next time I go out will be early morning. Hoping for some better luck!
