I was at Basspro and the guy helping me (who seemed very knowledgeable otherwsie) discouraged me from spooling a whole reel with flouro.
What's your go-to flouro for a whole spool of it, Akrisoner?
Sunline fc sniper in 14 or 16lb
throw a crank bait on it once you get the hang of really handling a baitcaster and you’ll never go back.
takes lots of practice to be able to really bomb casts with straight fluro so I don’t recommend it if you are still learning to use a baitcaster. Don’t get discouraged, you will birdnest, you’ll notice even guys on the elite series bird nest occasionally, you just learn how to get them out without too much hassle.- 1

Seagar for me. Decent price and it seems to hold up to abrasions a bit better than P-Line.
I’ve seen some outrageous stuff with p line, as far as I’m concerned, stay the hell away

Would you say this applies to most fish species? And would you figure that they could show up where the little guys are now?
That 100% is dependant on the lake you are fishing. In the kawarthas not necessarily because I find those lakes are essentially overrun with small fish. However if you did notice that one particular spot allowed you to catch a bunch of fish in a row, or had somewhat better size, then certainly.
if you are Georgian bay, or other shield lakes, they typically have significantly more dead water. As such, spots that hold multiple fish will typically improve as the bite gets better. The challenge on Georgian bay is then locating those “big fish spots” there will be lots of places that will hold 2lbers, but few that will produce 4’s and 5’s. If you locate a 5lber on a shield lake…that’s a spot essentially forever more. Even better, if you find a group of 4’s there will be days you’ll sack up a 20lb bag on consecutive casts.

Yup, fish are definitely scattered. Once mid Oct hits watch out! If you've still got the rig up on PS, we should drown some big sucker minnows. It's kinda like cheating but man it's fun lol.
Bill, you know I'm too much of a purist/tournament nutcase to use live bait, but with livescope and 3 different looks/options for the fish to eat, I dont often find fish that wont eat at least something I present to them.
Ill shoot you a PM

The last couple of weeks of September/first few weeks of October on a nice warm stable weather pattern…you will probably have some of the best fishing days of your life.
im talking, throwing back 2 and 3lbers with disgust because they aren’t big enough.
These past couple of weeks, you can lock in on them and they are stacked up when you find them, they are just deep and the spots won’t be blatantly obvious. Yesterday we didn’t catch a fish over 2lbs unless it was 20fow or as I referenced as deep as 50.
It seems to change like a light switch though, no different than other animals that migrate, when they decide it’s time, they make their move.
to be honest, we’re almost hopeful that they don’t move this week, we spent so much damn time pre fishing for the derby next week and the big fish pattern is so hard that if it gets easier it’s to our detriment lol. Id rather it stay super tough, it will eliminate most of the field!

Sunline fc sniper.
I only use straight fluro on hard bait bait casting set ups. Like for cranking and spybaiting.
straight mono for jerkbaits
braid to fluro or straight braid for essentially everything else.
topwater use mono for your leader because it floats.

Very challenging time of year to target smallmouth, they are deep and scattered. You’ll find a lot up shallower but they will essentially all be small.
I just spent over 30 hours this weekend targeting smallmouth exclusively.
in a couple of weeks, maybe even a week, suddenly that will change and you will start coming across them again up shallower and putting on the fall feedbag.
put it this way, I was pulling out of an area today and noticed a mark on livescope in 49fow
caught my biggest fish of the day.
weeds are starting to die off, just like the leaves are changing on the trees.

Thats what I also wondered, what function does OTE have and could they specifically blend ethanol free gas?

September transition is always hard on everything. Guys aren’t catching any bass either, it always seems like there’s a light switch that goes off, the fish go from their summer jaunt, to ok it’s time to eat everything in site over the course of a two week period.

Bump Price lowered - This is a BRAND NEW $150+tax reel. I need it sold, I broke a spinning reel this weekend and need help funding its replacement!

That's our problem, we could really use a couple more refineries to keep the price down, but oh no, can't have that according to the climate changers.
Let’s not make generalizations or be political. I most certainly believe in man made climate change, but I also don’t believe in destroying a bunch of existing motors purely because corn growing lobbyists demand it.
id love to own a new fuel efficient four stroke, who wouldn’t. Unfortunately what I can afford doesn’t allow for it. That doesn’t mean it’s a great idea to effectively destroy every two stroke engine in canada and throw them into the landfill.

If the natives were smart, they’d say to hell with trudeau’s ethanol free fuel ban and just double down selling ethanol free premium from their refinery and network of gas stations located on their reserves. I can tell you there is a massive market of people looking for corn free fuel.

If I got rid of the bass boat and rods, I’d be able to renovate my house…but what fun is that

The tatula arrived next day. Amazing service from Peterborough tackle.
the rod is so light. Feels great in the hands. Cannot wait to use it.
thanks
Lol I love watching the slippery slope that you are on. I remember “splurging” for a Bob Izumi special combo for like $140 for the combo and thinking I was “set” I used to rip my tinner over near a set of pads, anchor down and throw a spinner bait in hopes to catch a largemouth or pike.
It’s addicting, but it keeps me sane is what I will say. I also don’t maintain any other vices at all, no smoking, drugs, drinking from the occasional beer, so fishing is my substance…and I let it fill me up.
definitely would have been cheaper to take up smoking and drinking though 😆

MH mojo is a quiver killer. It will do everything you need it to do from pike, bass, walleye whatever Theres basically nothing it wont be able to do as far as casting baits around.
My big "budget" rod that I am on right now are the evergreen combat sticks. Those rods are built like $300-$400 JDM rods at 1/2 the price when they go on sale.

Hey Guys,
I have for sale a Brand new in box 13 Fishing Modus C2 Right Hand Baitcaster that I won at a tournament.
Asking $80obo - Can ship or meet.

I’m gonna tell you outright, any reel you buy, make sure it has a power handle. I tried without and gave up basically immediately.
crow and bill, check out the diawa/nishine Bessie it’s a musky sized spy bait made by as you know one of the best lure makers on the planet

I've read through this again, and I am a bit unsure as to how I should proceed. If I use the plastic connectors, I won't be soldering this, correct? It's a matter of getting the for connectors lined up (staggered or else it'll be too bunch up), but apply the shrink wrap overtop? Or am I getting this wrong? The other option is to solder, then shrink wrap (which is what a friend of mine did for me in the past) but then it is not waterproofed, correct?
Are these the connectors? https://www.princessauto.com/en/25-pc-window-butt-connectors/product/PA1000000709
I could be mistaken but Those do not look like they are heat shrinkable
you are looking for something more like this https://www.homehardware.ca/en/6-pack-blue-heat-shrink-connectors/p/3624126
the reason guys said stagger the cuts is because if you do them all straight and there’s 5 wires, the butt connectors will make a blob of connections that can be clunky. It’s not the end of the world though, you could still potentially throw a large enough wire loom over the section to keep everything tidy.

Actually, in a lot of aircraft harness connectors you have to use crimps on the pins or sockets before inserting them in the connector because with solder the wire is too stiff and from the constant vibration the wire can break off at the joint. So different methods for different applications
Interesting, you clearly know far more than I ever would, but I have also heard rumblings somewhere before that solder connections in boats are actually not the best due to the vibration and beating a boat takes.
less so on the trailer side of things but more on the marine electronics side of stuff I’ve done a ton of research on how the “pro” installers are doing their work, and everyone these days has their own favourite crimp style connectors that they use.
I personally dig into it for a while and settled on MC4 style connectors. Not great for a trailer, but ideal for in boat. Waterproof, , easily disconnected, but both crimped, and then ratcheted and then snapped together. They’ve been awesome in mine and other’s boats I have wired since finding them.
-
Connectors are up to the discretion of the person doing the wire.
solder is always ideal if possible but over my time working on boats and trailers in hard to reach places, I find myself crimping more connectors than ever. A good solder to me has always been a challenge unless you can essentially sit over the two wires and put them together nicely in a vice.
insulated crimp terminals with heat shrink over the entire section so there’s no exposure has served me well.
I dip my exposed wire sections in dielectric grease prior to crimping, and then shrink wrap everything.

The fact you saw a musky says everything. I’ve spent many days musky fishing and seeing no fish.
Put it this way, in all of my actual musky fishing on Georgian bay, I’ve managed one fish.
as far as you experiencing difficulty with the baitcaster, im thinking it can be solved with more practice. Thumbing the spool is a bit of an art but spend a year casting baits hard and you’ll get the hang of it.
also braid is always easier to learn on than fluro.
also that abu…crank enough bucktails on it and it will explode anyways and leave you needing to buy a new reel anyways. How do I know? From experience lol.

Im just going to call it out for what it is...fair weather fishermen, dont catch fish.
Get some rain gear and get the heck out there.

Wait until you see how many 2lb largemouth you catch with them…
don’t worry about those cables, if you look at a map up in parry sound, if you couldn’t fish near cables there would be nowhere to fish. Those things are more so for large boats to not drop anchor right on them.

your favourite flourocarbon leader brand?

Absolutely not lol
line management becomes a nightmare regardless of how good your line is, plus most techniques you are using a spinning outfit with
1. You need maximum sensitivity, braid has no stretch so it translates back up to the rod.
2. I like high vis braid so you can visibly detect your line when it hits bottom and when fish bite.
I’ll tell you right now, every single one of the top pros that fish smallmouth on spinning outfits is using braid to fluro…if it’s what they are doing, it’s probably what you want to be doing as well.
