Pulled the trigger today for $159.93
Now I need to find a cheap rechargeable battery to go with the unit. Any suggestions?

Found a good price on one of these units, was wondering how it would work for ice fishing? Its a portable unit, but not sure entirely what that entails. Id imagine I need to buy an ice transducer for it.
You can exchange for a ice transducer for free

How big are the minnows?

If you contact humminbird in Burlington, they will exchange the open water transducer for an ice ducer for no charge if the transducer is unused!
Thanks

I was looking to convert one of them for ice fishing. Anyone have any experience with these units? Which one would you recommend?
I'm a complete noob when it comes to fish finders.

Most hut rentals will have stuff to buy that you will need. If you need.
Your post brought back the days of just tip ups and not knowing what was under the ice. If you want to feel the full effect of the old days, just get a couple of tip ups and try different depths.
Thanks for making me remember the ole days.
Crap, I need to charge my finder battery for the weekend. LOL
I did the old days when I was in HS. Our science class did a 2 day trip to Lake Simcoe. They provided us with wooden tip ups and a bucket of minnows. I remember them telling us to drop our bait to the bottom and lift your bait a foot or 2 off the bottom. This trip was so much fun, I only went so I can get out of school.

I thought most people keep fish when caught through the ice. Yea, I agree that one is a bit on the small side.
The pike I catch are from Lake Ontario and I release 99% unless it was fatally wounded. Also I don't eat fish much and not from Lake Ontario, I'm sure they're safe to eat but I don't think I can do it.
If I were to try ice fishing this year in Lake Simcoe, I would like to keep some jumbo perch and a pike for the table.

I was thinking of those rods and I was thinking of buying a tip up. If I were to go ice fishing it would have to be with someone who has all the gear or rent a hut. Buying a flasher would be sweet but I don't think that's in my budget just yet.

Sweet outing. Is their a reason why the pike was released? That looks like to be a nice size white perch, I never caught one before.
-
For a person that's looking into ice fishing for the first time. What's a good rate for a hut that supplies the gear and bait?

Do these lures ever go on sale?
-
Wow, that's so unprofessional of them.

Here's an Amazon trick that works sometimes...put your item in the cart and don't buy it, just leave it in there. A few days later it will sometimes "magically" go on sale.
Haha.... I have so many items on my watch list. If my items do go on sale, I have to find $35 worth to get free shipping

Thanks David for the recommendation.
As for the Calcutta Conquest, it went over what I wanted to pay.
I'm actually thinking of pulling the trigger on a Shimano Curado 301E for $340 tax in. Anyone here own this reel? If so what do you like to throw with it?
I was also thinking of buying another setup down the road that can handle bigger baits with a one piece st.croix rod.
But for now I think the curado 301E and a 2 pc st.croixpremier might be it at the moment.
