  1. My family has the same boat, Tracker Tundra SC. The most hardcore trolling we do is in the fall for BOQ Walleye. We went to metal supermarket and bought small half rectangle aluminum bars. Its bolted to the inner wall, on top of your life jacket. This 'plate form' is just tall enough so that the rod holders we bought can reach over and short enough to not be a visual distraction. There are predrilled holes to bolt Scotty rod holders. We can also take the whole thing off when we want. My explanation isn't very precise, I can send you more info if you need.

If you are down-rigging for Salmon, its probably better to spent the big money on the professional equipments. :)

I personally do not like drilling too many holes on my Boeing Engineered aluminum alloy.

I'm mainly trolling for Muskie and Lakers...there will be a couple of fall trips to Quinte....hopefully I'll be rigged up for Salmon next year.

  2. You'll want a perfectly flat mounting surface for tracks; I'm not sure you'll find that with your gunwales. As much as I love the track systems, I think I would avoid it for your boat.

Brian is right on the money. Mount them on the carpet using 6-8" towers, depending on the height you need. Try to PM Uncle Buck...he made mine and did a great job.

Thanks guys....that was my worry having gunwales that are not totally flat....the downriggers will definately be mounted on the back casting deck....I'll try to see if I have enough room for the towers!!

  3. I've been thinking about how to get the new boat set up for rod holders and am having a difficult time trying to decide how/what to do..

I've looked at many options such as the traxtech setup http://www.traxstech.com or this one http://www.trojantackle.ca/index.htm

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips before I start DRILLING :w00t: holes on my boat????....

I took a couple of pictures of the where the rod holders or trax system would need to go...

    Thanks,

    Steve

  4. I'm now looking at the $$$$$$$$ task of rigging the new ride and have come across a deal for a new 2008 Tohatsu 8HP 4-stroke long shaft kicker...half the price of the Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker...

My question is whether the 8HP is big enough to troll my 20' Tracker Tundra on a windy day??

I'm estimating that the total weight of the boat, 150HP Merc, and 40 gallons of gas is ~ 2500lbs...

    Thanks,

    Steve

  5. We don't drink our water, never have. And I'd hardly call it potable! lol have you seen how rusty that old culvert casting is? Not to mention the rotting drowning bugs that you can see swimming around down there. I should mention that the only water that was getting into the well came from a crack in the well wall right where I drilled my holes... that's how I knew where to drill them.

It's about 22 feet deep, and my holes are at around 15 feet. Water table for the most part is about 10 feet down. We can't do deep wells here because you get into sulfur water and water that's very very high in Iron.

My in-laws put a point in next door and it's only down 14 feet.

If you're not using it for drinking water than go for it.....looks like ya struck gold :clapping: and the wife will be happy now that she has water :worthy: .....a sand point is easy enough to do especially if you can get water at 14'....do some some research and do it yourself to save lots of $$$$$$$

  6. The idea of the casing is so that the water can be drawn from a deeper in the ground and not the shallower less desirable water.

It may be a good idea to have it tested before you drink it and to call you local well driller to get an estimate. It may be cheaper to fix it now with a new casing than having to drill a new well later.

    Dan

I agree 100%.....I'd be concerned with where that shallower water is coming from and has it had a chance to be filtered through the sand/soil properly or is it just "spring run-off" that has saturated the ground right now...I certainly wouldn't drink it before boiling the crap out of it..

  7. There are loads of good deals out there!!....use the Canadain dollar to your advantage and buy in the U.S......there's no comparison with the price of used boats down in the states compared to the overpriced boats up here in Canada...

I just bought one last week close to New York City and although it consumed a lot of my time perparing for the purchase, it was WELL WORTH IT!!!...

Do your homework, use your head, make lots of calls, and DO NOT SEND MONEY!......why would anyone want to send money to someone for a boat that they have never looked at :dunno: ....when you do find one ask to see the Certificate of Title, Lien Release, Boat Registration, Trailer Registration and then ask to see his driver's license to make sure all the info matches...also tell the owner that you want him to take the boat out on the water for a demo with you, and ask if there is a nearby Marina, that he can call to make an appointment to have the engine inspected that you will pay for....if the seller wants to sell the boat bad enough, he'll have no issues doing the above for you!! :thumbsup_anim:

  8. A few weeks back there was a thread about musky reels...got me thinking my wife should treat me next birthday to a new reel! The shimano curado 300 seemed to get a great review by OFC'ers. My problem is with dial up it takes me an eternity to load some of the websites to check out pricing. Anyone know an approximate price on this reel and a good place to pick one up? Thanks

    Rizzo,

A buddy bought a 300 a few months ago on-line from the states for a little over $200....I'll try to get more info for you..

  9. Congrats ! I noticed the motor says SALTWATER, Does that mean its good in both salt and fresh water?

    Sick boat !

cityfisher, you can use the Saltwater for both salt and fresh water....there's a water hose connector just under the engine cowling so that you can connect a garden hose and flush the salt water out through the motor...not sure what the other differences are....possibly a few stainless internal parts..I haven't had a chance to start reading the owner's manual...

Very nice Steve!!....if ya see me out there in the Disco Lund c'mon out and lets see who's got the faster macheen!

    Thanks Grant!!....you're on Bud!!.....zoom zoom zoom B)

looks awesome! better be seeing some reports soon out of that!

Thanks....no reports real soon as I still have to rig it up....I'll make another post later to pick everyone's brains as far as what's the best way to rig up rod holders...
