  2. Hooking up with old friends is always good Steve and sounds like you boyz had a fun trip despite the tough fishing.

Nice to hear the new ride worked as well as you figured it would too.

Thanks Lew...now that I've got the "Quinte Bug" out of me, it's time to hit the river for you know what ;)

  3. Beauty report! The fish on your screen are mostly all in the kill zone. Lots of them though, WOW!

Thanks Roy...There definately were alot of deep fish on that last screen shot!!....I think though, that most of them may have been Whitefish but I could be wrong...do the Lake O eyes actually go down that deep?

  4. I finally got a chance to get out for a mini fishing excursion with my old friend Dane after many years of being idle and not fishing together like we did in the past!

We decided to "re-kindle' the fishing bond we had by heading down to Quinte for a few days and try our luck at some eyes...

We took our time driving down on Wednesday morning and launched the boat around 9:00AM...we decided to troll the Thompson's and Sherman's point areas for a while before trolling around the cement plant and bay...

I kept beating my head wondering why we weren't able to hook into any fish so I turn around to discuss tactics with Dane and see this catastrophe!!!!! HE BROUGHT A BANANA in my boat :w00t:

Needless to say Wednesday was not a good day as we ended 0 -1 by sunset..

Woke up bright and early Thursday morning only to find that the wind had picked up from the East and was blowing pretty good..We took the ferry over to the launch and as we're getting the boat ready Mike the Pike came out of nowhere to say hi....what a small world...Mike was waiting for Memart to start their 4 day Quinte quest...we headed East of the Ferry and got bumped around for a few hours before deciding to head back to the bay and wait to see if the wind settled down in the Reach...this pic shows how rough it was out there..

The afternoon turned out to be awesome with us boating 6 small eaters all caught in the 30FOW range using a variety of cranks...

We got off the water earlier on Thursday and headed back to the room to down some pops and discuss the strategy for Friday morning...With the forecast looking in our favor, we decided to head back up the Reach and search for bait balls....we found lots but most of them were in the deeper water column including the fish..we only had a couple of hours of morning fishing before we had to pack up and head back home for 2:00PM so we re-rigged our setup to try and get our baits down to around 40' - 45FOW....

BINGO!!......Dane was able to get this healthy gal into the boat and ended our mini trip with a thumbs up!

Fishing was tough for everyone ....the water temp east of the ferry was around 50F and the fish were deep. The water temp in the bay and around Thompson's point averaged around 45F

We talked to lot of other anglers and no one was having great success with boating fish let alone big fish!....we met a couple of guys from Illinois at our motel that come to Quinte on a regular basis and they only boated 1 small eye in 4 days...They were cursing the east wind that someone stayed around for days!!

It's only going to get better but we need some cooler weather now!

Last but not least, my new ride handled the rough water like a champ!...We were totally impressed!

  5. Plans for the day have changed, if anyone feels like braving the elements to fish, shoot me a PM. I haven't a preference for location or species.

    Have a great day everyone!

ps what happened to the old hook up section?

Too bad we weren't living closer Bly!!!...The elements don't fizz me unless there's lightning in the skies!! :Gonefishing:

  6. Does anyone believe in Karma????

In Buddhist teaching, the law of karma, says only this: `for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant according as its cause was skillful or unskillful.'

My wife came back from walking the dogs along the beach this morning and told me that she met an elderly woman who was in her housecoat, crying and "shaking like a leaf" looking out at the water... ......the woman (in her late 80's) was distraught because her husband's sailboat had somehow broke away from the anchor and drifted away more than likely from the heavy winds yesterday/last night.. .... :(

I went out with the binoculars and low and behold, I see a sailboat that managed to drift up upon a shoal in the middle of the river...BINGO, I've found her boat. :thumbsup_anim: We gave her a call and told her the good news and she said that she would try to get ahold of her son to come give me a hand...within an hour, we went out with my boat and managed to get the boat off of the shoal and back to it's home!!! ....The poor woman must have thanked me 30 times...

So....now that the cover's off my boat, I decide to head out for a mid morning Muskie hunt...as I'm heading out the door, my wife gives me a huge hug and kiss and tells me that I'm going to catch a Muskie because of "Karma" .....

Within an hour of trolling a deep water crankbait, I jumped out of my seat to a screaming reel...YES!!!!....This gal came to the top of the water immediately and started doing flying acrobats.. she came out of the water 3 times!!....I kept thinking I was going to lose her but somehow managed to coax her to the side of the boat and into the Big Kahuna net.....

    KARMA??????????????

    48" x 20" of a shear beauty ....

    IMG_0486.jpg

The release was quick and easier then I thought it was going to be....the water temp has dropped significantly since Friday....it went from 77F on Friday to 72F this morning...

I decided to call it a day because it was starting to rain......I got the boat unloaded and as I get up to the house the sun peaks out while it's still drizzling rain...I turn around and look out at the river to see this...

    IMG_0488.jpg

    KARMA??????????????

  7. Steve

I have some indoor heated storage with security guard and cameras......$65 a month...

Let me know if you are interested....it's just down the road from you as well.

    Can't beat it.

    Matt

Thanks Matt!!.....I'll see how it goes this year with the shelter...even at $65/month, Dec- Apr would cost me $325....Hopefully, we'll have our own garage built by next year..

  8. Anyone that knows how to shrink wrap always vents it so humidity and moisture don't build up.Shrink wraping is one of the best ways to store boats outside aswell as if you leave it in a barn, it keeps the critters, dust and filth off your boat.It is abit on the pricey side, but when you pull it off in the spring and your boat is nice and clean and ready to go it is nice.

I looked at that possibilty but how many times can you re-use it???....@ $15/ft, I was looking at $300+ for a 1 season use... :wallbash:

Anyway, I went with the flow and bought the CTC one....Thanks guys!!!!

  9. As you design that gagage allow for a bigger boat. You will replace your boat sooner that the garage and the boat will most likely be bigger. When we built our house the walkout basement has a garage that is 25'deep with a 10' door. Also be careful of the height of the door when open. Mine just clears the butt seat when it is down.

Our plans right now show the dimensions of the garage at 36'x44'...there should be plenty of room for a bigger boat in the future but I think my 20' is big enough for me....thanks for the advice on the door height as it's something I hadn't thought of...
