  1. Interesting....now it becomes clear to me why a certain shop only issued me a fishing license if it was payed cash when they had debit available. I thought the MNR kept track of the number of temp slips they give out to tackle shops so I didn't think much of it.

  2. Unless you have a boat that sits very high in the water, i'm not a fan of the boat club launch. Not to mention that it's usually filthy, especially this time of year when boat traffic is not at its peak. It is also more expensive than Fishmaster's (8-10$ compared to $5) Your best bet would be to go to Fishmaster's launch or Port Maitland. Launching at Fishmaster's will put you very close to where the fish already are and have been caught. Good luck!

  3. Even though its too late now since you've done it, but on larger capacity spools I like to put extra mono so that I need to use less braid. Over the years I have found that when I replace my braid, 3/4 into the spool the braid has not even touched water, so may as well fill that part in with mono.

  4. Actually Skip, some good ideas there.I am one of those who is still new to trailer back ups. My biggest problem is left and right turns backing up. I now hold onto the bottom of the steering wheel.Seems my brain doesnt work quickly enough in transfering the left to turn right, and right to turn left, manoeuvredunno.gif

Also, i kinda stress a bit trying to get my boat in the water, so others in line can get to the dock also.

I am not afraid to admit, that i ain't no trailer jockey.

It will come with time and practise. When I first bought my boat it took me 15min to back it into the launch with my fishing partner throwing his hands up in the air and offering to back it in for me (maybe he will chime in here) :thumbsup_anim:. The first time taking the boat out at the beginning of boat season I am a little rusty too.

On a side note, nothing is harder to back into the water then a sea doo with a pick up as you can't see the thing. I saw a girl struggling to do it at a launch so I offered to back it in for her but quickly realised why she was struggling. My eyes were struggling to stay off her as well :D

  5. Judging by the pic, it looks like your going to be drilling some holes in the joists. I have gone through a reno recently and offer you the following advice:

I wasn't thinking about this when I had my pot lights installed, but be warned that because several are required to light a room they use quite a bit of hydro(assuming your not installing led ones). Mine are 50W each. They also generate quite a bit of heat which is good in winter and bad in the summer. My plan is to wait for a sale on LED ones and then I will be replacing them. Also, its never a bad idea to have half the room on one dimmer and the other half on another dimmer, especially if the space is not fully utilized. Costco is your cheapest bet for a decent dimmer.

  6. Weird, which shop?

I've brought broken St. Croix rods with no receipts into both Fishing World and Bills Bait with absolutely zero issues.

All of the rods that needed replacement were purchased elsewhere.

First I called JB Fishing Depot where I bought it and they said to send it to St Croix. Next I went to Fishing World and they said no. If I remember correctly, if the reps do not come to the store, then they wont do it. Maybe they are on board with a rep now? Again, when I tried was years ago things could have changed since then.

With Shimano it wasn't a problem to get it replaced at Fishing World. Although I did have to wait a while for it to come in. How fast you get your rod depends on how frequently the rep drops in.

  7. I tried to take mine for exchange to a local shop and they wouldn't because I didn't buy it there. Find out which local store has St.Croix reps that drop in. Then take it to them and plead that you lost the receipt but bought it there :thumbsup_anim:. They should help you out. Mine ended up costing me like 40$ to send to Wisconsin and that was like 5-6 years ago ;).

  8. Suprised nobody else had mentioned this yet. A cat will more than likely burn out because the engine is not running properly. If you do get a new one, chances are it will burn out again in a few months if the engine is not running properly.

What I would do if I was you is have it inspected underneath. If it looks good, then I would do a tune up on the engine and then get the new cats put in. I learned this the hard way with the wifes car all due to one of the cylinders misfiring and ruining a new cat after only 3-4 months of very low KM driving. New set of plugs and wires fixed the issue.

They were the cheapest around when I needed an exhaust for my 4Runner.

  9. Look at the bright side guys, after the owners catch wind of this post, I'm sure those guys will be fixed right up :thumbsup_anim:

I have had similar experiences as others, but I have had good experiences too where I was asked if I needed help. At the end of the day, I find it very convenient that I only need to drive 5min away from my house to get what I need, regardless of how they treat me ;).

  10. You will be ok, provided that you don't venture too close to the dam and you wear a PFD. If your fishing near the dam and thinking about anchoring, make sure you have a real sharp knife with you ready so that you can cut the rope if and when the anchor gets snagged. As you try to pull the snag free you are also pulling yourself closer to the dam (assuming you threw the anchor towards and close to the dam). Keep this in mind and play safe.

Me and DRIFTER_016 may of seen the same people as I saw 6 guys in a 12' possibly 2' away from the dam before. Iv'e had that current slowly pull me toward the dam when I was 20' away before. It does stop pulling you in eventually, but you don't know when that can be.

  11. Is Lakair even going to happen this year? I've heard stories about it being up for sale; they weren't going to run it anymore; it was being closed down. Can anyone confirm or dispell these rumors?

    What he said. Anyone?
