  1. You really need to pin down the year before you can put up an asking price. In the mean time, why don't you put masking tape over the decals and other non-paint areas and give her a couple of coats of paint to make her look better? Of course, you should sand down the paint chip areas first.

  2. Glenn, I have not stayed there but did launch there a few years back and was talked into buying some very specific bottom bouncing worm harnesses and tackle that ended up getting me skunked. They guy insisted that this was the only technique that would work because of the Zebra Mussel water clarity problem.

Watch out for the Bull if you stay there.

  3. My advice would be to first take a course on small business ownership and entrepreneurship. I took this course at York University a few years back and it was quite an eye opener to find out how little that I knew about starting and running a small business.

At the end of the course we had to right a complete business plan for a new startup company including all of the research that relates to government regulations, taxes, lines of credit with the banks etc.

We were told that a bank will not even consider a small business line of credit or loan without a well thought out business plan. You need to short and long-term goals that go out as far as 5 years into the future.

So do yourself a favour and first come up with a viable idea and then educate yourself to help you decide if you are throwing away your money, or stand a good chance to start up a new dream!

Like others said, expect long ours and little financial reward in the first few years.

    Good luck!

  4. Thanks for voting everyone.

    Here is the final tally:

45% said that they do take vehicles on the ice weather on a regular basis

55% said that they do not take vehicles on the ice

One point that I found interesting was the number of people that do take vehicles on the ice are from further north, ie not southern Ontario like myself. Of course this makes more sense because the climate is more stably colder thus making for thicker safer ice.

  5. So in light of all of the recent postings about vehicles going through the ice, I thought that this might be an interesting poll.

Please feel free to add any comments with your post.

    Here are my comments:

    • So first and foremost you risk your life being trapped in the vehicle if it breaks through the ice.
    • Secondly, if your insurance company won't cover any loss and you could end up paying for environmental damage as well, why risk it?

  6. I've been noticing for a few months now that pages are slow to open on this website. Even when you hit the back button I find the same thing. I noticed that at the bottom of the browser a message says waiting for googleads.g.doubleclick.net. Is the board site host using some tracking software that slows down the navigation between pages here? Does anyone know the answer to this or why the board is slower? I find it on any of my laptops. Both are quite new and run on different OS.

  7. Brian,

My wife and I have been skiing at Snow Valley for the past seven years while the kids are in lessons. They have an 8 winter weekend lesson program, so we have always made a day of it. This way the kids get to practice what they learned and have lots of fun while making the most out of our long Canadian winters.

Snow Valley has over 350 instructors and offers a great intro package. It is called Discover skiing. For $40 you get a rental package, 75 minute lesson and a 4 hour lift ticket for the bunny hill, which is all that you need for the first time out. If she likes it, you can go back for the Discover skiing 2 package. If she is comfortable, the instructor will take her on the longer runs.

They are the most flexible family orientated ski operation in all of Ontario. My 15 year old daughter became an instructor there this year after allot of training and full certification. She loves the job and loves the staff there. There are very professional people and really nice to all of their customers. You can't go wrong with this resort!

  8. When my buddy and I camp at the Massasauga every July, we take water on the boat with is and go back to the campsite a couple of times per day to eat, swim and have a couple of beers. We use to take a couple of pints out with us, but not any more. We never got wasted on the water, but get pulled over every year, so it is really not worth the $200 plus fine.

  9. Wow you guys were really lucky. Any one of you could have fallen out of the boat in mid air and landed on that rock point.

I'm not trying to be a prick but, why would your buddy be driving so fast, so late at night with 6 passengers in the boat and driving close to shore? Was he drinking, or just trying to show off, or a bit of both?
