  1. Norm, be careful with deet around anything that contains plastic. It desolves plastic really quickly. I was at the Moon on May 3rd and the blackflies were just starting. The good news is that tomorrow and Thursday are suppose to be very hot in Ontario which usually kills off the blackflies!

  2. I purchased a deep cycle from Crappy Tire 3 years ago and it holds a decent charge. The battery was around $90.

Last year I replaced my spare deep cycle with one from Bass Pro which was around $110 and it was much more battery for the money then the one from Crappy Tire. It holds a bigger charge thus lasting more hours on my trolling motor for not alot more money.

  3. I just got back from the Moon and had okay success. I went up there for Walleye and ended up with 3 Pike and no Walleye. The Walleye were still spawning up stream although we did have one follow up to the boat. I suspect that the minnows that I was sold were too large at 3 to 4 inches in length.

The pike were in the 3 to 5 pound range and all caught in 9 feet of water with Repelas. There was also no wee growth on the flat that we were trolling over.

  4. I've had an Anchor Buddy for 3 years now and swear buy it. I just toss it out and it holds even in sand because the bungie cord takes up all of the shock. I tie up the boat with the bow out and tie the stern to shore. Then when I want to get the boat, I just pull in the line from shore and the anchor line goes tight.

I once anchored the boat in 3 feet of water on Lake Huron in 3 foot waves and the boat did not move at all!

Andy from Muskie Striker has a few left for sale I believe. If not, you can get them from Boater's World through their website.

  5. Norm; you won't be able to launch at Pete's Place unless you have a campsite in the park. You have to keep driving down the road to the Moon River Marina to launch for day trips. This will put you in Wood's Bay where you might have better luck. There are some islands in the bay with shallow weed beds around them. You will likely get Pike and Perch in these spots.

Here is a mini map of the area.

  6. John; If I was planning on buying waterfront tomorrow and didn't want to break the bank but got what I wanted in waterfront, I would be looking in the Point Au Baril area on Georgian Bay. The highway will soon be 4 lanes all of the way there, and you are a half hour from the hospital in Parry Sound, which becomes a very important consideration as you get older.

As for the area, the boating and fishing is unlimited with very clean water and you can't beat the scenery. On top of all of this, there is a liquor store in town. Does it get any better?

  7. I only use the standup in October and the whole thing really gets in the way of casting and is in the way when folded up at the back. Buy a travel cover if the boat didn't come with one. I put it on every night whether camping or tieing up to the dock. It is far more handy and funtional.

  8. Moose; Outside of talking to Wayne, you really should contact a Legend Dealer; preferably the one in Innisfil since they do warranty repair work outside of the Sudbury head office location. Did the person that you purchased the boat from give you the warranty paperwork? There is a declining warranty that is good for about 10 years. The crack on the splash rail looks more serious then the one on where the rivets are. It looks like a stress crack.

  9. Norm; your best bet is the Moon Basin as you mentioned. There is an abundance of Pike there and all of the waterway is relatively protected for boating since most of the bays under less then a half mile across. Clear Lake, Little Whitefish and Big Whitefish hold mostly Lake Trout and require down riggers or copper line.

  10. I had a nose operation a few weeks ago in order to open up my one nasal passage more, but before this took place, the doctor had me try an off the shelf nasal rinse to see if it would help my breathing by flushing out the nostrils. God it was terrible doing this. The solution would flow down the back of my throat and into my mouth making me gag. The chemicals used in the solution are perfectly safe, so I would recommend trying this rather then a home remedy if you want to try a nasal rinse.
