  1. Raf, LOL on Captain Allan! I guess that we must have swapped stories in the past because that was where we always camped until the bear ran through our campsite 3 years ago. Now we camp further out in the bay on a smaller island.

Yes the water there is very unforgiving. We have been boating the same waters since 1990 and I always study the maps and then go through the area very slowly with the boat until I establish a safe boating route. If it is a sunny day you can see all of the shoals, but on a cloudy day always stick to the known route.

The only downside to our best fishing spot is that it is out in the open water, so we really have to pick the time to go there based on the weather. All of our inland spots are hit and miss. My Avatar is an in land spot that only produced Walleye once in 23 years. This place out in the bay produces nice Bass 100% of the time.

  2. My buddy Mike and I went on our 23rd annual trip to the Massasuaga Park last week for 4 days and had an awesome time once again. The weather was good and the bass were really on the bite this year. We went to our favourite spot and head multiple double headers all day long both times that we went out there. We also found a few new spots near by that produced even bigger bass. Worms were the favourite bait although we did try crawdaddies with limited success.

  3. It is like in Canada it is a process and in the US it is a prawcess!

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. I will be camping and fishing on Gbay with a minnow trap at my campsite with some dead bait inside. Last year we left filleted fish carcasses in the water near shore and noticed the crawdaddies all over them, so we thought that this would be a good technique this year to use them for bait instead of bringing up a bunch of worms.

Basspro had a regular minnow trap for $12 and a black version with the same size holes inlet for $4.00 more and called it a crawfish trap. I kid you not, there was no difference other than the colour.

  4. Cliff, if you want to go whale watching I highly recommend Tadoussac Quebec or if you are travelling the south shore of the St. Lawrence you can go out from Riviere-du-Loup. It was much better than whale watching on the Bay of Fundy. We stopped there in 2010 and saw 6 different species of whales. It is about 2 hours east of Quebec City.

  5. Jeez, I work for a paper company and see a 4 to 6% decline every year in the commercial print market, it is a shame to see the government now participating in this arena. I predict that eventually there will be a leveling out between electronic media and good old fashioned print. Remember everyone that it is a 100% renewable resource. All North American Paper manufactures are very good forest stewards and replace more than they take.

What is shameful in my industry is that a large portion of the manufacturing is now done in China with fibers supplied by North America. The Chinese mills are all subsidized by the government and truly not profitable. Walmart has done the same thing to the retail manufacturing sector in North America over the last 15 years. If you remember when they first came to Canada, the motto was made in the USA and made in Canada to a lesser extent. These ads quietly disappeared over time. Walmart is now one of the biggest importers of Chinese products into North America, so next time you need something, remember this. It is time that we all stand up and say that we want to buy products made in North America (shop NAFTA). i am sure that many members here have lost jobs to offshore manufacturing.

  6. It really is a great park. I have been going there since 1990.

A tip for your next trip, bring an aluminum extension pole and a 2x2 that is a foot long and drill a hole in the middle to hold the tip of the pole. Put your picnic table in the centre of the tarp and put the pole in the middle. When it rains you have the perfect shelter!

  8. Fish Logic, that is a great idea to have a separate card. I always check website security when buying anything on line before I type in any information.

I've had 2 cards compromised in the past at two different no name gas stations. Needless to say, I stick to the major brands now.
