I wonder what insurance rates are for these guys. Can't be cheap for liability insurance as an ice hut operate I would think....if some even do carry it lol.
-
I don't think anyone can honestly say that any ice over water is safe. "Safe ice" is a bit of an oxymoron.
Saying "stuff happens" implies right there that no ice is safe.
-
Wow. Glad everyone is ok.
They are lucky though, and it's a sign for people to stay off the ice. I'll never understand people and their need to be the first on thin ice or venture out the farthest. Some of these YouTube videos are of guys ice fishing Simcoe on no more than two inches. Nuts.

Agreed. This keeps coming up and the hot button topics seem to be increasing. What is the harm in creating a separate section for those threads? In addition, if something goes sideways on the general section just move it over there too.
But if they make a forum for general discussion, there would be very little content in the fishing related section. Lol

The era of fishing boards are gone to social media avenues. Now these boards are used for questions about, furnaces, fire places, trucks, cars, politics, home sales, advice on jobs and everything in between. Sad but true.

Just bring your fishing rod and say you're going fishing.

sounds like a good time. Curious though, are you allowed to have 7 people on a 16' boat? My boat is 18.5' and I'm only allowed 6.

Hi All,
I posted back in January, looking for help to find a good concrete company to do our foundation and floor for the garage we are hoping to build. We got more help than I ever expected! So a big thank you to all the people who offered great suggestions.
If you can believe it we still have not started this project.
A little back story I will try to keep it short as possible.
Since February 2015 I have been talking with Richmond Hills Planning,Building and Zoning departments. We have some flood plain on our property which really is a joke but none the less, we got the required approval from TRCA that we are not effecting the flood plain as per Richmond Hills instruction. After I got our TRCA permit I went back to the town and asked the planning department if there is anything else I need to know before applying for the minor variance. I expressly told them I have never done this before, so I am really looking for guidance and want to make sure I have everything correct because a minor variance application in our township is $4000 and is non-refundable, they said everything looks ok but it's really up to the committee, so I applied for my minor variance.
After forcing me to delay from the April meeting to the May meeting, they call me 3 hours before I can defer the May meeting for free (otherwise it's a over $1000 dollar charge by the committee) to tell me they will approve my permit if I give them my land (how much they couldn't tell me, but most likely will be over 1/2 of my lot) for free!
The town is extorting my land from me because they know I have spent 1000's in fees and permits that is non-refundable. Even the TRCA has informed them that it is not an appropriate situation to seek land conveyance but they refuse to change their demands.
So just to be clear, the town is saying "We will give you a permit, if and only if you give over 1/2 your land for free".
I have spoken with our Councillor, Mayor and the Ontario Ombudsman's office, all of which have no interest in helping us!
I am hoping after you read this thread and hopefully my petition, you will see how absurd our situation is and support us by signing our petition.
This is terrible news. Sorry to hear. I guess it's times like this that make light of the old saying it's better to ask for forgiveness then permission.
You did nothing wrong by the way, and it's s shame considering you've taken all the right steps only to be essentially black mailed. Sometimes it's better to just do things without asking. Lol

When I was at Radio World a few years back there was a big sale on those Elites. The employee did tell me at the time that for deep water they perform poorly. I went with the humminbird. Life's short, buy a good unit. Lol

Like most lakes, spring and fall are always the best times. For that area is would be June and September. But I would seriously reconsider fishing nipigon in a 14 footer. That lake will eat you up really fast.

lol organic farmers spray pesticides as well you know . hell the one farmer here takes all our fish from the fish cleaning station and puts the carcusus on his organic farm... lots of PCD dioxin and mercury in the fish just to name a few.. so much for healthy eating i will take my chances with pesticides thank you
Organic farmers do not use synthetic pesticides or herbicides. you are eating synthetic chemicals that are in your food. But you'll be ok I'm sure. Lol.

I agree. On a fly fishing forum he would treated disrespectfully too. And I presume you are a feather head purist, which is why you called him out on your own presumptions. Elitist mentality on most feather heads I've bumped in to. Unfortunate to say the least.LOL please, my responses were pretty measured compared to the kind of reception the original post would receive on an actual fly tying/fishing forum. Classy with the name calling too, not unexpected though.

I'd say. Sheesh....what a bunch of D! CKS!
S.
I second this. Lol. A think of few of these guys need to get a life.

What is there really to think about? We should be buying the best quality food out there available to us. Eat in season. Grow your own garden. Ontario grown is best and organic non gmo as well. Don't eat a lot of meat, but when you do, eat meat and dairy that has been raised organically. Like I said earlier, Common sense is your best friend.
Cows eat grass so why eat a steak that has been pumped with hormones and corn and all kinds of crap to get it as big as fast as possible. The main concern with everyone is more to do with the price of cleaner foods. The right way is always more expensive, and that analogy doesn't stop at food production. At the end of the day, it's your health and you do have choices.
-
At the end of the day, no matter your belief, common sense plays the master role in ones health. Lots of fruits and veggies. Very little animal product. If you can't pronounce it, God bless and good luck to ya.
Started eating clean 2 years ago and the difference is night and day. When I do stray and indulge a bit, boy do I feel it.

I imagine they do this in the spring because of the volume of water. So changing it to summer or fall wouldn't get them down the river. I think this event should be cancelled all together. Between this event and the gong show in the fall below the dam the river looks and is treated like an amusement park. Not a natural resource.

So much for the citiots just falling through the ice. Lol.
In all seriousness, glad you got out!
-
well go and voice your opinion then.....
the mnr needs to hear it.
I have voiced my opinion in person for years. It just falls on deaf ears. The MNR do what they want. These meetings are smoke and mirrors.
-
This should be a very interesting meeting. My guard would be up big time.
-
I fish the hell out of mine...And I clean it.
You win!
-
cleaning carpet?
you're supposed to do that?
X2. I'd rather go fishing than worry about how sparkly clean my boat is. As long as everything is working. Who cares. It's a boat. Lol.

you need a high speed internet connection with lots of data
I have bell 25/10 with 125GB. I have a fast signal strength with no problems. How much TV does one need to watch? My internet service is $65.
-
What is happening is bell and Rogers are losing a lot of revenue due to live streaming technology. Cable is a thing of the past and with the older generation starting to fade away they will notice huge impacts to their bottom line. They are working with the crtc to mitigate their financial loses by getting more users into the cable game. I have Netflix, and an antenna. I get global ctv cbc city cbs Buffalo channel 4 bounce and tvo. I don't need anything else. I pay $8 a month for everything.

Wonder if anyone used common sense and stayed off the ice today.
Planning for Lake Nipigon
in General Discussion
Posted
Wow. 14' on Nipigon. No offence but I wouldn't venture to far from shelter on that lake with a tinner. And without two engines. That lake eats boats lol.
