  1. glad some of you made out ok....Me, not so well. felt funny all day my youngest was sick in the morn and by 5:30 i started to get sick to my stomach :( made it to ball drop shaking under a blanket. Had to cancel our evening out. This morn my body aches from the heaving.

It can only get better from here!! Happy 2015!!!

You aren't the only one, my head isn't feeling great either. Still had a good night, watched both hockey games, had some steak watched a movie and finally hit the sack around 1.

  2. I'm looking for some opinions on the yearly fishing trip for next year. This year we went to Montana, the year before BC and the year before it was Calgary. We're considering doing Montana again next year but if we can come up with another option we'd like to shake things up a bit too. We can go just about anywhere in North America (although Argentina is in the back of my mind). The target will be trout, any species doesn't matter but cuts, browns and brook trout are my faves. We're also looking for a river destination, not too interested in lake fish. So where is your dream trout destination?

  3. 30 feet is a shooting head, basically a very heavy piece of fly line that has the weight of a full 90+ft line but in a much more compact package. It's great for distance and big flies/heavy tips but sucks for presentation, that doesn't matter much for streamer fishing but if you do intend on fishing dries it's less than ideal. The maxima he's using is just a nice stiff mono, you could easily go up to 40lb for running line if you decide to go with a shooting head system.

  4. Ummm, where are you fishing? An 8wt may be a little overkill depending on the size of lakers you're talking about. If you're just talking smaller back lake lakers around here I'd consider a 6wt. And for the line I'd look to see if you could find a Versitip system for sale (they retail for around $160 but you should be able to find one cheaper, DO NOT skimp out on line, it is by far the most important part of your setup) that way you get all of your lines in one and save on an extra spool/reel. For a rod I'd look towards Echo or TFO, both make very good starter rods, again you could look towards something used. For a reel take a look at an SLV as suggested or even a Flystart from Ross.

Haha mine outfished me too. That girl can bring up 4+ pound bass like they are sunfish.

For me a big pike 20+ pounds would be a dream.

In the past 2 years I have been wishing for a 20+ pound laker through the ice. I can't even imagine what that would fight like.

Under my buddies dock lives a Sturgeon we have named General Sherman. Far as we can figure he weights 100+ pounds and clearly doesn't give a **** about anything we do to try and catch him. He has broken 30 pound braid like dental floss and only hits when we never expect it. Just to see him once would be amazing.

They are sunfish, you should know that :P

Probably a good sized permit or striper on the fly for me right now, or possibly an Atlantic off of one of the river Spey, Dee, or Tweed on a full dress salmon fly.
