  1. Try giving Captain's Marina a call. They are located in Bewdley (Rice Lake) and just checking on their website today, they have a 98 Evinrude 9.9 motor for sale. http://www.captainsmarina.com/index.php
  2. I don't understand the merit in posting pictures of dead and blood soaked deers and moose hanging upside down. I mean its not the same as posting a fish meal...its a little more "graphic". Then again I don't hunt nor plan to.
  3. Thanks guys. The batteries are working fine since I'm able to crank the motor and use the trolling motor. The wiring is nuts in the boat and its going to take sometime to go through it. When I reconnected the wires back to the battery, I didn't notice a redwire with an fuse on it but maybe its somewhere else in line.
  4. Bought my first boat ever this year and took her out on the water for the maiden voyage this past weekend. Everything is pretty except the fish finder (Eagle Cuda 168) won't power up now. Its mounted at the bow of the boat and the transducer is on the trolling motor. When I bought the boat, the previous owner was able to power it on. Having never owned a boat before, I don't know the electrical connections for a fish finder. I'm assuming it has two leads to connect to a 12V battery? The only thing that connections to the fish finder is a what looks like a S-video plug. Sorry if I don't make any sense but I'm a newbie. Would really love to get the fish finder working.
  5. Got my hitch for a 2001 Ford Windstar done at FX Auto (www.fxauto.com). Wayne Terranova, the owner was very helpful. I also got my Mazda3 tinted there as well.
  6. Before getting our own cottage, we've always rented from Springbank Camp (owned by Lyle and Myrna Brown) which is located in Roseneath (close to the middle of the lake). They don't have a place to tent but they their cabins are pretty cheap ($25-$30/day/night) and the boat rentals are $50 + cost of gas. The cabins aren't fancy but it has running water, toilet, showers, kitchen and most important of all in April/May, a wood stove.
  7. Springbank Camp on Rice Lake (Roseneath) run by Myrna and Lyle Brown is a good choice.
  8. As a first time boat owner, I need some advice from the experts here. I purchased an 2 bank onboard charger for my boat at BassPro. It has a maintainance/float feature where it will float the battery charge to keep it ready for fishing. From my cottage to the boat lift & dock, there is about 150 ft. so I'll need to get a extension cord to plug in the charger. Since I'll be leaving it outside 24/7, what type of extension cord do I need? Do I just use the same ones that I use for the garden electronics or do I need a special type to withstand UV, water and etc? What do you boat owners use?
  9. Lots of great and helpful replies here, I appreciate all the help. Most sellers that I've talked to will run the motor in front of me. How long would you want to see the motor idle, in Forward and Reverse gear and in Forward slow troll? Is 30 seconds enough? I find there is so many conflicting price ranges for small outboards. As one member mentioned here, the are easy selling items so even if some are overpriced, they will still get sold. It also depends on the condition and number of hours on the motor (how do you even check that?).
  10. How are compression tests done? Is there a tool I can buy to measure it?
  11. Thanks for the replies. I am looking for a long shaft. You can determine the shaft length/type you need by measuring your transom. fishindevil, how do you go abouts checking the lower gear for damage? And how do you check if there is water in the gearcase without having him drain all the fluid and fill it back up?
  12. Hey everyone, Great forum we have here. Been here since last summer surfing around, signed up this year and decide to post and say Hi to everyone. So I'm looking a used 9.9-15 HP outboard. What type of questions should I be asking? Any pointers would be great!
