    My friends, Husband and Wife decided to start an eco-tourism business in the Highway 805 Area north of River Valley On, they offer custom packages.

     

    From Angling to Hunting to hiking and Mountain Biking access a TON of lakes

    Rivers and Creeks.... Hunting in the fall and whatever you may wanna do in the wilds of N/Ontario. :clapping:

     

    Prices are very reasonable and here's the BIG + .. you get to fish at all MY favorite spots.. :mellow:

     

    The reason I posted this ... is that there many recent posts about Camping Fishing and such... This is a GREAT alternative to "Cottaging It"..

     

    I wish my friends all the luck in the world... and am hoping that they get some OFC support!!! :clapping:

     

    Now Her and Her Husband will probably be joining OFC and become GREAT Members.... They are very well educated in the outdoors and can be of great help on the board.

  5. Lake Nipissing Water Level

    Latest over flight pics I've seen of the area North of Sudbury and Temagami... snow is for all intensive purposes gone.. and the creek beds are darn near dry...

     

    20+C over the weekend won't help. There'd better be a LOT of rain in the next month...

     

     

    My Bro In Law was bang on the $$... gettin reports from friends in KL Cobalt and Latchford... they're gettin' worried too.... Temag. is just like West Nip. we need 40 days and 40 nights.

    When I feel like splurging I'll buy a 12pk of Innis & Gunn 40$

    When I can buy regular beer my brand is Molson Ex or Sam Adams

     

    But usually I pick up a box of Brava.. great stuff for the $$ 29.95.

     

    I'm glad I don't live in New Brunswick where a 12pk of the premium stuff is 23.00$.. and a "Provincial Brand" @ 18.00$[the provincial government brews it's own beer to try and prevent locals from crossing into Quebec].

    GARDEN SNAKES CAN BE DANGEROUS...

    Snakes also known as Garter Snakes (Thamnophissirtalis) can be dangerous. Yes, grass snakes, not rattlesnakes. Here's why.

     

    A couple in Sweetwater, Texas, had a lot of potted plants. During a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze.

     

    It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants. When it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa.

     

    She let out a very loud scream.

     

    The husband (who was taking a shower) ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there was a snake under the sofa.

     

    He got down on the floor on his hands and knees to look for it. About that time the family dog came and cold-nosed him on the behind. He thought the snake had bitten him, so he screamed and fell over on the floor.

     

    His wife thought he had had a heart attack, so she covered him up, told him to lie still and called an ambulance.

     

    The attendants rushed in, would not listen to his protests, loaded him on the stretcher, and started carrying him out.

     

    About that time, the snake came out from under the sofa and the Emergency Medical Technician saw it and dropped his end of the stretcher. That's when the man broke his leg and why he is still in the hospital.

     

    The wife still had the problem of the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor who volunteered to capture the snake. He armed himself with a rolled-up newspaper and began poking under the couch.. Soon he decided it was gone and told the woman, who sat down on the sofa in relief.

     

    But while relaxing, her hand dangled in between the cushions, where she felt the snake wriggling around. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa.

     

    The neighbor man, seeing her lying there passed out, tried to use CPR to revive her.

     

    The neighbor's wife, who had just returned from shopping at the grocery store, saw her husband's mouth on the woman's mouth and slammed her husband in the back of the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and cutting his scalp to a point where it needed stitches.

     

    The noise woke the woman from her dead faint and she saw her neighbor lying on the floor with his wife bending over him, so she assumed that the snake had bitten him. She went to the kitchen and got a small bottle of whiskey, and began pouring it down the man's throat.

     

    By now, the police had arrived.

    Breathe here...

     

    They saw the unconscious man, smelled the whiskey, and assumed that a drunken fight had occurred. They were about to arrest them all, when the women tried to explain how it all happened over a little garden snake!

     

    The police called an ambulance, which took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife.

     

    Now, the little snake again crawled out from under the sofa and one of the policemen drew his gun and fired at it. He missed the snake and hit the leg of the end table. The table fell over, the lamp on it shattered and, as the bulb broke, it started a fire in the drapes.

     

    The other policeman tried to beat out the flames, and fell through the window into the yard on top of the family dog who, startled, jumped out and raced into the street, where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and smashed into the parked police car.

     

    Meanwhile, neighbors saw the burning drapes and called in the fire department. The firemen had started raising the fire ladder when they were halfway down the street. The rising ladder tore out the overhead wires, put out the power, and disconnected the telephones in a ten-square city block area (but they did get the house fire out).

     

    Time passed! Both men were discharged from the hospital, the house was repaired, the dog came home, the police acquired a new car and all was right with their world.

     

    A while later they were watching TV, and the weatherman announced a cold snap for that night. The wife asked her husband if he thought they should bring in their plants for the night.

     

    And that's when he shot her.

    Funny how that happens..goes to show elevation ..Now that the gate is closed and the Turbine is barely running the

    Sturgeon River levels both Upper and Lower have fallen...

    my "Walleye Rockpile" is even dryer than it was last week.

     

    Today,I went up to River Valley and back towards 17 through Warren & Kipling and Verner then to Cache Bay via 64& Leclair Rd...... NO WATER!!!! :(

     

    The Beavers will have a busy summer!!

    We need rain and a lot of it.

    UPDATE - March 29th.

     

    No water at all coming through the chutes at the Sturgeon Falls Dam today, just the flow through the penstocks.

     

    The water level in the lake in the past few days has risen only very slightly.

     

    This afternoon, the ice out on the lake went from white to gray.

     

     

    Funny how that happens..goes to show elevation ..Now that the gate is closed and the Turbine is barely running the

    Sturgeon River levels both Upper and Lower have fallen...

    my "Walleye Rockpile" is even dryer than it was last week.

  13. I second Jocko's fear of low water levels

    Pics I received of my docks today. Apparently I'm not even an island anymore... there is dry land behind all the way to mainland. The airplane dock is high and dry and gonna get damaged when the ice melts out from under it. Water is about 3 feet below normal ice out levels.. and at least a foot lower than the lowest it usually gets at fall drain out. Ice is still cracking and banging.. meaning the water is still going down. Pray for rain folks.. and lots of it!

     

     

    I agree ... I was up HWY805 today and saw no snow and low water everywhere... Temagami River is but a trickle so is Upper Sturgeon... Yorston & Gull were accessible by truck this past weekend.... what's in store? HMM :dunno:

  17. What car to buy??

    70 K a year! thats alot of K. I understand how you view your car as a tool. I hope that you would reconsider your options. A diesel Jetta or a Golf will outlast almost any other car on the market today. These cars will laugh at 280K. The $ you will save on fuel will offset the extra cost of the initial purchase price. 1200km to tank on 50-60 litres. Good luck with your choice

    My wife is in a VW and its been nothing but a pleasure so far.

     

    Also, take a look at Subaru.....they make some great vehicles.

    I third that.... but unless you buy it from a chop shop you're not getting a Canadian product.

    As for being expensive to fix.. not that much more than the average import 10% or so more than the average domestic but breaks 70% less.

     

    But I would second the Focus/Mazda 3.. and not a disguised Daewoo like most GM mid sized "not the Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix"

  18. Lake Nipissing Water Level

    I hope you're right and that the upper part of the drainage basin still has a significant supply of run-off. But we need the lake to rise about a meter, which is a hell of a volume of water for a big lake like Nipissing.

     

    I hope you're right and not my brother in law... he was up to KL and Temag today and stopped in after supper apparently the creeks and rivers are low up there as well and the snow is very crystal like the deepest spot he found was about 4" not a good sign WE NEED RAIN!! :worthy: .

     

    My Walleye rock-pile is now exposed 90% Sturgeon River dropped another 6" or more... the 1 and only gate that was opened is now closed and

    Generation Station is running @ 50%... I hope that they're trying to hold back some water for later. :dunno:

    Crazy isn't it?.... No snow left in the bush and whatever ice there is left to melt in the watershed will not help much with the water levels.

     

    The Sturgeon River is at least 5 feet low.. My Walleye rock pile that usually sits in 5-7 feet of water is 85% dry.

    There are a lot of lodge owners on the north shore of Nip.that will not be able to moor their rental boats or even offer a launch for their guests if this keeps up.

    We need 40 days and 40 nights and forget about building an arc... It's

    just gonna fill the ditches.

     

    I foresee the fish being easier to find but I'm gonna carry a spare prop with me at all times 'til the water rises... if it does. :(

    I went to Service Ontario again today " with a pocket full of advise"

    I logged onto OFC from the S/O office ....I showed her this very thread.

    She was impressed by the buckets of knowledge that the "average" person

    had.

    I know the secretary and she was kind enough to tutor "coach" my client

    into passing the on-line test while on her lunch hour .

     

    That's service if I've ever seen it!!!!

     

    Once Again thank you all for the great help and making someone's day and future better than it was.

    Randy, not to be nosey, but how does he communicate, simple yes/no answers, point to picture answers? Does he understand well? If so I'll bet that someone can be his aid during the test, PM me if you don't want to post the answers, maybe this can help others in the same dilema.

     

    He communicates with the vocabulary of a 5 year old but has the comprehension and retention of a 9-11 year old and has the motor skills of an adult athlete.

    Here goes... I have a client at Community Living ..He drives his own 14 '/ 20 Merc aluminum boat regularly... he cannot read or write and is verbally challenged.. does not qualify to get a "G Driver's Permit"

    doesn't need a fishing permit because of his disability.

    But pilots his boat like the best of us.

    Service Ontario nor the OPP or my Regional Police could answer this.

     

    Is my client exempt and allowed to navigate a small vessel or is he dis-allowed period.?

    and/or is he able to have a coach while taking the test "he'd pass"...

    If you can answer this your good .. no; not good...
