I got 3 days to spend next week fishing and boating with the kids. Which one provides the better camping fishing combo? I have never been to either. Or maybe someone could suggest another spot in the area. thanks

yea but with the dollar so strong the prices are about 2000-3000 less in the us.

I am shopping for a new /gently used tent trailer and new/newer 60-75 hp outboard and would like to check out prices in the US with the dollar so strong. Does anyone know of sites similar to autotrader.ca for rvs and boats in the us?

the morons that insist on staying out at night to fish in their canoes or small tinnies with no lights that flash a flashlight just as you approach them, get a light or get off the water. people that see you catch a fish and think where your boat is is the only spot on the lake that you can catch one.

I am looking at buying a new tent trailer. The problem is the one I want is in Calgary AB and I am here in St.Thomas Ont. I am thinking of just driving out to pick it up but that is a long way.I want to inquire about getting it shipped here. Any ideas about who would offer this type service and idea of what it may cost? thanks

well just as i am getting my tent trailer ready to sell,i discover a crack on the hard top. It looks like someone hit it with a hatchet. My first guess was a rock hit it on the way home last week from restoule. But after sometime to think I remember last wednesday morning when we started to pack up it was extremly windy. After I removed the screen room the wind picked up the awning and threw it up over the top of the trailer with the pole hitting the roof hard. Well I never noticed the crack until today. It will need to be filled then fiberglassed. Does anyone know of someone in the London area that would do this type work. I would do it myself except I want to sell it so I want it done perfect. thanks or any suggestions.

why are my boat trailer tires wearing unevenly? The outside of them has no tread left with some flat spots only on the outside. The rest of the tires look fine. Also since I will have to replace them what about 13 inch car tires instead of 13 inch trailer tires? They are cheaper and have a heavier load rating. thanks

My quest continued on the Canada Day weekend
bow slayer replied to 007's topic in General Discussion
sorry about the tough luck 007. It took me a few years to figure out the fish on restoule and now i have been going there for nearly 20 years i am usually very sucessful. This year things started off a little slow on the Canada Day weekend with the cool damp weather. My son and i tried fishing the bay around the Boat Launch at bells (black and white starcraft) usually good for smallies and pike and the dock looked fairly busy.We were only boating 3 or 4 walleyes each evening along with a few smallies. But by the middle of the week the fishing picked up greatly and we had a few 20 plus nights with the eyes. The were mostly small ones in the 1-1.5lb range but we did manage a few 4-5 lbers. We only keep 10 fish all the time we were there. No musky this year thou. It is a tough lake but once you find a couple spots it is very reliable. -
Hey Aaron great report. I was there the same time you were i seen your explorer with the little blue tinny on top a few times last week around the park. You even talked to 12 year old son one day down at one of the ramps. I have been going up to fish restoule about 20 years now. we do real well for walleyes mostly on restoule and always hit a few muskies usually by accident every year. Looks like you hit that one just to the left of the boat dock on stormy, maybe by the small rock or the river mouth, nice fish. Last year we hooked 2 about that size in the same area. This year we spent most of our time on restoule dew mostly to the crappy weather ,but we had a few 20 fish evenings with the walleyes. Nextt time you fish the area go down the river on stormy towards the dam some great smallie areas along the river. Then below the dam is Lennon Lake which also holds a few muskies. Also on the back road lake if you keep going past sand lake you can get to Shoal Lake which has some great walleye and pike fishing. it is a rough ride but worth it.

2003-04 explorer or envoy/trailblazer?
bow slayer replied to bow slayer's topic in General Discussion
thanks for the replies. If it were up to me I would go for the Nissan Pathfinder. I test drove a 2003 last week and it was great. Rode and handled much nicer than the explorer or trailblazer/envoy.The problem is it only seats 5 were the other 2 can seat seven which comes into play when the kids hgockey season starts up. I will be pulling a 12ft tent trailer and 16 ft starcraft. So far sounds like the GM owners are satisfied. -
Lookin to purchase one of these 2 in the fall. Just like to hear the good and bad about both vehicles. I did own a 1992 explorer for 8 years loved and hated it. right now I have a montana SV6 what a piece of s**t. thanks

What's the best way to catch my first walleye?
bow slayer replied to 007's topic in General Discussion
well 007 you are in luck. I am also headed to restoule this wekend. This will be my 18th year .I am also camped in the park in the Kettle Lake area, also on the water. As for shore fishing for walleye, the waters in the park offer very little spots for shore angling for pickerel. Your best bet would be off the dock at Bells. I have seen and caught myself several large smallies. I have also seen pike and musky caught off the dock, but never any walleye. The shoreline on the park side is generally shallow. You can catch lots of smallies off the beaches of the park, especially early in the morning. You will have to either have a boat or rent one from Bing at Martins. The large island in front of the main park beach on the west side is a large weedbed in the 12-15ft depth range that holds lots of walleyes. You will see the boats out there starting around 7pm each night. Also the far west end of the lake offers the best fishing for walleyes. If you do have a boat better luck yet should be had on Stormy Lake, also part of the park. I will be there from 28th of june to the 13th of july. I have a white and black starcraft with a 40 evinrude on it. I am at site 432,if you need some info just stop by. good luck Derek -
fished off brock road today, nothing doing. The wind was a killer and the water was murky. On the bright side the ice is a solid 6 inches and once it clears the fish will be there.

anyone built their own sled for ice fishing?
bow slayer replied to BFSC Kevin's topic in General Discussion
I built one, lasted one trip to nipissing. i used a pair of old cross country skis and mounted a box i made from scrap wood.,mounted the power auger on top. My problem was I made the box to high and the skis were not far enough apart. I made a hitch to hook it up to the back of my machine . everything worked great the first day,the box held everything seats, pails, food, talkle ,bait. the box was high enough to sit on while fishing.I also made a wind break with 2 pieces of pipe and a old piece of canvas that you could side in once you got to your spot. The second day on the way back in (maybe going a little fast ) I hit a rut in the snow and the box fliped on the side breaking one of the skis.It sucked trying to get back in with only one ski. anyways it worked great and was very cheap. I broke down and bough a ice jet sled from cabelas with the hitch and it has been great cost only a about 75 bucks. -
i will admit the fishing on restoule can be trying for a newbie to the lake. It took me a few trips there to have good sucess. The multi species is a huge plus. You can fish bass, pike in the mornings, lakers and bass during the day and walleye and musky in the evenings. There are several other lakes(stormy, clear,Barton) in the area that also offer great fishing. Stormy is accesable from the park and offer great fishing almost the entire shoreline being crown land.(no cottages or crowds)Also to get you started pop into martins camp and ask for Bing he will point you in the right direction. He also guides on the lakes in the area for a very resonable fee.

well over the years I have stayed at more than a few provincial parks in central ontario. But for the last 18 summers I have been going back to Restoule. The fishing is excellent for walleye, bass, musky, pike, lakers and whitefish. The park has access to 3 lakes directley and there are countless others in the area. The park itself is off the beaten path of highway 11 and i think that helps it from becoming over used. You will never see the crowds and activity of the bigger more popular parks and you can boat and fish all day with hardly seeing another boat. The scenery is beautiful as with any of the shield lakes. There are hiking trails, canoe routes, and lots of wadeable shoreline. my son caught a 5lb smallmouth right of the shore of our site last summer while wading. The musky in these lakes are huge last summer we tangled with 2 that were both over 40lbs. We had 4 dinners of walleye while there also and released a lot more than that. The village has everything you will need, groceries, beer store a marina with parts and service, and a legion that serves great chicken wings on friday nights.Lots of water to fish, boat and canoes rentals, bike rentals in the park, and a very quiet relaxing park. it has 2 sand beaches also and if you are lucky you can book one of the sites on the water that has its own private beach to sit in the sun and relax and pull your canoe or boat onto.. Trust me everyone i have steered to going there has been back ,some for nearly as long as me. P.S. I just booked my site 2 days ago, right on the water. Can't wait
