For those that are getting their stuff together, you may want to stock up on the 1lb propane bottles before the price really goes nuts,  CTC has a 3 pack for $20, limit of 2 per customer,  some guys in the US are reporting the price is up to $17 for a 2 pack.

Everyone should stop buying those stupid things and just get a 5 or 10lb tank. Things run much better and those little 1lb hazardous waste bombs are good for nothing.

  2. The bottom is painted already? Just prep it well, and clean it really good before paint. Wipe it all really good with acetone and a clean rag. The Prep is really the key. Interlux makes a good quality paint that's readily available in Canada. I painted my whole boat with exterior latex and it is holding up really well. I needed ultra flat paint though, so it was a little harder to find an actual marine grade paint that was ultra flat and available in canada.

Get a good self etching primer to hit the bare metal, or it will just peel off.

  3. I'd shoot for redstone/eagle area, but in january the ice can still be sketchy on some of those bigger lakes. Lots and lots of smaller lakes in that area, and if you have machines to get around, you could fish a handful of lakes each day if you wanted for specks/splake. Maple would be my choice for walleye.

Haliburton/percy lake can also be great for trout, and decent whities as well.

Thanks Doug, as always I truly appreciate your experience and input. My trailer is 6X10 so I am going to have to check out what my total width would be with tracks. My clearance on this unit with stock tires is 9.5" and it is 6 wheel  so I thought I might be ok on Simco since it is usually windblown for the most part. I really don't want to put tracks on it, might have been fine when I was younger but too hard for me to do by myself any more. I haden't initially planned on using it in the winter but the more I do with it, the more opportunities I seem to find that I can do.

95% of the time your argo would be perfect. The other 5%, you dont want to be out there anyways. Just pick your days based on conditions. I have 3 portable huts, your welcome to use anytime, and I will drill your holes.

We will get out this year as long as the ice comes! With, or without the argo.

So when you’re  trolling with iPilot is the electric pulling as well as the main or are you using it as a rudder only?  I don’t have iPilot on my 2007 Powerdrive V2. Sounds like a great feature. Neither do I have the anchor feature. Might have to spend the $3k to upgrade. That works out to a few dollars a fish 🤪. But just to repeat my original concern. If I troll with my Powerdrive down and off while trolling with the main, is the spinning prop going to do any damage? I only want to do this so I don’t have to take it out and in between spots.   Cheers.

I set my speed on the ipilot, and set my course so it steers itself, but my main engine is doing the work to push the boat. I set my minnkota power on 4 usually. The minnkota will kick in if the main is going too slow to help keep my speed steady....like going into waves or wind etc.

  6. Do you plan to use it icefishng Cliff? I haven't forgotten I owe you and your son a trip. I actually have 3 sleds now, but if you have the argo, we can go every week LOL.....I will wait up for you and show ya the spots bud!  I actually know a few spots where that argo would come in really handy LOL

Thanks all. Other than being coast Guard Approved is there any other difference? Does one keep you floating/alive longer?

Being smart and using common sense keeps you alive longer.

I've had several floater suits. 2 mustangs, 1 helly hanson. They are not comfortable or light or a pleasure to wear. You sweat, you get wet, and they weigh you down. I am no longer a fan. There is a ton of much lighter and warmer gear to wear on the ice, just stay off sketchy ice. Its simple.

I have a XXl Helly Hanson I haven't worn for likely 6 or 7 years. Its near mint condition. I can't stand wearing it after wearing much warmer, breathable, light gear.

  8. Yep, like the others have said, its about using the ipilot features as auto pilot to troll. I use mine 100% of the time if I'm trolling. Set the course and speed, and I'm totally hands free while the main just purrs along. I also have the digital troll control on my main engine, and that's sweet too.

If you had a row of little pigs, you could put $2.50 a week into into one and each year your sticker would be covered,  even much less for the driver licence every 5 years.  But people don't think ahead to save a couple schekels to be ready, only p and m and cry.  What happened to being adults or do you still rely on parents to tell you when to change your diapers.

How about SCREW the govt, just like thye SCREW us! Im not paying, and I will refuse to pay for stickers that were not required during a pandemic on my work truck that I didn't drive because I was forced to not work. I will go to court over it, and fight it tooth and nail, because its true, and a complete scandal!!! They can go to hell with out my money.

  10. Somebody would be taking a trip to the dentist if I witnessed that. I saw a similar thing happen at my local gas station over wearing a mask. The guy spit on a woman, I stepped in, and I don't think he will be coming to my local gas station again :). When the cops showed up, the gas station owner told the cops they'd never seen me before LOL....

  11. I'm not sure on those ones either, Cliff. There are tons of easy to ID mushrooms in the woods right now though. This week I have had shrimp of the woods, chicken of the woods, yellow foot chanterelles, and bears tooth. Some good eats!  I'm on the lookout for hen of the woods, but still haven't found one. Lots of puffballs right now too.

We have done all that we can do and have made a very deliberate decision to get on with our lives.  While here in your wonderful country we abide by the mask rules but we do go into town on a daily basis, visit with friends and eat in resturants 2-3 times per week. When we return to the states next month we will get the booster jab and if we end up staying longer we may cross back over to Watertown and get the booster.

With one exception all of our friends here are doing pretty much the same as us.  The one exception is a friends wife and she is absolutely paranoid with fear and it is driving her hubby crazy.  Her fear is not at all rational and it totally consumes her life.

I am honestly more concerned with some of my prior poor lifestyle choices (30 year smoker) than I am Rona.

Exactly. I am more afraid of having a car accident.

I spent the entire summer last year out at my cabin and only came into town every 2 weeks for supplies. Spent 6 weeks there this summer and finally started feeling a little better near the end of my vacation time out there. I still try and stay away from people even though I'm fully vaccinated. The Rona got into the NWT big time in Mid August. Unlucky for everyone it got into one of the communities that held a hand games tournament. It was attended by a lot of un-vaxed people and it went through a lot of the small communities like wild fire. Then of course they brought it into Yellowknife where it went through the homeless population. We went from a couple of hundred cases and no deaths to over a thousand and now 5 dead. 50% of the population in one community got sick at the same time. We are now pretty much locked down again because of the few that didn't get the shot. 🤬

You can't blame this on people not getting vaxxed, that's total bull and you know it. Whether they were vaxxed or not, someone brought it there. The vax doesn't stop you from getting the rona, and you stil spread it too. I know more sick people who are vaccinated than i do unvaxxed.  I'm not for or against it, just saying.....its not the un-vaxed that are spreading it around.

  14. I do a lot of running at night. I find the best thing is a hand held spot light. One that plugs into your main power, not a rechargable one, they always die when you need them most. I run with my bow light on, and I shine the spot light as needed to scan for anything in my way.  I use a bright spotlight, if you can't see me coming, your blind, or asleep.

I also agree that running with too many lights is blinding, especially if there is any fog, or mist coming off the water, its brutal. Can't see anything. Those nights I run with just the bow light, and use my spot light as little as I can.

I don't know why everyone assumed O'leary was guilty. That video tells all for me.
