    Hi guys,

I am in the market for a new nav card for my new boat/plotter.  In my old boat I had a Hummingbird Helix 5 Si GPS with the Lake Master chip and it worked well for my needs.  My new boat has the Lowrance HDS-7 Gen 2 and the Insight card.  The Insight card is not the greatest for the lakes I fish up north so I will be upgrading it.  I dominantly fish Ontario, Erie, St.Clair, Detroit River, and several smaller lakes in northern Ontario.

My choices are between the Navionics + card (Canada & Alaska) $149.00USD, or the Navionics Hotmaps Platinum (Canada) $199.00USD.  Both cards qualify for a $50USD rebate until Dec 31.

My question is...........is the Hotmaps Premium worth it?  The difference between the cards is:

    - Satellite overlay (not available in Ontario)

    - Relief shading - ?? Usable ??

    - Sonar chart relief - ?? usable ??

    - 3D view - useless feature IMHO

    - Panamera photo's - useless feature IMHO

Well, you identified the differences, only you can say whether those features are useful to you! The relief shading is really only currently available for the St. Lawrence River and the a bit into Lake Ontario. The Sonar Chart Relief gives you a different look at lake contours but are only available on the Great Lakes, Trent-Severn, Rideau waterways and a few lakes in NW Ontario. I don't use the 3D view or the panoramic photo's. The Navionics+ Regions card (Canada & Alaska) was just on sale at BPS, not sure if it still is! Honestly for most people the Navionics+ Regions card is plenty!!!!

    Sweet buy bud.

Cabelas had the striker suit on 50% off Friday at 6 am. The hard water one. I got a discounted price on the one I bought a couple of weeks ago,as it was marked down. Ya,I got me a striker suit a couple weeks ago. Picked up the Striker Ice .:Gonefishing:

That was a crazy good deal on the Striker Hardwater suit!

  3. The last few years, I have not had a chance to fish Lake Erie very often so this fall I decided to change that up. Made a total of 5 trips down to one of a truly world class Smallmouth bass fishery! The last one was just before the blow and we managed to win a small local tournament with 5 Smallies for a total of 28.98 lbs. We had some good days out there but never really caught the peak of the fall action, there is still a few days left in the season maybe we'll be able to get out one more time. Here are some beautiful Erie bronze to help us make it through a long winter!

  4. WOW, we were out there the day before but had seen the forecast coming! Sadly lots of damaging, private properties, the docks at Crystal Beach etc. Always awestruck by the power of Mother Nature, all I know is I'm glad that we were out the day before when all we had to deal with were 5-7 foot rollers!!

  5. My wife and I had to cancel our planned trip to Pompano Beach last April and don't see us getting down real soon. Largemouth Bass opportunities around Orlando are boundless and the inshore saltwater fishing can be spectacular! Lots of piers to fish off of too! Really surprised at the number of people who are flying down still?

Thank you for all of the great pictures Dave. We had kind of a damper down here with the COVID and such so I didn't get out as often as I wanted. We had a really good season down here with the Snakeheads and the Bass. The water temperatures have cooled down to a point where the Snakehead bite is over for the season but next year it should fire up again. As I have said before if you are near the Potomac River give me a shout and we can get after a few of the local species.

Really appreciate that offer again Art! I’m looking forward to when we can cross the border and experience the many fishing opportunities down there! Hopefully we’ll be able to take you up on that offer sooner rather than later! Stay safe & keep well!

jeez dave  you catch a lot of big ones lol

Howd the tournament season go this year. I saw you got a second there in that open. Any other good finishes mixed in there?

We've been lucky enough to get a few good ones here & there! It's been a fair tournament season, especially considering the fact that we didn't think that we would have one at all! We've won a couple of smaller events and had a fair number of top 10 finishes in larger events. Just focusing on a little fun fishing now!

  8. As the open water season draws to a close and I reflect on this past season, MAN was it crazy! Not really sure what the new normal will be but I just want to get back to some kind of normal! that being said, sorry that I've been MIA for a good part of the summer. That being said our lakes and waterways seem to be busier than ever before with many new anglers drawn to our sport during these COVID times! Hopefully these newcomers will take the time to understand what it takes to be a responsible anglers, understanding MNR rules & regs., respecting the properties of others, etc. We will try to address as many of these things in on-line content as the ice season approaches!

That being said, still managed to catch plenty of great fish! See below some fish porn from this past open water season! Will still get in a number of fun fishing outings before ice-up and looking forward to the up coming ice season! I hope that everyone has had a great summer and is staying safe & keeping well! It'll be ice fishing season in no time!

  9. Totally ridiculous and outrageous that a human being would act in this manner! If there is illegal fishing going on contact the MNR hotline but to endanger people's lives because you feel you own the water or whatever is an asinine move! Sadly he'll probably get a fine and that's all! If you drove a vehicle recklessly through a bunch of people just hanging out, you would probably face some jail time! Hope that he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law!

Unfortunately, this type of incident is becoming more common place! Sober sane people do not do such things!
