Yes, I do remember. We used to catch some monster Goldfish in that pond too. It seems it was a dumping ground for wayward pets !

My best friend, John MacKinnon, lived on Grenadier Heights. It looks like you're in the place that has the long driveway off Ellis. We lived further west on Durie, north of Morningside. Played hockey on the outdoor rink in Rennie Park. Such a great neighborhood to grow up in !

We used to fish for those monster goldfish in Catfish Pond as well! We've caught Carp, Mirror Carp, Bullheads, Largemouth, White Perch & Pumpkinseeds out of there! We love riding our bikes down there to fish!

Yea she's the one you think she is, I told her I would to call the conservation POPO to sort this out.

I'm actually surprised that the pike have not taken over the Pond, as they generally do! They;'ve been in there for over 35 years, over the years I've caught many interesting species in there including a Walleye and Threadfin Shad!

That doesn't look like any fun at all Dave. :D
But I will state (enviously) there's a few of my bucket list fish in your post and no, Gaspereau is not of them.  ;)

    Cheers :)

The Gaspereau was cool as we've never seen them that big! Think of Lake Ontario Alwifes...

Our property ends at the watershed (blue star), with other private properties around on each side of me, the park grounds are on the south and east opposite side (in green). Permitted fishing areas of the park (in yellow) : here's a map for reference. It being a watershed I would assume it's crown land with municipal fishing limitations posted only on the east side.  Also it's not navigatable since there's also no watercraft allowed on the pond and there's no access to a lake or other river, creek etc.

I've contacted Toronto Region Conservation for a definite answer if they reply.  I don't see how park volunteers have a right to scream and harrass me while on my own property.

I grew up fishing Granadier Pond and know it intimately! From your property there you can do whatever you'd like! There are several people there who believe that Grenadier Pond is their private property, which it is not, I can also guess who that Karen is! That section got closed to fishing based on them complaining about anglers disturbing nesting waterfowl there but it is only on the park grounds! Tell her to please call the conservation officers! How's the Crappie fishing these days?

Awesome as always David. Man, you sure know how to make a guy envious.  In my books you did very well in the tournaments. That's a lot of competition to go up against. Very nice looking chain pickerel. I used to catch them when ice fishing for perch.

Thanks Barry! It's just that my expectations are always high! LOL As for the Chain Pickerel, disappointing because it happened during a Smallmouth tournamnet but also exciting as I don't catch a lot of those! Still took time to snap a quick pic before release!

Very nice fish ! A Chain Pickerel is one of my bucket list fish. Yeah, the Striper fishery is amazing out there. We did a summer road trip out to NB a few years back and fished for them in the ocean...they fight like super-size Largemouth...gill rattling head shakes on the surface !

It's a quicker drive than going to say Thunder Bay...but the food is so much better...Lobster, Oysters, Mussels, Clams..

I know the Smallmouth for the most part are considered an invasive species out there (competing with their precious Atlantic Salmon), so I assume there is no season and those were pre-spawn  ?

Food is almost as good as the fishing! Yeah, the Atlantic Salmon folks are not big fans of Smallies but they gaining in popularity, they more concerned about Largemouth & Crappies coming Maine nowadays! The Smallies were prespawn and the seasons are very interested down here. I do believe that no tournaments are allowed during the spawn for a couple of weeks but you can still fish for them.

  7. Just got back from a trip down east to New Brunswick! Went down to Nackawic for the Destination Nackawic Smallmouth Open and had a blast on the St. John River! Huge variety of fish species in this body of water, Smallmouth, Yellow Perch, White Perch, Gaspereau, Chain Pickerel, Muskie & Pumpkinseeds were some that we saw or caught! We caught over 400 Smallmouth Bass in a day & a hold of practice & 2 tournament days! We had an okay result finishing 24th out of 77 teams!

Then, it was off to the Miramichi River& the Miramichi Striper Cup! Fishing was tough because of the early spring & high water temps but we still caught lots of fish in practice! Fishing was even tougher on tournament days due to funky weather & strong winds! We managed a 27th place finish out of 237 teams! Beautiful part of our country with some amazing fishing! 9. Oh there are so many TJ! Big Bass Mega Bass on Big Rideau is definitely one! Quinte Bass Champs on opening weekend is another! The Nosbonsing Pike, North GTA Pike on Balsam Lake, Muskoka Pike & all of the Top 50 Pike events are great pike events. Down on Lake St. Clair, there's the Mitchell's Bay Open and this year there's the NEW VEXUS Open which should be great! The Mark McKeown Memorial Perch Tournamnet on lake Simcoe is a lot of fun! I can send you a whole list TJ, don't make me choose I love them all! 😄😄😄

Fishing the shallow flats can be very exciting, As I am sure you well know, there's quite a variety, from bone fish to barracuda. All awesome scrappers.

Oh, my friends down there remind me of that all the time! Would mind some Tarpon action at some point too! Like I say "So many fish, so little time!"

Was in Largo Fla last week and stopped by some old shoreline spots to check in with locals and all were the same , everything but tiny trout completely shut down. Wish I was still down there too. Miss the grouper sandwiches.

Next time, I want to try some more saltwater fishing as well! So many fish so little time! 😁😁😁

Im running the website for the tourney... there's gonna be alot more sponsor's shortly. and our Airbnb is open that weekend.. lol

They will have a live scoresheet that day as well.  still room in the first heat.  I am VERY confident they will get their 200 teams.

Oh, I'm sure that they will! Huge event, I'll check the dates and see if I can make it!

  14. Managed to sneak away for a little bass fishing down in Florida! Anyone who been down there knows how inconsistent the weather has been all winter! We had morning where it was 6-7 degrees C and we had days where the wind was gusting to 70-80 kph! Needless to say Florida bass don’t like those conditions but we made the best of it and managed some good fish! Got to fish with a bunch of great dudes down there as well! Enjoy the pics!
