  1. Thank you for your enquiry. Under the Public Lands Act;

authorized by the Minister, no person shall deposit or cause to be

deposited any material, substance or thing,

I guess this would also make it illegal to mark a spot on the ice where you have moved a hut from.

  2. Depends on what your needs are. I keep 3 on my Nitro and depending on the wind and how slow I want presentation I will use all three if needed. Does the Cabela brand come with a storage pouch? I noticed that these ones are the same price as the XL Minn Kota at its regular price and I think the Minn Kota comes with a storage pouch. The pouch is handy so the straps don't get in the way as they tend to unravel in my storage comparments.

My personal recomendation for your boat is buy two of the XL size. You may think it's a bit of overkill but that should prepare you for just about anything.

  3. Seeing that the Canadian dollar is strong compared to US this might be the year to take the little ones to Disney. There are packages available the may work in your budget. Seeing that they are 2 and 4 school is not a huge issue so you could sneak away a week or two before school is out and take advantage of the off-season pricing.

  4. Quick question, does anyone know if ice fishing is allowed on Catchacoma Lake (Near Buckhorn). I was thinking of heading up to a friends cottage in a few weeks and thought about trying for the Lake Trout, providing it's open of course.

    Cheers,

    Shaun

No ice fishing - Fish sanctuary, closed from December 1 to the Friday before the third Saturday in May.

  5. cameras what cameras

I got them after I had my ATV stolen and I sleep better at night

I caught two guys walk up my driveway and started pointing at my boat then one of them saw the IR lights, I could even make out what word one

of them said before they ran away..........I am pretty sure it saved something from being stolen.....

cops think I have a grow op

Two days before Christmas someone walked all the way up my driveway, rifled through my truck, took some things. Then walked over to the barn and looked inside. Walked over to one of my other outbuildings and the motion sensor light came on and spooked him. Pretty ballsy since my son and I were home and my laneway is around 800 feet back from the road. Never locked anything up until now.

  6. Too stuck up to stop in for a drink SSL ?? dunno.gifbiggrin.gif

I wouldn't say "stuck up", just didn't think it was right to just stop in unknown and unnanounced. We stay on island 167 and have for the last 6 years. This past year I purchased my own place on the Pickeral River and don't know how long we will be in Temagami. The kids go to Canadian Adventure Camp and we love the area, and loved going to the Chinese restaurant in town.

We were invited to Restaurant X for dinner with 8 other couples. We were very excited to go because of our previous experience with the restaurant. My husband and I had been there before and had very good food and service. Unfortunately, food and service change when management changes. We sat down for our reservations at approximately 7:50 and ordered shortly afterwards. Appetizers and salads came out slowly. However, our dinners did not even begin to be served until around 9:50. One of our guests had to leave because of family obligations and took his dinner home in a to-go container. Dinners slowly trickled in at about 9:50 one at a time. We could not all eat together because not everyone had a dinner. Six guests had order fillets but did not get them prepared as ordered. They were very tough and not cooked to their request. Two of our guests never got their dinners! It was only after about 15 minutes after the last dinner was brought out (approximately 10:30) that the server came back to ask about the dinners. This is when they were told that the final 2 dinners were never served. Unfortunately, the owner/management never came out to make amends. He stayed in the back and let his servers deal with the unsatisfied customers. He never came out to apologize or offer any complimentary drinks, appetizers to hold over the guests who did not get their dinner, or any money off the bill. Two dinners and one dinner that was sent back, were taken off the bill only after one of our guests requested it.

Obviously, the kitchen and staff were not prepared. Several times during the evening the servers stated that they were going through a transition. Transitions happen but bad customer service is unacceptable. As much as I enjoyed my visit to Restaurant X for our couple dinner, I would never go back because of the change in owners or management which made this experience very disappointing.

The screnario above describes a dinner with 16 people. I have 2 kids in hockey and what that means is travel tournaments. We learned early that it is not wise to go out as a large group. Most places are not prepared to handle a large group along with other patrons in the restaurant. Buffet restaurants excluded. Now we just divide and conquer.

Cliff mentioned Chinese restaurants, once again I was disappointed by a Chinese restaurant. Not from the food. But the fact they were not open. We spend almost three weeks in Temagami each summer. My kids go to a camp on the lake and my wife and I rent a cottage down the northeast arm just before the Skull Narrows. Two of the last three years the Chinese restaurant has not been open in the summer. We enjoyed boating there and having lunch....hopefully this year.

  8. wouldn't something like this have SERIOUS impact on the lake from an environmental POV??? I read once that a quart of oil in the water can produce oil slicks over a square kilometer area..

the owners should be on the hook for some fort of environmental cleanup or something along those lines...

Years ago some of the 2 strokes that burned a 40:1 ratio used to leave a trail of oil when you left the dock. Some still do it to this day. Yes the fluids in the truck are toxic (battery acid, coolant, hydraulic fluid (tranny and power steering), brake fluid, oil, etc.) but with the lake the size of Nipissing the impact would be minimal. Consider the fact that where the truck went through is where the sewage treatment outflow is. Who knows what comes out of there during periods of heavy rains or thaw.

  9. Hey Smoke. That gets her fired but as soon as the fuels burnt she quits again. Tried it 4 times, fired ea time just wont run. Must be a fuel problem. Dang its only been used 5 times

Well you've ruled out spark as the concern and now you know it's fuel. Most likely a float or stuck needle issue. Careful tapping these little carbs with a hammer. You need to tap it right where the fuel inlet is and sometimes it can be tough on the little ones, a small drift would work better. Hammers were great on GM carbs though when they starved for fuel.

  10. Big East is a "Put and Take" 12 month less one day splake fishery. There is also bass in the open water season. You can walk to some of the fishing areas but typically we take the sleds and head off to the quieter part of the lake. Fish the splake like specs and you will have success.

  11. I have experience with both but have not used a roller trailer in years. Bunks all the way. I currently run a Nitro and can launch or load by myself and do so quite a bit. Loading is way easier with a bunk, get the bunks only half submerged and drive the boat all the way up the winch handle, two cranks and she is loaded. Having a hydraulic jack plate helps but I had an Astro before this and it was also a breeze to load and unload with no jack plate. Even if I am off line due to wind or the ramp, I can get the boat close enough to the winch, secure it, then back down a bit to straighten it out without having to unlatch the boat from the winch strap.

  12. I listened to his show a bit and really think his attack on Canadians is a stretch here. Here's an analogy that may put it in a better perspective for our radio friend and the people his call screeners put on the air (it's unlikely they'll read it though). The World Juniors Hockey Championship put on by the IIHF is a bunch of college aged, world class athletes competing for a championship. No different then what is going on south of the border right now with all the college football bowl games. I watched the Ohio State/Arkansas game last night and I have to say what I saw going on in the stands was pretty much the same as described by the callers into this Buffalo radio station. It's fans supporting their team and enjoying the event. As a result some things do happen, like loud cheering and partying, which leads to other behaviour. As a result there is some behaviour demonstrated that most people would not do if it were not for the emotion of the game.

  13. Billy Bob - That place looks great! - and the prices are really good aswell - how's the (ice) fishing?

    Tracker (Don)

I stayed with the Brooks in 2005, there was a 12 of us in the group. Some were snowmobiling and some were fishing. They are very good people and the huts were on fish. We caught walleye and lake trout while we were there. Not huge numbers but quality fish and enough to keep us busy for 2 days. Lots of safe ice to move around and Chris knows the lake and will help you out.
