  1. pikeslayer, I too wear the shalwar kameez from time to time due to my background being from India. it's definitely good for protection from the sun and good ventilation. Probably the reason why they wear them in those countries in that kind of heat. Undoubtedly very comfortable and you can do splits with the shalwars on lol.

I think the key is to have as much cotton to keep cool and lighter color clothes.

My wife has also started to push me at being more careful out in the sun and I have started using sunscreen this year. I will also be trying long sleeve shirts which will be a first for me -_-

If you need a couple of more pairs of shalwar kameez, shoot me a pm. I have a few new ones you can have :).

    Hey Huzz,

Thx for the offer but my needs are for one only as it is intended for time on the water. As it is 100% cotton, it hang dries from the laundry in about 30 minutes.

BTW, white & light colour pastels have the lowest UPF ratings. Darker colours are much better.

  2.

for one that size, around $22-$24, we're at $44/KG for a boneless prime rib steak, and $30 /kg for a bone in prime rib steak. for comparison, sobeys is at $41.87 for a bone in prime rib steak that they call Canada AAA, so most likely from out west somewhere.

we are not open on Sundays, Sundays and Mondays are our weekend, we're open Tuesday-Saturday, 9-6 Tues-Thurs, 9-8 on Fri, and 9-5 on Saturday.

Thx. I'll see if I can con Big Cliff to pick up an order for me.

  3. Surprised you couldn't get along with the UPF rated shirts? Are they synthetic or cotton? Most synthetic materials are more breathable than cotton.

I cycle between 5 Simms UPF rated shirts and 3 pairs of SIMMS long UPF pants. Like you I've had my bout with cancer. In my case it wasn't skin cancer, but the chemo drugs left my skin pretty sensitive to UV light. I also can't scratch myself hard or it's permanent.

    From top to bottom:

    Baseball cap

    Polarized sunglasses

    UV Buff

    Simms Guide shirt (UPF 50)

    Simms zip pants (UPF 50)

    Wigwam liner socks

    Columbia water shoes

Simms guide sun gloves (UPF 50)

UPF 30-60 sunscreen on whatever skin is exposed (UPF depends on whatever is on sale at the store)

With that setup, I can wade in the water and I'm dry within 15mins if it's sunny out.

Just checked the tags. 90% nylon or polyester. I can definitely bear them early spring/late fall but they definitely fail the summer heat :( I got to say that the new ensemble is pretty much the next best thing to being bare ass naked & the wife is pleased that I've found clothing to wear in the back yard ;)

  4. been there - got the scars, lost half a cheek to it, got two wicked scars on each arm and appointment for another "inspection"in a couple weeks. I'm convinced I lost the cheek from years of driving as a living,

These days, its UV protection 50+ as soon as I hit the outdoors.

We have an upscale menswear store here in Mississauga Rick. I figure we size about the same (XL) & I could pick one up for you if you wish.
  5. So earlier this year, I had a brush with skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma, not the worst, but still unnerving. Got it carved out & follow ups were all good. However, the specialist did say that I was at high risk due to my recreational lifestyle. Lots of golf, fishing & time on the water. Like lots of us here.

    Made a promise to my wife that I would follow through with preventative measures and I have (for the most part) kept my word. Tons of sunscreen (not the best long term option), wide brimmed head covering, protective clothing and I no longer spend 6+ hours on the water or in the sun on a given day. My SIL bought me a variety of UPF rated shirts for Father's Day this year & I can't stand them. Hot, sticky (despite the venting) & ultimately stinky & they always end up unbuttoned & rolled up sleeves;

So the subject came up in a casual discussion the other day with my good Pakistani friend (Big Cliff). Never heard about skin cancer or sunscreen before he arrived in Canada??

    So long story short, after considerable research I decided that this option would be a better solution both UPF & comfort;

    image_zpsxzvcsaut.jpeg

It is known as a Shalwar Kameez. 100% cotton with a dense but light thread weight, lots of room for air flow and extremely comfortable & cool (especially when commando;) ). I estimate that given the thread density & the darker colour, it's on the higher side for cotton with a UPF rating of 60+. I can up that if I wish by using RIT UV dye, but I've read some questionable data on that stuff. Still need the sunscreen for face, hands & feet as well as my Aussie Akubra, but I believe I'm better protected from the sun than I ever have been.

Now just need to check the club dress code ;)

  6. I found a place called The Trading Post on Simco St. just North of Port Perry. All of their beef is aged a minimum of 28 days and boy is it good! Prices are as good or better than local butcher shops (Rib Eyes typically $11.99 a lb).

They will vacuum pack roasts, steaks, they even vacuum pack my bacon for me in 1/2 lb packs all at no extra charge. I have been making my own bacon for about two years now, theirs is just as good or better and @ $3.99 a lb and vacpacked 7 slices to the package, well I can't even buy the pork bellies for that price.

I have even been buying my salmon from them when I want to make smoked salmon. Fresh Atlantic salmon typically $6.99/lb. Cure, smoke, eat and it's as good as or better than the $19.00/ little package that you buy in the stores.

Ok got to try those next trip. Got some special friends coming for a visit July 23, Steaks were already on the menu now I'm going to add some of those cinnamon buns to go with breakfast the next morning! Thanks!

Can't wait for dinner ;) See ya soon :)

  7. I will contribute (based on experience) and recommend:

    1. Ignore everything you've read.

    2. Engage a reputable & accredited paralegal (there not just for traffic tix ;) ) that specializes in municipal law.

    3. Be prepared to pay $250-300 for a 90 min initial consult. PL will give you insight & options during the initial consult.

& lawyers are for Court should that be an outcome.

  8. I've had this theory/plan in mind for a few years now. I think that MTO should close all entries & exits, north & south, to the 400 from Innisfil Rd to the south, north to the 400/11 split from Thursday 8:00 pm through Sunday 8:00 pm. This would make it much more convenient via improved traffic flow to those of us travelling north to Seguin with little or no inconvenience to the fine residents of Barrie???

  9. Brian (et al),

I just finished bringing my HDS 7 Gen 1 back to life (Spincast's fault ;) ) with a full operating system and background files restore.

I highly recommend watching this series of YouTube videos featuring Lowrance set up. It is a bit dated and features earlier generation Lowrance's but the basics are the same with today's technology. Jocelyn from Angler's Outfitters is considered the the Lowrance Guru. Lots to learn here.

  10. Hilton on Mississauga road

Mostly looking for fairly standard food as we are a group of 5 and want to please everyone... No tai or sushi or anything like that

Like good bars with good food

    Your right in my backyard Mike. I would only recommend;

Gabriels Restaurant $$$$- walking distance from the hotel at the corner of Erin Mills Parkway & Mississauga Road (& not as formal as their website appears). If you do go there, tell them I referred you.

The following are in Streetsville, a 3 minute drive:

    Mondello Ristarante $$$

    Goodfellas Pizza $$$

    Chuculainns Irish Pub $$

Burrito Boyz $$ take away only

Buffalo Wild Wings $$$ a five minute drive to Meadowvale.

If your up for a get together, shoot me a pm.

  11. Put cat in bag, call animal control and report description and have them pick up the cat. If the owner is concerned about the cats whearbouts they will likely call animal control, if its a stray then thats the end of the story.

So, after a couple of drams of highland with my neighbour lawyer & with due consideration of the fact I would potentially admit that I ran over said owners beloved pet on my personal property, we decided on Porkpie's suggestion with a twist. I relocated the cat curbside on the nearest municipal intersection & called Animal Control. They filed a dispatch (non priority) for animal pick up. As PP suggested, if an owner filed a missing animal report, 'closure' will happen. If not, likely a feral/stray?

  12. "try to be a better man" and find the owners, tell the truth, give them closure

No doubt Chris. Challenge is, I know of three common cats from my immediate neighbours & it's none of theirs for sure. It's now dark & I don't think unknown neighbours would appreciate a random knock on the door. Further, I live right on credit valley & we get our fair share of wildlife scavengers. Can't leave the cat exposed??

  13. About 40 minutes ago, I accidentally ran over a cat while backing up my driveway to the rear parking pad (big blind spot between back of the house, parking & garage).

So, here's my dilemma & would be appreciative of some feedback or votes. After careful thought, I think I have it down to the following options (BTW, not a big cat, maybe 6/7 lbs tops)

a: bury it 3 ft under with the other 'unfortunates'?

    b: attempt to locate owner??

I'm definitely leaning to plan a.

  14. welll,,,,, ya know... the thought of stretching out here,,,, one eye on the rigger, coffee cup resting on the seat next to me....of course you're the Captain so you would have to be at the helm..... I mean come on... the sylvan's nice, but this is CLASS.. :whistling:
