  1. Sounds like a lot of $$! My house is 2200 square '. Heat is forced air gas (Carrier furnace & A/C), dryer, hot water tank is gas. Gas is 121.00 per month, electric bill is $125.00 average. Only 2 older people in the house (oops forgot the dog), & we are rather miserly with the use of lights etc.

  2. Thanx for the stories folks. Definitely an eye opener hearing of personal experiences from your family members. My father was in WW2 as a teen. He was an electrician stationed in Shilo Manitoba maintaining spotlights for the incoming planes. Thank goodness he didn't have to endure the suffering you folks have written about.

  3. I usually target walleye. A few years back I was on Pigeon jigging for walleye with a dew worm (night crawlers for our US friends). A fellow fisherman jigging just a short distance away, yells out "a big musky just swam past my boat". I replied "Yah my luck I'll hook into him with this light rod, 8 lb line & no steel leader"! Guess what! I did hook him! Wow! What a rush! I eventually got him near my boat, the thing was huge! My small landing net was no match for this brute. So the other fisherman moves his boat closer to mine & nets the fish for me. Strange story, but true. We didn't measure him - wanted to get him back into the water quickly.

  4. Hey Mike (and other posters). Google Dokis Reserve, If memory serves me correctly there is a tab at the top to read the history of Dokis. Most surnames are either Dokis or Restoule. There is also a list of the people who were band councillors from the beginning up to present times. 90% of them are either a Dokis or Restoule. A very interesting fact in Dokis history explains how the chief sold timber rights to the Canadian Government in 1920 for $1.1 million. The chief at the time shared the interest on that money to the rest of the band members.

  5. In past years I had been working on Remembrance Day. So I observed a minute of silence at my work area. This year I'm laid off. I will be attending our local Legion for their Remembrance Day ceremony. As far as people who don't know the meaning of the poppy - Disgusts me!

  6. No Mike I didn't do very well. A cold front moved in the day I arrived. You & your family definitely caught more walleye than I did. For the other posters you may want to read the history of Dokis, how they originally settled on a point on Nipissing then move their families to present day Dokis. Norman Dokis is a very interesting person. He teaches native studies to the university students attending Nipissing University right from his waterfront lodge, which is a 2 km boat in only facility. Scenery is awesome such as you & your family witnessed.

  7. I love this approach! As stated above - it should be instituted on all tribs. I also agree the fines will offset the cost of extra policing. Along with the signs stating the regs & fines that are in place they should include a white board. On that board the officer from the night shift can report

IN THE PAST 24 HOURS CONSERVATION OFFICERS LEVIED FINES OF $4,500.00!

    $1,200.00 - 4 anglers without a current fishing license

$2,300.00 - 2 anglers in possession of fish over the legal possession limit

$1,000.00 - 1 angler disposing of fish that is fit for consumption

I know - I got tooo much time on my hands!

  8. I have a "muff" that straps to my waist similar to ones you see the football players use. Inside the muff I have 2 metal Zippo hand warmers that you fill with zippo fluid, light them, & they produce heat for 6 hours. Awesome! I purchased the muff from BPS, the metal hand warmers from Grimsby Tackle.

  9. An experienced tree climber will scale your tree, in a harness/cradle fashioned of rope he sits in, with spurs & climb & cut your tree into small pieces, then lower them on a rope. A friend of mine took down a huge soft maple for my neighbour sitting in a rope type cradle. The tree was on the ground in 16" pieces in about 5 hours! Amazing to see him work. Unfortunately his age & health will not allow him to do this kind of work.
