  1. Thanx for the replies guys. I also have the iPhone version of Navionics but it lacks the detail I desire. I was at BPS yesterday looking at the Humminbird Matrix with the Navionics + card. As mentioned in my first post I already have a Humminbird 798 HD ci which I use for sonar, side scan & down image & GPS. My intention is to use the Matrix for chart plotter only. If I have a need for a bow mount transducer in the future I'll have that capability in the Matrix. Grimsby Tackle $510.00 for the Matrix & includes the Navionics + card. 1/2 the cost of my 798. That sounds reasonable to me.

  2. I have a BPS light weight suit for warmer weather. It's awesome! It rolls up into a very small package no bigger than a cigarette carton. 1 for the jacket, 1 for the pants. I don't know the price tag - it was a gift.

  3. Big, fat juicy dew worms is my favourite bait on a harness. A nice long presentation works best for me. Last Monday on Erie I couldn't get the walleye to commit to my live bait. So, I hooked on a 5" Gulp Alive leech. 5 minutes later - wham! - a nice 6.4 lber. The only fish of the day!

  4. I'm searching options to either add a chart plotter to my boat or download Navionics to my Ipad. I've been told I can download Navionics to my ipad that has greater detail than the app on my iPhone. Cost is $70.00. 1 or 2 problems I see is I would now need a holder to mount my ipad, also keep it safe from the elements (zip lock bag?). Do Ipads float?? LOL! Also the ipad is going to turn off & I'd have to restart it continually (this will be annoying).

In my search I found a Humminbird Helix for $510.00 which has Navionics chip included. Navionics gold card is $300.00 at BPS, $260.00 at Grimsby Tackle. So I get the Helix for $250.00 Sounds like a good deal.

I'm favouring the Helix along side my Humminbird 798 HD ci. I find the 798 on split screen is too small.

All comments & recommendations are greatly appreciated.

PS - I'm an older angler. Suggestions from the younger tech savvy fisher people would be awesome. Thanx

  5. Smaller lakes I like trolling small harnesses. I usually do well. Crank baits I love hot n tots - any color. Last year I started using Live Target smelt jointed 4 1/2" silver with a hint of blue. Landed some nice eyes on Erie. I'm wanting to try the live target on Pidgeon.

  6. Good advice here Dangler. I have the 3 prong male Minnkota plug on my troller. I also mounted the 3 prong female plug to the underside of the small deck which the troller is mounted to. I like the "push in & twist" feature on the plug. I would suggest this method. Works for me!

  7. I purchased the vertical plastic rod holders (4 rod capacity) from Ramakos in Sudbury. I troll a lot with my 14' Lund, so I mounted it on the vertical face of the bench seat beside the operators seat. It's out of my way while fishing & easy access when choosing another rod.

  8. Awesome to see your report! You must be very proud of your father playing along side such greats as Bob McCready, Gaylord Powless. A high school friend of mine (John Mouradian) also played lacrosse in that era. He played with the Buffalo Bandits, played & also coached the Toronto Rock. Last news I heard of Johnny was he was in Phoenix as part owner, general manager. Do you know of his whereabouts?
