  1. I've been pondering this question for a long time. I wear an HJC floater suit while on the ice. It is not classified as a survival suit. My understanding is a survival suit will only allow a certain amount of water to enter. That water is warmed by your body heat, which will allow you more time for an escape from the frigid water. So my question - is a regular floater suit not going to perform in a similar manner? Let's assume both suits are zipped up, velcro cuffs are snug, leg bottoms are also snugged up tight. My floater also has a "skirt" inside the jacket at the waist, which when properly zipped up to the neck forms a snug seal around my waist. This particular suit also has large flaps which cover the jacket zipper & the leg zippers, as well as interior elastic cuffs at the ankle area. Comments please!

  2. Hey Mr. B Thanx for your info. I am considering a cordless set up. I presently own a Fin Bore 111 ( roman numerals) 8". Also a Jiffy gas 2 hp, 9" stealth blade. I have a dewalt 20 volt cordless drill & the matching impact driver. Awesome for carpentry work. Would my Dewalt be powerful enough to auger some holes? Model # DCD 780 1/2" chuck with 2 lithium Ion batteries. The impact driver is model #DCF 885 just noticed it's only 1/4" chuck?? It's OK, it will drive 3" screws all day long. I don't mind spending the $$ on the new Milwaukee you are recommending, I'm presently performing a renovation in my basement & an extra drill will be beneficial rather than changing screw bits from the green Robertson to the red Robertson, just change out the drill!! You can never have too many tools. Thanx for your comments. What is the price of the Milwaukee?

  3. This is truly a sad story. Most of us agree, Peter should have dialled 911. Now we have a deceased person & another in custody with serious charges. To kill a person over a dam truck! (a similar statement made by Tim Bosma's widow). I don't agree! To go outside to investigate, then fire a shot in the air would have been the right thing to do. It would also avoid a whole a mess such as what we have now.

  4. Yup I received an email twice now, stating they owe me a refund. The first time I mistakenly clicked on the link to find the next page to look very similar to a page from a Service Canada site, complete with authentic looking logos. The scammers are very crafty. Beware! The statement that tipped me off was when they asked for information such as an account number & my address. CRA already has that info.

  5. I was on the ice Tuesday & Wednesday at Port Bolster. Tuesday in 22 fow there was 10" of ice, top 3" was soft white ice. 1" of water on top. Wednesday Casey's moved us out to 32 fow, 11" of ice again top 3" was soft. 1.5" of water on top. When we departed to shore at 2:30 it was 15 degrees. Taj was outside wearing a T shirt! I am NOT telling any one it is safe to be out there! My opinion & my opinion only- is with the colder temps at night -10 & -11 Saturday & Sunday the ice will firm up once again in that area (P. Bolster). I appreciate you guys advising others. Sad year!

  6. fisherman 7 - It's a 20 hp. My boat has a full floor, electric bow mount, 2 batteries & regular load of fishing gear. Goes 23 mph with just me in the boat. I had an older 30 hp Suzuki that was crazy fast at 29 mph. A little too fast for me. Good luck in your search. You won't be disappointed with a Lund.

  7. Too bad for ice conditions. I feel sorry for guys like Mitch & other outfitters. I'm off this winter & just getting on the ice for the first time today with an operator on Simcoe. Bring on the jumbos! Even the forecast for the upcoming week is not that cold.

  8. You wanna do both! I had a thought a little while ago. Buy an enclosed cargo trailer big enough for your boat. Modify the trailer to include sleeping quarters (fold down bunks), a portable Coleman cook stove, a winch at the front of said trailer (inside) to haul your boat up & inside the trailer. Now you are just towing 1 trailer. I have a 14' Lund so it's feasible. When you are at your destination, park on a slightly sloped grade. Release the winch to allow the boat & trailer to roll out. Uncouple the cargo trailer, hook up the boat trailer to your truck, launch it. I thought of this set up due to I fish smaller remote lakes north of Sudbury. I have seen the odd bear in my travels & sleeping in a tent is scary sometimes.

  9. Manitou - 15 Grand with the tracks, 2 up seat & other options I see in the photo. Jump on it! The bare bike is $11,500.00 in Niagara, tracks are around $3500.00. What's the cost of a bare bones 700 Grizz in your area?
